Ben, please not that Xvim was acting in Faerun actually before the days of Myth Drannor.
Bane was once mortal, as you know, together with Myrkul and Bhaal. They adventured together, happened upon an unnamed god's decaying corpse (based on what I have read, I have reason to believe that this refers to the first deicide of Re by the one-eyed Gruumsh), fed on his energies, which had weird effects on them. I believe it was at that time they built their ambitions to ascend to godhood, but Bane, having seen that even gods can die, sought more backing on his desires and lay with a demoness. Having reached semi-godhood through the slain deity's blood he'd drunk, he passed to his son more power than a common tiefling would have, but still, Xvim was not born a demigod, he strove to this status.
Because he had some of his father's blood BEFORE Bane became a god, Xvim started to change when Bane's essence was dissolved. This change resulted into the blood of Bane inside Xvim "reforming itself" into Bane, who burst from within Xvim's body to take again his rightful place.
Just to have things clear... since the hand of Bane artifact was only one option for his resurrection.Hope is the denial of reality. But what is reality without a hope of changing it for the better? And what is worth doing if not the very thing that lesser mortals have labelled as "impossible to do", like making our hopes into our own reality.
Altazar the Dark Wizard
Actually the "Hand" was broken, not destroyed. The paladin, Holly Haverslough, was charged by Lathander to scatter the pieces of the broken hand across the planes. As for where the hand went from there, I'm not completely sure.
While Bane was walking Faerun as an avatar, he apparently had a trist with a demon that bore the Godson Xvim. When Bane was killed, his persona split into three entities: his essence, his body, and his power. His son Xvim was actually serving as a caccoon for the gestating Bane. Through the use of the Hand of Bane, Bane was resurrected. I'm sure there are other novels that explain this, but some information can be found in the Harper novel "Finder's Bane."

You have all you need already. Just make your pic 256 X 400, then open it w/paint go to attributes and change to 256 X 512. It will add the blank area for you.
Of course you'll need to change them to tga's but I'm sure you know that.
I would love to draw Bane, but I only have Paint and Photoimpression, and every time I make a portrait, I can't make the "blank" spot blank. NEED HELP!
