Our custom death system uses bleed out rules to allow time for healing before death. When you stabilize, you are returned to 1 hp. To give new players a chance to get used to the server and advance, you suffer no penalty for dying at first level. At second level, you begin to get a 5% penalty to your experience. At third level and above, you also get a 10% penalty to gold on death. You can never lose a level due to dying though. If the experience penalty would take you below the base xp for your current level, you only drop to that base amount of xp and retain your level.

Skald is a great server for those who like to earn what they get. Magic is very common to find but it is scaled pretty well with your current level. There are enough areas to actually make a few character with hardly doing the same thing twice if you choose to.

The Skald is indeed now live (sorry for not posting an update here when we went live). We have made several tweaks lately and are continuing to expand the world.

As a reply for Sajems & all those asking the same question, please register at our forums & post your party needs in there. Since IotDS has players from USA to Finland the timezoning is problem so getting party together needs little bit pre messaging.
However for all those players who start the skald & need people to form party check the Who is Who? thread in Four Heroes hall to get character names for all dev team & couple players. IotDS offers good roleplaying server that even hardcore p&p fan like me need to respect. Beta phase is over and now there is need for players who enjoy rich rp enviroment in world where you need to work for your fortune. Been playing on The Skald since it first came officially online and love it.
Good balance of adventuring and crafting keep things interesting.

The Skald has the right mix of action and RP. While progression is slow, it is not overly difficult or cumbersome. The only thing missing is a larger player base which will hopefully continue to grow. Of course I could be biased since I am involved in building it. ;)

The Inn of the Drunken Skald has everything I wanted in Persistent World. I didn't like others where most players would be max leveled in no time. This world is at a slower pace so when you level, you really feel like you accomplished something. I am glad that I am able to be apart of it.

Its all about playing with others, roleplaying and having fun. Exploring this huge world is amazing, their are so many places to explore, yes it can get you killed, but thats just like DnD you have to be careful. This isent just straight up hack and slash, you need to work as a group and think before just blindly rushing in and attacking the encounters. Even small groups do great and thats what I love about the server, a sense that going out as a group is more important then just going out on your own.

Been playing here since it went live and its a great place. So many places to explore and still have seem much of the world. If you want a challenge on a server with a group (solo not recommended) and not a montypython type game then this is the place for you.

A tough place to wander on one's own ( but it can be done ). An extensive crafting system has been implemented. Huge area still to explore which needs the benefits of a balanced party. Been playing here for quite some time now.

Love the Skald. Huge PW with new content still being added. Not a easy place to solo but it can be done. Made more for group adventures so come on out and try it.

This is a great place to play if you like roleplaying or just a challange I have been playing for a few week I just got lv 4 and I have not even scratched the amount of content on this server.

The Skald is currently still in testing so, it is not as populated as it will be. You can find all sorts of information on our forums. The Skald hak mainly is used to supply additional tilesets since CEP did not include those. The patch to the hak is so that we can update that small file to account for corrections and CEP changes without forcing you to download the entire hak again.
