Freya - My aim was to portray a barbarian maiden with femininity and cultural background, avoiding the archtypical hooligan in loincloth. --- First drawn with pencil on paper, then scanned and painted in Photoshop, using fairly traditional methods (dab, smudge), as I don't like using photos or texture-images in my paintings. --- This is my first painting based on NWN. More may come, but probably experimenting with various styles and degrees of finish.

Great portrait, both technically and in a character sense. No one, however, said who she *really* is- Rachel from the Animorphs. She'd definitely be wearing a frilly shirt, pink ribbons, and a huge axe. Just sayin'.

I saw this around before and DLed it for my game. It is wonderful work and I am glad to see more female portraits for the not-so-popular classes.

Breath-taking!
I do agree that her arms look a little too small to swing the axe with authority, but maybe that's a Belt of Storm Giant Strength that she's wearing...
Hope you'll favor us with more work like this.

Perfect!
This portrait is certainly one of the best I have ever seen, and definitely - best on this site.
I really, really want to see portraits of such quality in newly released games. Your art is inspiring me.
Thank you for the great artwork.

as an artist, but wholly a non-computer artist, i'm wondering how people create images like yours on a computer.
did you take a class? is there a specific program that people use? is there a specific process or many on this program that you use to get such an image? i've seen other computer images similar to this and am always impressed by the colors and tones and textures. how would one learn to do this kind of art?

Kim,
Thank you for creating an image that portrays strength and endurance while maintaining a sense of femininity. While I understand that sex sells, the fantasy market needs more of your type of work.
You probably already know, but since I am hoping that you will continue to contribute, I would like to mention a few items about the work:
On a hill-line that's backlit the shadows should be deeper at the foot of the hill, and lighter away from the foot. So the hills on the right half of the picture should be darker, and lighter on the left side of the picture.
You can use a pool of water or snow (a lake or snowfield) on the left hand of the picture if you want a logical reason why she is face-lit and backlit at the same time.
Excellent detail work on the axe and knotted belt. I would only suggest adding some sweat stains to the leather grip of the axe. Having used a similar axe for cutting wood in my day, I know that part is going to get stained with water, blood, sweat and pitch.
The tattoo is too shiny and clearly delineated, perhaps using a darker hue of blue or smudge the lines a bit.
The frilled blouse and pink ribbons are outstanding additions. It gives the impression that while she's strong of body and mind, that she isn't giving up being a woman.
It's hard to get the right balance when adding highlights, but the clothes are a bit too "shiny". The vest and the greave might be waxed leather (and thus shinier), but the pants should not be.
The overall composition is very good. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
