Description
Abyss 404 is a persistent world which offers a refreshingly edgy and twisted anti-generic surrealistic post-apocalyptic style of play, 29 custom native races to choose from, high attention to detail, and a server design that is intentionally conducive to roleplay. --- The setting is an exceptionally bizarre and challenging Abyssal layer that acts as an interplanar lost-and-found, which ironically can only found by those who themselves are lost. The server is password protected to help ensure quality of roleplay. The world is a part of the Confederation of Planes and Planets (CoPaP), a group of linked high-quality low-magic roleplay servers. To apply for a password, visit: http://copap.org --- Warning: Throw away any preconceptions of the Abyss being only filled with demons, fire, and that thick red fog that builders always seem to use when portraying the Abyss. This piece of the Abyss is something quite different.

Extremely well-created and scripted, original and fun!
Try it and you'll be hooked too...!

When RG ran the show, this was a superb server. This ran through beta, when IRL dragged him off. Since, there have been some issues I have had with my character being deleted (perhaps my fault as I had been gone for three months), and then unable to regain levels/gear (which are NOT easy to gain, and I had played for some time to achieve the glory of level 5) despite the DM I had actually played under remembering me fully. Apparently, there is server policy forbidding such which seems foolish, IMO.
Otherwise, superb server, had a few lag issues due to placeables. When it was Beta, there were no haks whatsoever, and all the custom subraces, et al were 100% au naturale, as were all the VERY unique areas and creatures. Content is superb. _________________________ Lan's Placeable Groups v1.5

Gratz on your nomination. Hello too all my old friends on the 404. :)

Having RPed and DMed on this server for over 2 years now I feel that I can make an adequate and accurate assessment of what this server is capable of. I've played on somewhere around 30-40 servers that I've found on IGN, of those only about 3 managed to keep me interested for any period of time, and of those 3 only A404 has managed to completely captivate me. I think the best way to describe the server is something I said to a DM a long time ago before I became staff, "When I'm on Abyss I don't even feel like I'm playing NWN, it feels like an entirely different engine built specifically for this server."

Almost as good as Silent Hill and Metroid

Sets the standard of role playing

I'd probably give it a 9 or a 9.50, but some idiot gave it a 1, so I have to counter that.
Anyhow, this is a fantastic server. The builders have paid great attention to detail, and the DMs have created some wonderful games and quests. I enjoy the low-magic, high-RP environment, and the staff has worked hard to keep the server that way.
Complaints? Some of the DMs are far better at DMing than they are at administrating. And things take a long time to get done.
But it's still the best server out there. Cheers, guys.

After being prodded about Abyss time and time again by a friend, I finally went out and payed $35 dollars for NWN and its two expansions. Abyss is the only thing I use NWN for (I've never even gone through the single-player campaigns as of yet), and I just have to say.. It is WELL worth the $35. And to think, I could have spent $50 plus $13 per month for WoW, and probably be getting much less interesting gameplay. That's right Blizzard, EAT IT! YEAH!

I've been around the block a few times and I have to say this is the best server I can find. While it does have a slmall player base it still has plenty of DM interaction and because of the smaller population it has plenty of opportunities for specific attention and character growth.

It is the Abyss. As time passed by, it was becoming more and more like it. You step in, you don't know what is going to happen next, and you don't hope for the best either. _________________________ NWN: The World of Avlis | NWN2: The World of Avlis 2

Go Abyss: 404! This is easily the best server out there.

I can't find fault with the scripting, which if excellent or the great design. Unfortunately, those elements do not a good server make. Unfriendly players and at least one DM who catered to high level people only ruined the experience for me. It's sad to see potential wasted.

Abyss404 is currently one of the most mature servers out there. It is able to keep chalange even without having
perm-death option. Powergaming and metagaming players will
be punished and taught to play true RP.
Artistic design of layer404 is surrealistic and awesome.
Some of the areas are true art of our virtual and postmodern
time.
It is NWN world taken to edge.
Quality gamemasters storylines make Planescape torment feel simple and boring. If you come to play over here, forget anything you have learned about NWN and prepare to meet
your afterlife.

A very unusual and well done world. The scripting is simply masterfull.

There needs to be a 12 step program for all the Abyssaholics this server creates.
Not the largest PW out there, but everything it has is of the highest quailty.
The custom races are awesome, the immersion and quality of the areas is great, the DMs are fantastic, and there are many good role players who call Aybss404 their home.
Just want to say again how great the DMs are. Since its a smaller sized server, and a great group of DMs, there is a lot of interaction between PCs and DMs. You could say there are 'events' everyday, but they aren't so much events as on going plot lines that recieve attention from the DMs every day. Its awesome.

This is not only a well crafted world with great scripting, area builds , etc., it also has the most talented DM crew I have ever come across. They work their tales off to create a rich enviorment for your characters to play in.

Despite the complaints of the one and only person ever banned, I found this server addicting enough to put forth creativity and support. It will not appeal to everyone who wants to be an utter god and bastion of power, but if you seek role playing thats fun, interesting, changing, and so forth, here's your world.
Could you please stop posting on this forum thread. The nature of your posts aren't appropriate.

inspite of the "insane" ramblings of certain people that have been banned from the server...
this place is great, its scripted well.. has dedicated staff and players.. and really feels alive.

Currently I think my character Tyrus Nightfaith is THE only paladin on Abyss, I may be wrong but as of yet I have not seen any, at least none that stuck around to hit level 10. He has very legitimate reasons for being in Abyss and he does not hang out with evil players, at least not if it can be helped. And there are a decent amount of good and neutral characters in the Abyss for even a good character to hang out with, and for those of you who think "Why would good people be in the Abyss" you have to realise that this is not a typical layer of the Abyss, if people actually took the time to read the history they would understand that. The only reason Tyrus actually associates with the evil characters is to learn their plans and find some way to thwart them, hes not a suicidal moron. He's not going to run up and try to attack someone because they are evil. There are plenty of roleplaying oppurtunities for characters of all kinds on this server, the very nature of the layer presents these oppurtunities. Oh and no Saevalles is not a paladin, and any person actually assuming as such needs to get off their lazy butt and do some research before posting.

There is no portal to other worlds. The playing community is not knowledgeable. You are harrassed if you do not play with few. There is not much content. DM's spend most of their time trying to figure out who to remove.
Posted by Saevalles Desirtha ( 64.252.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-06-24 21:20:00
Maybe because he's not a caricature?
Posted by gondath ( 24.207.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-06-24 18:15:00
A paladin can detect evil... uh, why is he hanging out with a chaotic evil person?

Hurray! We have our first official hater on the vault, mister anonymous 148.78.xxx.xxx. His CD key is QC74K6U4, and NWN Playername is "godstuffus".
