Description
Dragon Coast is an original, Neverwinter Nights persistant world with a heavy emphasis on roleplaying. We've been online and active for over 2 years, and during this time we've run hundreds of plots and quests, from large, world-changing story arcs, to smaller, everyday quests run for high and low levels alike. Over the years, Dragon Coast has welcomed in three eras, each taking place at a different point in history. The current era has been christened "Erithorn's Might", and takes place upon the fictional continent of Athus. Erithorn's Might was designed from scratch by a team of builders and writers over a period of nine months. Take a walk across the rooftops of the Red City; climb the snowy peaks of the Orchlan Mountains; visit the sorrowful remains of the ruined forest of Sorfela. There's no end of things to do, and over 650 areas to visit. We're a friendly community of around 250 active players, 13 DMs and 5 admins, so there's always someone to help out or just to roleplay with. Our forums are free and quick to join, and that's all it takes to get the password to join our server. If you're looking for a NWN server to roleplay on, Dragon Coast: Erithorn's Might is one of the best around - but don't take our word on it; Join up and try us out!

Fantastic server. I've been part of this community for quite sometime. This community welcomes other warmly and is dedicated to having a great time in a unique way.
Definitely a great roleplaying community....until you cross the dm. I enjoyed myself greatly, until I was banned...fun times! DM Merlin couldn't handle a silly bribe...although as a DM he should be used to it by now...but what are ya goin to do. Go here, but don't bother with DM Merlin.
Just tried the Mod and found it very intriguing. I instantly got rewarded with great RP and had great fun! Only negative aspect: The forums and webpage are down at the moment...
Anyone fixing that? :c) _________________________ Once I discovered how to breath, surviving suddenly turned out to be hillariously easy...

Hold on there lord fear. I have been playing on Dragons Coast: EM, for just under a year now, this includes a 3 or 4 month break where my cd's were "misplaced", and I have never once encountered this apprent problem you are having. The DM's have always been totally receptive in every way to my needs as a player. Infact it was only at lvl 8 that I got my first DM created quest with follow players, considering most severs don't even have in any way the will to allow new players DM attention, this is bloody good.
On almost every server I have been on, including many large servers whom start with A, *cough* *cough*, the DM's have people they "favor", players whom no matter what character they make, get lead roles in whatever DM made quest they wish. However on EM I have never once encountered this. Never once seen a long fight seen between some big enemy and a "Favored" player/character. This is a balanced DM attention not seen on many servers.
EM has impressed me beyond belief, the only complaint I would have about EM is perhaps the fact that there are really only certain times when the server contains a large number of players, and that the DM's are only on really at certain times. But thats the case with most servers.
At its lowest mark EM deserves a 9. At its highest...can I go any higher then 10?
Great server, give it a go.

I've never before seen any online gameworld where the admin team put as much effort into listening to the players and acceptnig suggestions as DragonCoast. With the new Player Liaisons and Event Coordinators, players' suggestions and gripes have an outlet for being assessed and solved whilst the main DM staff are still able to present a detailed, rich setting. With infinite options for any characters and a huge, beautifully designed and maintained world to play in, this server offers players the very best in terms of roleplay immersion, community and enjoyment.

Lord_Fear, I give you 10.00 itself in your pathetic attempt to discredit the server. The DMs are brilliant, the owner is brilliant, and I've never seen a DM do what you say they do. I love this server, it is one of the best, if not the best I have been on. No doubt. From the expert DM and Admin team to the beautiful areas, it really grabs the eye.

This server would be nice if you could remove most of the DM's and especially the owner. This server is knee deep in there little circles and you are either in them or not. Some Dm's treat players very badly and even if you have a screen shot of it the owner does not care. This is a case where having bad DM's and favoritism brings down a server. But the problem stems from the top.

I'm sorta off and on an Admin/DM.
DC is the first place that I ever stuck around for Roleplay with NWN. I fondly remember the early days of my logging on and knowing absolutely nothing, yet being helped by other players and slowly learning the lore of the world. It's amazing how much work the team that Sorion and co. put into this place, all for free. The world is absolutely fantastically built, and it's painstakingly reviewed and revised constantly. Errors are fixed immediatly.
The adventures and so forth that the DM team runs are fantastic, and can involve either something smallish (when a DM feels whimsical, or something a PC does spurs an small event) or something enormous and catastrophic.
If there's a DM logged in when you are, you can be 100% sure that he (or she) is running a quest!
Questions and so forth are always promptly answered and help is offered often not only by DMs, but fellow players.
Do your self a favour and check it out.

A great roleplayserver with great players and great DM's. If you're not a bad roleplayer (aka pure "powergamer" etc) then you'll like it here. You can actually be at level 2 (starting level) and become an hero because of a DM-event, even if you've just played for like one week. There is no favourism amongst the DM's, and the players who gets put in DM-events often try to get new (and old) players in on the event. If they have the rp-reason to do that.
Try DC today if you wish to have a great rp-experience!

DC is a great server. I've looked through some of the comments and I found some guys saying DC is a badly run server. This following post is not a rant against anyone, even though I use a small example from the comments I found. It's just for an example of an action, not to make the person saying it look dumb.
I'll say what I often say: Things become what you want them to become. And you get what you deserve. And pure rp-opinion: If you do a stupid thing, be aware of the consequences instead of whining.
Example: Someone said he got put in jail by the guards for "challenging an elite". Which was a noble in the game. And I'd like to reply on that with: DUH! In the real world you'd be put in jail for "challenging" a noble. If you were unhappy with the consequense, blame yourself. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that "challenging" nobles results in prison (and sometimes punishments).
Many rp-servers let the players do dumb rp-things and not really punishes them. Which is very odd. A great rp-server takes the time to punish the player(s) with bad things when they do bad things. And that's amazing in DC. That the DM's takes their time to actually punish/reward evil/good rp'ing so often.
I know several players with punishments like low hp etc just because of their actions in DC. And they like it, due to the rp-feeling.
So, what am I meaning with all this? Simply:
If you love roleplaying, DC is the server for you. It's as close to reality as you can get but in a fantasyworld. Most things have rewards/punishments, due to the very active DM's. Do bad stuff and you'll get RP-punished for it. Do great stuff and you'll get RP-rewarded for it.
And you don't need DM's to roleplay. The players are as good as the DM's in DC. Honestly, who cares about if it's a DM or a player? Be in it for the roleplaying, not for the eventual "xp-reward". A good rp'er knows that it's not about xp, it's about having fun! And it isn't in the "Role Play"-section for no reason... ;)
So join DC today if you're searching for a fantastic roleplayexperience.
If you're searching for a place to fight people, join another server.
No matter what you decide to do: Have fun!

To this day, I've never found another sever that even comes close to the attention to detail, player-DM interaction, and immersive RP than what I've found on Dragon Coast. This server has a culture all its own, and once you lake the time to learn the history and mythos, the atmosphere is truely incredible.
In no way do I consider myself "buddy-buddy" with any of the DMs there, and I am able to consistently make requests, offer feedback, and interact at a level that is absoluely amazing. There is a staff there that takes player feedback very seriously, and tries to do what's right for the community as a whole.
I typically find that those players who have a problem with DC are generally rude, engage in disruptive behavior, and are thusly banned. That said, this is not an "anything goes" server. The staff expects a standard of RP that is consistent with all the hard work that they've put into the server. To fault them for that is simply misguided. Any person with an interest in RP is welcome here, no matter the amount of experience he or she may have.
I have NO real-life friends on DC, and I have been welcomed into their community with open arms. The amount of interaction and the level of RP I experience here still amazes me after 2 years. You won't find me wandering in search of other servers anymore. This one is home.

Being a veteran PnP gamer, I spent a long while searching fro some true RP-based PW mods when I got NWN. The best I found were some rather boring Anphilia servers where, although the players had fun and there was some RP, the characters weren't allowed to develop... fair enough, it's the rules of the mod... so I spend more time searching, eventually after 2 years, I was recommended DC. I am still just as amazed as I was wen I started playing. The sheer scale of the map, the story arcs and the diversity of peoples and players, the incredibly well-detailed and inspired building, the intricate histories and complete customisation of characters, items, races, etc. The administrators and DMs have, and continue to, put a great deal of effort in, and it pays off. The community certainly RP in a mature and responsible fashion, meaning yuour character can grow and develop, react to and be reacted to purely by your own RP devices. As for the mention of favouritism and 'friends-of-DMs', I have seen no such evidence. Of course, there are many veteran players who have a lot of time to play and are therefore more able to participate in more evens, but this isn't down to favouritism, merely circumstance. I am relatively new to the server, but my RP'ing has paid off, which I find is the best way to gain 'acceptance' or 'recognition' from the other players... just RP! The community is welcoiming, friendly and there is a great deal of mutual respect between players and DMs alike. The DM staff in particular are helpful, willing to take notice of your characters' ideals and RP, even to make character-oriented quests specifically. This is the first server I have truly found no 'Evil litytle gnomes running round PKing for the sake of it', nor have I found my characters' RP being quoshed in favour of some predefined stereotype i.e. 'You're a Druid you HAVE to hug trees...' All in all, if you're looking for a Roleplaying Experience in a persistent setting, at least pop in and say 'Hi'!

To those who truly harbour the idea that DC is full of favorisitism, fair enough. I've been at the server for awhile and it's amazing, it can be said however that it's one of those places you go and you either fit into it, or you don't. They love you if you do and they're buggers if you don't so the best thing you can do is start to play and find out for yourself.
It's a diverse place, sometimes the DM's exceed excellence, sometimes you feel it's a server for them and their friends not you. (DM's are only human)
My advice, if you fit in, stick at it and prepare to be awe struck with the scope and sheer power of the amazing world they've created. If you don't *STICK AT IT* sometimes it just takes you awhile to fit into things and also don't rely on the DM's alone to entertain you, get to know the players too.
It's the conflict and people of DC that make it one of the most appealing servers on NWN, despite it's flaws it's too beautiful not to love :).

In nearly every venture i've undertaken, i've discovered that those who do little to no work in helping the group become better, are those who complain the most. DC is a rocking server. the mapping is beautiful and detailed, the storylines are intriguing, the world is constantly changing, the players' decisions can be earth-shaking at points, and best of all: DC's full of great people. i'm not here for the things about the server that make it a cool server. though there's always the occasional moron, i stay because of the people.
the server attracts some of the best rp'ers, players and hence some of the best characters i've ever seen.
Posted by RSOG ( 71.112.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-09-28 18:07:16
I've been here for a little bit at the end of DC:IB, and now DC:EM... looking on these other posts, I can say, the server's improved. The staff did have a rather "under the table" policy regarding things they didn't like, but I stayed on the server because the players and staff were, in short, too darned good to give up. I kept my mouth shut and I watched, over the short time I've been here, I've watched the server and players improve around me, and myself with it. When I came to the server, I was rather roleplay-retarded. I watched and learned from those around me.
The staff, what so many people have been complaining about, I see nothing wrong with. Sure they weren't great in IB, but most of the people whose names I recognize here who are complaining about being banned - The staff had every right and reason to ban you. Live with it.
Also, what Brygun said about DM favoritism - There are a couple of DMs on the server that I'll joke around with in [Tells]. That's about how far DM favoritism goes. Am I able to "get my DM friend?" - No. Not unless the person who I'm getting them against really IS breaking server rules. Am I getting extra rewards? - No. Not as far as I know. If you see someone running around with a cool personalized magic item, it's probably because they asked for one, and then the DMs worked a quest, or a price into it. I see unique items given to obscure players as much as they are to the oldbies.
Now... as for the bad, I don't really know what to put. Well, that's not entirely true, there is -one- thing wrong with DC.
Too much attention for the high levels. No, wait, that's not it, the low levels get just as much attention, however, the high levels are still driving every major quest. While there are no level restrictions on the DM events, so the low levels are welcome to tag along, but that's just about what we do - tag along. All of the major, world-shattering events are played, from beginning to end, by the high levels, with the low levels acting as the cheerleader-team. Now, this makes perfect sense, really. The high levels are much more capable of saving the world than the low levels, so it's only natural that they'll be the ones fighting the big fight, but it really would be nice if, from time to time, some obscure commoner were to turn up some information, rather than the 'heroes' saving us all before we ever know we needed saving.

If you like DMs who pay attention to elite RPers and there friends play here. Ive seen some corruption with the DMing here. Favoritism people.
