All around a great server to play on. I know I spend probably 90% of my in game time on Alestorm. As long as you follow the rules and be respectful it can be very enjoyable. My husband says he never sees me laughing unless I am online playing on alestorm, on team speak, or reading the forums... *blush*... Yes.. We have fun on Alestorm. From a players point of view: There is the occasional jerk and nutjob, but most people on this server are nice, and very skilled builders and PvP strategists. The item system isnt OP, but it isnt weak. The team choosing system has only a few flaws. I've been here for almost two years and am already as attached to it as I am to the server I've DMed on for about 3 years.
DMs point of view: Well, as far as I can tell the DMs and GMs are fair in their judgement. None are "corrupt" and they are all enjoyable to play with in PvP. The server is well built, and I like most of the scripts, as they make me and other players happy.

i still give it a ten with the 1.69, but to those who are whining about being booted, they have their reasons. It clearly states in rules that no swearing is allowed, and we have 86 members on the forums and i will bet you that at all times there is at least one of us on the server, and you won't get away with breaking rules. The DMs vary in how strict they are but most of them won't stand it because it says "we can swear when dm's aren't on tehe". You get booted for the round because it's a round that you messed up on and it's YOUR problem that you weren't following rules. I'm sure any host who reads this would probably agree that if one of their rules got broken and it was round based you would be booted for the round. So stop flaming a good server and follow the freakin rules.
About bigby's...that's what makes alestorm so great is that our players are constantly coming up with new builds that outdo the rest. I came up with a build that was indominable, nobody could beat it. A week later it was getting dominated every time i turned around...so i made a new one. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen is a very appropriate term here.

This is an overall excellent server. There are some balance issues but not enough to restrict how much fun it can be. The concept is clever and well made.
you get booted and cant get back in when you catch someone cheating red handed? especially if its someone who is supposed to be preventing cheating, morally bankrupt are they?or just skievey ....edit correction, you don't get booted, you get banned and autobooted every time you try to log in...pretty skievy, i guess thats what happens when someone banned from tons of servers gets a finger on the admin button....(crossposted from alestorm forum where it will soon be deleted no doubt)

It used to be a fun server and a great place to play on as I have played on it for almost a year. Yet now mages and monks rule the server spamming stun fist and bigby spells. They are also able to chain cast greater sanctuary so they are untouched. If anyone tries to get close to take a swipe at them. The only way you can even survive now is to have mind and death immunity. The gameplay itself is fun as is trying to beat the boss at the end which can be challenging. Though mages can still get about 70 or so dc on their bigby spells even after it being "fixed". So unless you get AC that high your doomed almost every time. Even if you still are immune to the effects of the bigby the didn't fix the spell animation and you still will get grappled. If they could fix it so greater sanctuary had a timer and bigby wasn't so high in the upper 70s and such. It would be a great server to play on. With these huge issues it has been a great disappointment for the limited effort that has been done to fix these major unbalances. There are some great players on this server and nice people. But until those issues are fixed all it will be is a great frustration as you run out and a mage bigbys you with a dc 65 spell. Then when you get close goes into greater sanctuary and bigbys you again. The only other way to survive past all the mages is to get a spell resistance monk. If those issues were fixed then it would be a fun and perfect server for a Team PVP player to play on. Till then I am just disappointed.

As a long time gamer and DM of Mike's BoTD, I never thought I would find anything that would thrill my need for pvp like BoTD... that is until I started drinking the crisp, taste Ale that poured from the Storm of LoTR!
As has already been said, some of the best killers on the net play there, and it has really sharpened my own game. Mad respect to Kree, Wulf, & Vad

Team based PvP in an LOTR setting.
That should attract most people.
What keeps me there? The skilled players, balanced gear, an active DM staff and, monthly tournaments. :D This is THE best PvP server out there.

Ale Storm is an powerful fast leveling PvP world. All gear is the balanced and upgraded. The community is the finest collections of skilled PvP players I've ever seen.
I'm a friend of Wulfs and we live in the same city. I've known Kree for a while now and have met Vad. You'll not find a better group of guys running a server. Doing their best to make sure it runs smoothly and the players always have a place to go. The player base here is strong and continues to grow. A good place to be.

I've been playing the server since it began about 3 years ago.. and i still play it today, its not only the module which has improved over the past years to keep me going, its the community that goes along with it.. whilst most communitys have died, Alestorm still remains. With this module i actually feel my input is valued and i hope it lives for many years to come! Great job guys! and long may it continue..

This is just an overall amazing server. I have been DM'ing and building for this module for over a year now, and I still see this server having an extremely bright future. The balance of the game, the players, and the staff all make this server a no doubt 10.
