'Colloquially known as 'mind flayers,' illithids universally elicit images of horror and fear in the minds of surface dwellers and underworlders alike. Illithids shock and repulse other races due mostly to their practice of cephalophagy, otherwise called brain-eating. This abominable habit has such power to appall that the saying, 'The 'flayer hasn't eaten yet!' was coined centuries ago to convey hope in the face of near-impossible situations.' -Illithiad by Bruce R. Cordell Ok I have updated the model's animation. This version should work far better. Thanks a lot for your input and your help, I greatly apreciate it and you can bet that you'll see much more work from me soon. So grab yourself a brain and enjoy the show!
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 15 that made this score of 8.86 then rounded to 9.

Yes, you can use this as a player character :)
Download Leto and use it to change your character's appearance and abilities to the mind flayer's.
I had completely missed this version. Downloading now :D

I guess there is no way to use this model as a character? I
want to be a illithid! :)

Guys you can all edit the hack pak using the NWNviewer.
then you can remove anything you don't need and combine the
illithid with any existing Hak Pack by editing the
appearence file and changing the illithid's number to match.

I saw somewhere that you can combine haks, something to do
with 2da etc......can someone explain that to me...I would
like to use the beholder, the Illithid and maralith haks
but how do i go about it. If its even possible at all.
any help would be appreciated.

Hey DAN
NIce work but did I understand correctly that you can have
a beholder hak and your hak in the same mod? Is it really
only Hak per mod? I hope thats not the case but then maybe
that would explain why my games been acting crazy latley.
thanks

Rats, I'm trying to add this to a small collection of other
hak files I want to use in my mod but for some reason, when
I try to set the appearance of the Illithid in the creature
editor I get "The model for the specified apperance was not
available" error. Which files do I need to add to a hak
file to get the illithid appearance? And what are the
bugbear .dds & .tga files for?

Well that's why I made this file as well as my hak pack.
Just open the hak pack you're using and add the files here
to it. now you should be able to use the creature.

What I would like to know and I probably have missed a
tutorial someplace is now that I have this Illithid model
how do I put it in my mod? This is the same problem I have
with alot of creatures is I already use a
tileset .hak ...so how am I supposed to add all these great
custom models that always seem to come in other .haks when
I can't use more than 1 .hak file per mod?

This hak is awesome. I love it! Finally, Mind Flayers!
Is there a difference between the illithid in the module
and this hak?

I tried editing the appearence .2da with the entries
below. I checked and double checked, but it still doesnt't
work.
Illithid now shows up in the appearence drop down list when
I go to edit a monster, but when I select illithid from the
list, it says model is unavailable?????????

Hey Dueeliz. Yes please post the module if you get the okay!
Im looking to redo the 1st Ed. Giant Series (G1-3)and Drow
Series (D1-3) and so this model is a must! :-)
BTW I loved your Sunless Citadel Mod..great work!

I was able to get the model to work in an appearance.2da
file. It appears as such (I know it will word wrap, but
hopefully come out somewhat readable):
I've created a module that is a showcase for this model.
It includes the appearance.2da and hak pak so its easy to
add the model to a module. I'll post it soon unless the
author asks me not too.
I've also noticed the model doesn't have the handconjure,
head, or headconjure nodes which handle certain effects.
I've added these nodes in 3ds max and everything works
perfectly. It will be included in the module I post unless
I'm requested not to by the author.
By using the 2da file correctly, it seems to have fixed the
spells being cast at the feet of the model.
Again, I must say this is a great model and thanks to Dan
Hibiki for doing such a wonderful job!

I've renamed the mdl to c_vampire_m.mdl ... but am having
no luck. The vampire still appears as a vampire after
putting all of the files in a hak and associating it with
my module.
Can anybody help?

WOW! All I can say is that this is the bomb! G. Hehe. Nah,
really, this is superfly fresh on a moldy roll. This is
tighter than my girlfriends painted on jeans. This is more
dope then a columbian druglords warehouse. Christ all
mighty mother o mercy! I will be using this as common as
goblins in my UnderHood Campaign.
Be on the lookout yo, for "Illithids Run Deep - An
UnderHood Campaign"

Great model! We finally have a decent Ilithid model to
work with.
I had to replace one of the vampire models with this one to
get it to work in my appearance.2da. I simply renamed the
ilithid.mdl to c_vampire_m.mdl and imported it along with
the unchanged tga files into the hak pack. When you select
the male vampire from the creature list, the ilithid model
will be useable.
I was unable to get it to work as a separate model in the
2da file. I'm not sure what caused this not to work.
The only other thing I noticed was that the spells the
ilithid would cast would originate from its feet. It looks
like the rootdummy is in the right place, so I'm not sure
why it would do this. I'll keep experimenting with it to
see if it is the result of how I got the model to work in
NWN.
I would suggest adding to your great model by including an
appearance.2da, hak file, and even an example mod for
people to see your work. In addition, a screenshot of the
actual model in game will make a lot more people download
it to try it out.
Again, great work on the Ilithid!

yep, thats exactly where the files belong in order to use
them....
just open the hak editor tool that comes with nwn and
import them...save as hak file....
then use it in a mod by applying the hak file....
but thats funny? no appearance or portrait files....what
will it look like under the monster menus...the tga files
are the skins that are applied to the mdl file. hmmmm...
hope this helps,

I admit that I don't know how to use this type of file,
and yes, it would be alot easier if it were a hak.

Be 10 times as useful if it were in a HAK to the average
user. I will pack it into a HAK file tonight and take a
look then give comments but you might want to consider
doing this for those that do not know how to create their
own content.
