Converted for NWN from the Dragonlance Monster Manual Template. DEATH KNIGHT A death knight is the horrifying corruption of a hero once virtuous, cursed by the gods to its terrible form as punishment for betraying the principles held in its former life. Death knights are cursed to remain in their former domains, and remember their crimes in song on any night of the full moon. A typical death knight was a powerful warrior, taller than six feet and weighing more than 300 pounds. Its face is a blackened skull covered in scraps of shriveled, rotting flesh, and its armour and clothing is scorched and blackened as though burned in a fire. The death knight has two glowing pinpoints of flame in its eye sockets, and a deep, chilling voice that seems to echo from the depths of a bottomless cavern.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 17 that made this score of 8.29 then rounded to 8.

Death knight as blackguard? Well, it's possible but I honestly don't think so. Correct me if i am wrong but as I understand it, blackguards are either fallen paladins (formerly LG) or dark knights (LE from the start) such as the Knights of Takhisis. Death knights on the other hand are cursed by the divine (Soth is a good example). Anyway, what happened to Soth? Is he dead? I've been out of RPG for quite some time now so I may be seriously out of the loop.
Btw, anyone out there thinking of making a module with Soth and his entire entourage?

Aye, I'm not an expert, but since as I understand they are like fallen paladins, should they not have Blackguard as class?

Nope, Death Knight is Level 20 as per the new AD&D d20 rules, I used a template to make him from the Dragonlance world....there are only supposed to be 12 Death Knights in a world at one time, maybe that's where you heard 12... :)

The game is called The Path of Balance under the action catagory.
Thanks again!

Question, what does the paladin level give him that he
uses? I was thinking about it, and Lord Soth, although
granted was a Knight of the Rose, didn't have any palidin
like abilities, Perhaps giving him more undead levels or
some fighter levels would round him out a bit better, I'm
going to download this when I get home and see how it plays
out, it looks nice, I'm just wondering what the palidin
levels do for him.

Just wanted to say that i think you did an excellent job!
I am in process of making a rather vast conversion of a P&P
module I made to NWN. I had made my own Death Knight when
I was just learning how to use the editor, and your was
much nicer. I have since removed my Death Knight and
implanted yours. he Only thing I have changed is his
weapon, I custom made a +3 2HSword with Cold damage,
because the sword was part of the treasure the party gets
for victory. Very Nice Job. . .I love the armor and Helm.

manually adjust it down to what it seems to be. I think

round him out. ..." ---
Yeah the equipment is what did it...and I was able to give
him all the abilities of a death knight by giving
him "creature skin" with the propertises he needed, the
only 2 things I couldn't do was the Death Knight's Song,
and the Wall of Ice I modified to Wall of Fire, everything
else is by the Drangonlance Monster Manual Template. I
understand Wizard! Lord Soth was a
Paladin/Wizard...Bigsby's Crushing Hand isn't a normal
Death Knight Spell by any means...lol...Buy rake a look at
what I did and then look at the Creature Inventory on him
and see how I did it and let me know what you think...and
the sword and Armor can be changed per Death Knight. I
have the Ravenloft 3E book and am thinking about doing a
module on Sithicus in Ravenloft, to explain the downfall
of Lord Soth...a +blocked+ dwarf rules his kingdom
now...???...lol

very nice, I dunno if its any better or worse than what I
have in my draconian zip, however I was suprised by your CR
problem. My Death Knight was a tough challenge for a level
20 and he was only CR level 25 I think in NWN. Of course
there was a recent CR bug that may have caused that to be
either wrong or perhaps may be affecting your CR. 69 is
insane, my boss dragon in Halls of Dread is only level 59
amd he has well over 1000 hp and is almost impossible to
kill unless you got several people, and even then. Expect
death. So I tend to think there is a CR bug at work here.
Equipment will shoot your CR up, even if it doesn't effect
your monsters power, if that happens I just manually adjust
it down to what it seems to be. I think the major
difference between mine and yours was that mine was a
monster undead/paladin/wizard. Yea wizard. Weird I know.
However since several death knight abilities weren't doable
I decided to give him some additional spells to round him
out. He's got a smattering of cleric type spells and high
level wizard spells plus the usual fear aura and the
traditional spells he should have that I was able to
duplicate. I wound up with 200 hp total. Classwise I have
him at 10/10/10 for wizard, undead and paladin. I haven't
used yours on a map yet but mine I know works pretty much
the way a death knight should. Tough and strong magically,
but not impossible for a solo level 20 to take on. I'll put
yours in a test mod I am doing for dragonlance to see how
it works. Good to see others doing Dragonlance work though!

There are only suppossed to be 12 Death Knights in any
Campaign world. This is a template. I think it works
best as a Lvl 20 Paladin, but you can adjust for
yourself. Since a Death Knight has d12 as HD I just
multiply 10 x the Level for Hit Points. Make the Undead
Level the same as the Paladin Level also. This sends the
NWN CR through the roof, but I'm not having a Death Knight
turned as a 3 HD Undead. The NWN CR is way off anyway. I
made a Lvl 15 Paladin Death Knight and the NWN CR was 69,
and the Official D&D CR was 17, my 18th Lvl Druid was able
to take care of it, so I tend to think the NWN CR is
a "little" exaggerated. So the Proper CR is the Paladin
Lvl plus 2. But this is a Use as is or a template,
whichever you want. The only things I could not make were
the Death Knight Song, and I changed the Wall of Ice at
wil, to Wall of Fire at will... Have fun.
