Please do not use book names, names with profanity, titles (such as Sir or Lord) or names that are not of a fantasy nature, such as 'l337' or 'IHateYouAll'. No Evil PC's. You can be neutral, greedy, whatever. But no pure bent on destruction types. In other words, don't go around attacking the guards / NPC's / PC's randomly and try to call it role-play. You're meant to be the 'good guy' even if it's only due to threat of death by the enemy. Have fun.
Middle Earth is set in Ruhadaur and Arthedain in Third Age 1982, starting at the Last Inn. This is about 1000 years before the events in Lord of the Rings. Currently the Witchking of Angmar's armies are attacking Arthedain from the North and Ruhadaur is all but destroyed. News from the East tells of a mighty evil that has awoken deep in the mines of the Dwarven city of Moria. This terrible evil has caused the Dwarves to flee their mightiest fortress and home. You are one of many that have taken up arms to help stop this dark shadow from spreading across the lands. This is a Low Fantasy server based on J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle Earth. This means several classes & races are restricted from play (see below). This also means there is very limited magic in the world both in Spells and Items. Role-Play is encouraged and rewarded through DM quests but not demanded. There is also a large amount of combat for those that venture forth to fight the shadow. Middle Earth in 'Role-Play'!

Wow, never thought I'd actually find a reference to this server ever again. I played; was highly addicted to this server for a long time. Came across this in the entries and brings back a lot of great memories. Was a server far ahead of its time, and I hope that maybe someday it will be revived. The builder was very true to keeping to the feel of Middle Earth, as the author intended, I believe.

No prestige classes, period.
At any rate, the module hasn't been up for a month. The builder sort of left us on the forums saying, "There's problems" and we haven't heard anything since. Most people have given up, assuming the module is gone.

what about prestige classes? i'd like to start this pw with a dwarven fighter in order to become a dwarven defender later. i don't see how this could interfere with the concept of tolkien's middleearth. does anybody know more about this?

I've been on ME since September 2003 and I must say after searching over 20+ other RP servers this is the one I like to call home. The DM's are open to all suggestions from players to make the server better for everyone. The other players are friendly and helpful. The only downside is that if you don't like low magic and slow leveling (albeit more RP value) this isn't for you. But it is a fine break from the powerful epic servers that seem to all be clones of each other.

I was introduced to ME by a friend when I got NWN, and from then on I have found this to be consistently the best PW available. The people I adventure with and friends I have made make ME a very enjoyable experience every time I visit, and that is ALOT.

As a 6+ month gamer on the ME server... I recommend it highly to anyone who is tired of all the powergamer-ridden, high-powered magic places you can go these days. Wonderful people, great DMs and a fantastic world.

since i started playing NWN online, i've been playing this server, thats about 6-7 months. tried other servers, but none have the community that kept drawing me back to this one. its a very well made mod, very well balanced, and updated lots. suggestions from players are taken into consideration, and i recommend playing here :oD

If you like a good blend of RP and combat, and want to meet some really talented players, come join us! DM's try to run quests as frequently as we can, and we always have fun watching new players learn how to survive in Thristen's world. I played this server for about 5 months. It is a good server. The people who play there are the only reason to stay however. If you like spending 20 years getting to level 20 and only being able to pick 5 classes with no prestiege classes and everyone is a dwarf barbarian or a elf ranger. Then you go ahead. And although the DMs were quick to respond here they are barely in game and almost never give quests. Just my comments :)

I have been playing this server for more than a year, and i still find it among the best i have played....
the players community are generally helpful and always willing to lend a helping hand.
i personally enjoyed the process of adventuring with a bunch of close-knitted friends u got to know in the server and trying to hunt for some treasure...
and quests! i remembered once i was leading a quest during the early days of the server.... heck there were 10-13 players in the quest, had a tuff time coordinating everyone but hey it was fun.....
The experience i had in this server and the friends i get to know will always remain a special part in me always......

I started playing this Mod/server 2 years ago, and now am playing (sometimes) and DM it. It's a fairly challenging server with lots of emphasis on basic combat tactics and class/leveling awareness. Since it's a low magic server (it's Middle Earth you know) you do not have overtly powerful players solo-ing balrogs for fun. I love the server because of it's "family" atmosphere and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Although most of the players come from USA, we also have a good portion who are from Europe and Asia, we have a good number from the Scandavian regions too. It's a great server, many have left it only to return because it's simple to play and you always can find a friend there.

I started playing this server ages ago, and it's horrifically addicting at first. I had a ton of fun with it, until the people I knew hit 20th and left. Expansion of the mod is on the slow side, but when new areas come in, they're generally worth the wait. The leaning towards realism (for the most part) and holding true to Tolkien's work sets this one apart from the other LOTR servers I've played on.
It's definitely worth looking at, if you're a big fan of hack'n'slash. Apparently RP is being rewarded now, which would be a nice change, but I wasn't around the server for that. :)
The custom scripting is nice, but I tend to get a lot of lag on the server.

Hello everyone! I'm a current Dm on Middle Earth, and I seriously recommend playing here. A good mixture of RP and fighting gives you one of the best servers to play on. The community is great, the best I've seen anywhere. So, come on in and have a good time!
