First off, Playaaa's post came across as well thought out, constructive, and not realyl all that negative. minion's response -I suppose because he only gave you a 5, huh?- shows how vindictive and petty people on this server really are. You didn't get a 10 so it's time to air the dirty laundry, right?
Despite the fact that minions response dropped the already low rating I was going to give by a couple points, the real problem I have with this server are some of the egotistical jerks there that make it virtually unplayable. Two players, epicspire and sydsbluesky, act like they are gods gift and should be banned from this game altogether. Not only did they PK FOR NO REASON, they sent me some very abusive tells both before and afterward and obviously felt no remorse for what they did. I cannot believe the DMs and people running the server actually let these guys run around here.
As for the place in general, the building is subpar despite the fanboy posts, the staff nonexistent or oblivious, and players are beyond horrendous. Stay away from Pirate Isles. Far, far away.

In a time where there exists a myriad of sub-par servers its rare to find a gem like this. I recommend anyone to at least come and check the place out.
*edit: playaaa's recent post, not his original one, as his "original" post is the Description and all of the server/module info listed above, which he kindly created/posted here a while ago.
i'll abstain from voting on the server i DM on, but i'll give a little perspective on the passive/aggressive smears of playaaa's original post.
playaaa has stopped playing on PI, because we (the DM's) stopped allowing him to host the server and use that as leverage to influence how the server was designed and run. he locked the module's originator, builder, and lead DM out of the server over a respawn caused by creatures that he wasn't aware had been placed in the most recent update and therefore assumed had been intentionally spawned by the DM in order to kill his PC. that was the last straw.
"(Side note: It can be reasonably argued that when players have unpleasant run ins with staff it can be just as much the players responsibility as it is the staff's. However, if those players are not experiencing similar unpleasant staff encounters on other servers...)" -quote playaaa, who was temporarily banned from another server within the last 5 months and subsequently stopped playing there and offered to host PI
he has many kind words for the module, and that's appreciated, but take the "impossible to read" and "Mistakes and lack of thorough preparation in combat and adventuring can be very very costly" sentiments with a grain of salt, please and thank you.
minion/DM Scapegoat
ps, i know i should have left this alone, but deceit is doubly frustrating when masked by a smile and a flowery tone. i'd rather this entire listing be ripped down than leave that post to stand unchallenged.

Pirate Isles is worth visiting, and if it's for you, staying. Some things to consider:
- Visually rich, diverse, well coordinated and exquisitely detailed module
the areas flow well together from one to the next, and the colour palette is immense in range, with outdoorsy areas achieving that feel of being outside where you almost think you can smell the fresh air. Similarly, the creepy areas actually make the hair on your neck crawl, and in all cases sound effects and music have been selected to reinforce the theme and feel of the area, and that same theme is in most or all cases a result of the overall concept and mythos of the module and the world in which is resides. No detail spared in the area creations.
- Generous use of CEP content
Enormous effort has been expended to showcase, in good taste and proportion, elements of the Community Expansion Pack that are not often (or ever?) seen in other NWN modules. This directly contributes to the player seldom (or never) getting the sense of "Oh, this reminds me of some other module / persistent world I played".
- Encounters
The artificial intelligence driving the hostile NPCs is wonderfully diverse, resulting in very challenging, yet entirely manageable encounters. As much care is needed in solo adventuring as is needed by parties. Mistakes and lack of thorough preparation in combat and adventuring can be very very costly.
- Items
The amount of custom content in terms of equip-able, findable, sellable items is staggering. A significant portion of the custom items tie in directly to the conditions and experiences one finds in the module.
- Language
There is a sharp contrast in the large amount of imagination that has been poured into descriptions and dialogues, versus the little amount of care that has been put into spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typographical errors (though less now than in the beginning). Not all lovers of NWN are people who enjoy reading descriptions and dialogue. For those who are, though, leave your enjoyment of well written English (or well written Piratese) at the door before you log in.
- Players
The core group of players who play on Pirate Isles on a regular basis are all seasoned role players who focus on role playing and having fun doing so. Each has at least one player character with an original concept and storyline that intertwines at one or more levels with those of other player characters and NPCs. Many of those players play on multiple persistent worlds and as such bring a wealth of role play and story telling experience to the world of Pirate Isles.
- Staff
Throughout its history Pirate Isles has been staffed by people who are passionate about the development of the persistent world. As Pirate Isles is still in its early stages (it went live 24/7 in December of 2010), the staff are still learning the ropes in terms of how to administer and game master the world (none of them have previous experience administering a NWN persistent world). With time and experience, they will no doubt become seasoned veterans creating a wonderful experience for nearly all players with whom they interact. Until then, a player's experience with Pirate Isles may be hit and miss due to their encounters with staff. Some players have had wonderful experiences, and others less so.
(Side note: It can be reasonably argued that when players have unpleasant run ins with staff it can be just as much the players responsibility as it is the staff's. However, if those players are not experiencing similar unpleasant staff encounters on other servers...).
Conclusion:
Pirate Isles can be for you if you love originality, love to role play, like to have fun, don't mind the occasional (or frequent) blurb of text that is difficult or impossible to read, and the staff either leave you alone or interact with you fairly. My vote is based on how much I weigh each of those aspects as they relate to my experience as a player on Pirate Isles.

This server has provided the most fun I have had in my NWN career. The setting is a welcome change from the norm, and there are MANY CEP implementations that I have never seen used before. The RP is fantastic, and all the players seem to be driven by RP more than any other factor. DM interaction is also outstanding and very frequent. It is obvious that all the parties involved with running and creating the world are very passionate about doing so. Highly recommended.

Great fun and a well made world. There are plenty of things to see - like a trip under the harbor, dangerous crypts, lost islands, and murky swamps...oh yes and pirates too!

Well built, and full of imagination. The staff has done some interesting things with an otherwise seldom talked about region of the realms. There is some very nice rp being done, and many players enjoy themselves here. Should pop your head in, and give it a try, I doubt you are disappointed. Only gave a 9.5 because it's still in progress. :)
