Have you been playing NWN for 8 years and wondering where the elementals from your D&D games went?
They've been found!
Well, they've been created. :)
This package overrides the appearances BioWare's basic air, earth, fire, and water elementals with ones that look much more like how I imagine elementals should appear.
Air: Working off BigfootNZ's superb Air Grue (link), I removed the debris, removed the third eye, changed the eye color, and lightened the smoke color to look more like light fog. No longer looks like some sort of genie.
Earth: This fellow lost the "hot" emitters, gained a brand new skinmesh of earth (dirt), and picked up a few small extra rocks and some glowing green eyes. He's much more solid now, instead of a pile of levitating rocks.
Fire: An alteration of the air elemental, this one glows bright orange, with red eyes. I also removed the "whirlwind" run/walk animation. Gone is the pot-bellied magma guy.
Water: No longer some sort jet-powered genie, this elemental is a living wave, with glowing blue eyes and a larger wave-shaped skinmeshed body. He likes to splash water around when crushing his enemies.
Two download options available: override and hak.
Edit: Seems I forgot a minor texture file with the initial upload. Now corrected.
Nice! The Earth Elemental especially... _________________________ -------------------------------------------

Amethyst, thanks for the response. Glad to see that you are still around. What you suggest makes sense to some degree. These guys don't wield weapons so the scaled up version should look just fine. However, you need to create custom creatures to do what you suggest. I'd prefer to override all the creatures in the standard palette.
The elder elementals use different models. Would be very cool to have different appearances for the standard elders as well. _________________________ Vault Submissions | Arnheim | Beyond Vives

Henesua: For elder elementals, I simply use one of the "invisible, scaled up" creature appearances included in the 1.69 update and set the tail as the desired elemental type. Instant bigger elemental (and I can fine-tune the final size based on my needs in the toolset). :) _________________________ World of Aenea (Hall of Fame PW and the origin of all my works)

These look very good. I especially like the earth elemental.
I happen to like the potbellied fire elemental so probably won't override that guy. _________________________ Vault Submissions | Arnheim | Beyond Vives

"Not sure what's going on with the models for you. The air and fire ones have the animations included within the model files. The earth and water ones should be using the animations from the default stone golem model (I think that's the one, as they don't have new animations themselves).
These are intended to replace only the regular elementals. If you want them to also replace the elder elemental models, you can either:
a) change the elder appearances in the toolset to the regular appearances or
b) copy the new elemental models and rename the copies to override the elder elemental models"

Aha! Downloaded it again and it works as supposed too. :D And thanks for the solution for the elder models, I went with option B because it was the easiest for me. :) _________________________ "Death makes equals of us all"

Hey all, I appreciate the info. I did a search for those tutorials but nothing came up. It would be helpful if anyone had that link and posted it here. If anyone wants to make that change to the Elemntal and remove the target glow that would be great. I only need it removed from the Stone Elemental. hes the only one thats a problem.
Feel free to contact me by email. it makes things much easier. I dont always get to look at the web site here. [email protected] _________________________ Dark

These are much better than the default NWN elementals. Congrats, AD.
@Dark,
The solution to both your questions can be found in Poleric's Horse Tutorial for 1.69 (I think that's what it's called, I might have the guy's name all wrong.). While it's a tutorial on horses, it also covers other things added in the 1.69 patch, such as scaling non-dynamic creature models (npcs without part customization like PCs), and also how to remove the targetting glow (as that becomes an issue with creatures who's size is enlarged or reduced from their default.

Dark:
As far as resizing, I'd suggest using one of the various 3d modeling programs. I use gmax myself (with NWMax plugins), but haven't really tried anything in the way of resizing creature models. _________________________ World of Aenea (Hall of Fame PW and the origin of all my works)

Ok, good enough. I thought maybe it was something you had changed in the model. If you find out anything let me know.

I absolutely love this override, just got one minor issue. For me, the Elder versions of the elementals has the default bioware look, and not just that, the Fire, Air, and Water elemental has a 'static' animation/aka does not have any animation at all.
I am not sure what I did wrong, I placed the files in the override folder...help? _________________________ "Death makes equals of us all"

Dark,
Not sure what to do about the targeting glow. Usually that is something automatically added based on the size and geometry of a creature model. I'm not sure how much it is affected by using a skinmesh (such as the one covering the earth elemental). It might be a good question to bring up on the BioWare custom content forum. _________________________ World of Aenea (Hall of Fame PW and the origin of all my works)

Amethyst
I placed these in my mod and was playing around with them. they are really nice but there is a small issue that I think you may be able to fix. When targeting them they have a hugh red glow around them. How do you getthis glow down? It distorts the creature the way it is now. Can you let me know what needs to be changed in the mdl file or can you post up some new ones that are fixed?
Thanks, _________________________ Dark

Amethyst Dragon,
These are great looking. im seriously considering adding these to my mod. but insteead of having people use invisible and a tall to get the size they are looking for. maybe you should think about adding some more sizes? Just a thought.

Thank you for all the votes and the feedback/comments.
I really, really like how these guys turned out myself, especially since the water and earth elementals are the first models I've ever done a skinmesh for. And now that these have 25 votes from other NWN folks, I'm going to throw myself a vote because they rock. :P _________________________ World of Aenea (Hall of Fame PW and the origin of all my works)
