Death
Modified permadeath system. Characters are allowed a deity check and may be returned to the living by clerical intervention.
Impiltur - The Forgotten Kingdom is a role-play focused, persistent world set in the northern kingdom of Impiltur in the world of Faerûn of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. We observe the Hard Core Ruleset (HCR) and are currently running a modified version of HCR 3.2b by Archaegeo et all. Characters are expected to remain in character while playing and will be rewarded for sincere, consistent role-play.
Great care has been taken to present a believable and authentic game setting that provides the players an engaging and immersive arena in which to develop their characters. As a result, progress in Impiltur is purposely slow as the creators of this world believe in the development of a character's personality and storyline through interaction with the game world and other characters. Though experience is to be found through combat, greater rewards are found in sincere portrayal of one's character. One will also find that Impiltur is a low magic arena in which powerful weapons and items are extremely rare.
Impiltur - The Forgotten Kingdom is a hak free server open to any who enjoy good role-play and the opportunity to share in the development of the game world through their character's involvement.
Some features of the world include:
- 300+ custom tailored areas to explore
- Scripted quests for low-level PCs
- Modified 3E Crafting by Vulcano
- Seamless transitions
- Persistent banking & item storage
- Fishing, skinning, & climbing skills
- Useable herbs and flora
- Full Faerûnian diety pantheon system
- Languages
- Persistent inns
- Persistent mapping system
- Persistent journals
- Spell material component system
- On going DM controlled plotlines
- PCs can influence change through RP

An old server, an echo from the past; reminiscent of the old HCR/permadeath days and probably because it is from them!
It is incredibly harsh, to the point where I think the builders may actually hate some classes. It is straight hard with the rarity of consumables, and simply mean (for melee) rest healing and god help you if you lose a familiar (and more than half of them are level restricted!).
This is the server where you heal something like 15% of your hitpoints a rest and you can rest maybe once every 30 minutes. This is a server where you need to scrap and scrape up goblin daggers for one gold a piece. This is a server where an unlucky spawn lands a goblin arrow right through your head. This is a server with no remorse for that either.
The harshness of permadeath. I might even say too harsh, though this may be a product of the player numbers. This server seems to be designed for a balanced party, but there just aren't the players for it or if there are, they make no effort to group with you (either because they are 20 zones and 50 goblin archers [and god knows what else] away or because they are 8 levels ahead of you, a whole lot here).
I love the transition system (when it doesn't land me up an inescapable cliff) and the way it has effected zone design, especially in the wilderness. It has a strange feel to it, almost mazey, almost natural. But it really is lacking in variety. Forests, forests with fields, goblins, goblins, goblinsgoblinsgoblins.
The harshness (to a degree) is fun, the chance of death is great. But all this really does is spice the grind with salt and pepper.
I like a lot of what is going on. But there isn't much else to do than the grind. And the server really is show its age in some respects.
Some of the systems are really outdated (the autofollow is a really, really old, finicky one) and it doesn't have CEP.
On the server's forums, the argument went basically: "Custom HAKS drive away new players! CEP is a custom HAK set!".
Well, lets look at the top 3 RP servers right now, as I type this:
sinfar.net (adults only) - Misplaced social server running CEP and their own hak packs
Prisoners of the Mist - Ravenloft themed PW running CEP and their own hak packs
Forgotten Realms Cormyr - Faerun (Cormyr) server running CEP
All of these are right now above forty players, one of them is 70+. Impiltur right now has 2 of 20. I typed this on 8:21 on a Friday.
This server needs some serious updates to scripts, zones, content and ways of thinking. It needs more DMs (i think there is only one) at least, and CEP!!!
Details:
SEVER NAME, MODULE NAME: Forgotten Realms, Impiltur - The Forgotten Kingdom
CEP?: No
HCR: Yes
DEATH SYSTEM: Typical 0 to -10 bleed out. At death, fugue zone. Corpse can be taken a
healer and revived for 800(?) gold and serious XP/level loss, revival rare in lower
levels due to rarity of gold. New players are given one free revival. Each death
(i think) is allowed a deity roll, which seems to be like rolling more than 90 on a
1d100, yeah.
PLAYERS AVERAGE: 2 to 6 (12 I've seen), server max 20
LEVEL AVERAGE: 6 to 12
XP ratio: Fairly low; 6 for a goblin, 12 for a "challenging" goblin at lvl 1
RP: .. medium low? Fairly grind oriented.. not often DMs around. I admit I haven't played more than 3 months. I have seen a few interesting PCs
and had some fun interactions, but this was fairly rare. A lot of the players are either inclusive and cliquey or just not interested in making
banter or holding a conversation. I'm not sure which, but I will say a lot of the players are very polite OOCly and helpful. I'm sorry if this
rating makes me a douchebag.
DESIGN(area): Quaint, rustic, familiar, but boring, might actually hurt above some. Wilderness is well done and the spawns are fairly balanced
DESIGN(systems): Seems to be some old frankenstein of scripts from the early days that has smoothed itself out.. rare bugs, mostly just issues with
the custom transition system in certain conditions.
THEME: Forgotten Realms, Impiltur Area
MAGIC LEVEL (theme): Low. Peasants (ICly) do not tolerate magic, afraid of it. Seemingly low usage of magical beasts.
MAGIC LEVEL (items): Magical items appear to be very, very rare. Healing potions are very expensive, mostly healing is done through applying 1hp
restoring herbs found usually in the wilderness.

Hands down the best RP server I have played on since going online with NWN in 2003.
