Player Requirements
Must enjoy the roleplaying aspects of D&D. Being community oriented is a big plus. Maturity required.
Welcome to the wild lands of Narfell, a country rife with excitement, intrigue, and above all, adventure. Narfell strives to bring a table top feel to the Neverwinter Nights engine, providing chances for deep roleplaying and intricate plot lines in a world that is constantly in motion. One of the longest running NWN PWs, we believe in a principle of open entry; as such Narfell uses no haks and has no passwords. Anyone that seeks to roleplay and opens their imagination is welcome to join the server.
Narfell is home to a number of cities, each with their own histories and personalities forged from canon and built over the multiple years the server has been active. Ancient fortresses, monster infested forests, sprawling mountains, and plains filled with the wreckage of an age old war all await your exploration. Narfells player base and DM team are a varied group of RPers, giving the potential for high adventure experiences to deep political roleplay and everything in between.
NWN Version is 1.69, no Haks are required.
The server is Full PvP, with caveats. Subdual PvP requires DM authorization, or that both parties agree to fight. Lethal PvP is available only with prior DM authorization.
The server utilizes a 'Citizen Token' system to identify those who seek to become part of the community and prove to be responsible players, to help minimize the potential for griefers and exploiters upon the server.
The world is always changing due to both DM plots and player actions. Frequent module updates make those changes come to life. Surprises are always on the horizon.
A full overview of the land of Narfell can be found in our Players Handbook located at Link

I've been playing on Narfell for 5 years now, its a great PW with a great community and friendly staff. In my 5 years I have often tried out other various PW, but have always returned to Narfell. It offers the closest thing to a PnP experience I can find online, and the RP from the players is excellent.
The DMs do an excellent job of entertaining players with events and adventures and the Devs are constantly looking for ways to improve on the servers world and design.
If you are looking for a place where you can be rewarded for much more than mindless spawn hunting then I would suggest you come check out Narfell.

I've been playing on Narfell since 2006. When asked to describe what it is like, I always reply: "Imagine playing a PnP game with a bunch of really good RPers. Now imagine that instead of being able to get those people together only once a week or once a month, that they are available 24/7/365. That's Narfell." _________________________ PW Story server Narfell - Since 2002

I have been playing Narfell since 2002 when NWN first came out. The world has undergone many changes in that time. But one thing is for sure, this is the best place to play. The community, both players and staff together is great. All in all, I am happy to have spent so much of the past 8 years playing here. _________________________ The trout, the whole trout, and nothing but the trout. So help me Cod.

I remember this server. Good times, good times.
Sadly the server has quiet a few 'limits' as I would call them on low level characters. There is also a slight bit of favoritism, though only slight, but what disturbed me when I first played here my first week I would commonly receive threats from DMs... after that I actually had alot of fun with the players and while the staff seem to get a hold of themselves, the playerbase is friendly.
Many enjoyable ingame events too. I remember an archery competition I was in once. I also played as both good and evil characters. Its nice that events and character variability is allowed.
This is a good server, and the only things that could improve it would be friendly staff, more equality, additional realism to the cities, and friendlyness to noobies. Even after several months here I was basically a super noober. Very little help for people... even from some players in that regard. _________________________ @===============================================@
Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.
This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

My comments are no longer applicable.
The world, in this player's opinion, has moved to the polar opposite of the comments I posted in 2005.
Everything changes with time.

Alot of things have changed on this server. Its still here, thats the important thing. The place has its good and and bad points, but every server does.
Probably the largest change on the server is that Masume, the original designer and the one that posted the server here, is no longer involved.
Also, the server has upgraded its connection to dual t1's, so lag is usually quite low.
The majority of players are from the west coast of the US, though it still has some european and australian players as well.

This is a much better version of what Arabel should have been like. DMs show less favoritism and griefing is less encouraged.
Narfell is a joy and nightmare all wrapped into one crazy and exciting adventure. The players are consistantly in character and there is always a good time to be had.
There are several new things going on within the community and there may be a few "broken" things but I can assure you, if you are looking for RP and a challenge, roll up a new character here and set out for fun.
Be patient and learn the finer points of the server and you will quickly grow to enjoy it far better than any other server out there.
Come and play and have fun! _________________________ Viva Narfell!!!!

Overall a module well formed in every way. Sadly the server dose suffer from some 'coruption', players holding sway with DM's are often aloud to get away with act's most other DM's would call player griefing or powergaming RP motives. Tightening the nose on player griefers and perhaps adding some more detail to the various areas of Narfell would go along way.

The player base if fun, the world suits it's needs (without any extra 'oooh' or 'aaah', though), but the administration seriously needs to rethink it's strategy.
I was just banned because I was a suspect in the hacking of a DMs account, when every log they have shows that I have not even been online in relation to the server, it's forums, or it's chatroom in about a week. Also, all attempts of mine to get this fixed, have been met with stoney silence by the only one who can remove the ban.
The main plot currently in effect, in the words of a current player, seem to be designed to draw players away. Instant death by unmarked crystals thrown across the main roadway between towns.
The creator has never played as an actual character, so he has no actual insight into what it is like to actually *play* on his server. And any criticism (no matter how constructive), is seen as bad, and thus censored.
If you want to just ignore anything about the Out of Character pieces of the server, jump right in, and have a fun Roleplaying experience. But if you actually think about a server as more than just a place to play a character, you will be sadly disillusioned...

Wonderful server with a great DM staff and player community. Has had me hooked for over 2 years now

I've played on Narfell for two years now. The quality of RP from just run-of-the-mill players is excellent, meaning that this server is fun even when there's no DM around.
Sure it's difficult, but that's sort of the barrier that keeps the twits from hanging around too long (though admittedly the server must lose a few good RPers who wish it were easier).
DM events range from brutal, crushing Orc raids on the surrounding towns to intricate and well thought out traps/tricks/strategy-required.
In addition, the web site at Link is full of rich descriptions and player-generated content to fill in gaps and storylines. A person could have a good time just reading stuff in the forum Tales By the Fire.
If you enjoy Role Play _and_ combat, I urge you to give Narfell a try. Might take you a few characters to get the hang of it. But it's worth it.
As of July 2005 a good starting town would be either Peltarch (the largest city in Narfell) or Jiyyd (a small farming town and home to many warrior types).

10 - Alot of people have put a whole lot of work into this world and it shows. Very creative, trying to be as true to PnP experience as they can get. A great community of players and staff.

The world of Narfell is like an acquired taste; once you're gotten the hang of it, you'll be hooked. Of course, it's not all daisies here in Narfell. It's meant to be as faithful and realistic to Pen-and-Paper as possible. Which means that you shouldn't use the same play style you did in the Official Campaign nor on other servers. And prepare to role-play your pants off. ;)
To me, this server does have its problems, be they implementation of scripts, or Out-of-Character issues, but the Developers are hard at work behind the scenes to smoothen the experience, and the DMs do try to chip in with temporary solutions until they are done.
But aside from the minor inconviniences, you'll rapidly come to appreciate the one-of-a-kind world that Narfell presents to you. Moreover, the major pluses of the server include:
1. Not having to download specialised hak-paks to join in the fun
2. No sign-up processes; just come on in!
3. Most of all, having a diverse, mature and dynamic community, who range from the newest newbie to PnP veterans!
Therefore I encourage you to give this server a try. At first you may be discouraged, but just stick it through, make a few friends or even find a mentor, and you'll be sure to discover for yourself how engaging Narfell is!
See you inside!

Even a bad day of Narfing beats... anything else I've ever played.
The world is huge, sometimes deadly, richly and imaginatively designed. While the challenge level can take some getting used to, once you actually learn to choose your parties well and take your tactics into account, and drag yourself up to lvl 3 or soo... it's sooo much more rewarding than mindlessly butchering cake-ass goblins in an endless spawn loop.
But that doesn't really touch at all on what make Narfell great, which is the peple. From the DMs who spin up great plot arcs (or sometimes just a littel something fun on the spot), the Devs who devote their time to adding custom content and play-blancing in an effort to guild this lilly and keep the community satisfied as best they can, down to the wide and wild variety of PCs, each bringing a littel something special to the mix. I didn't really understand RP until I came to this server... it was an intense crash-course, and it really taught me the value of investing time into properly fleshing out your character, making all those non-combat attributes oh-so-worthwhile.
If you want a nice challenge, and a great community to RP in with a good balance of action, I can't think of any server I'd recommend over this one.

Have been on Narfell for a year and a half now, have to say I havent been on a better server for Quality RP

Best thing about this server is the community. It accepts all kind of weird characters, as long as they're not munchkin characters. Usually you're even able to find companions and friends, and enjoy a good time with those, too. In short, great community.
It's advisible to (first) play a nice, fighter-type character, because they have a higher survivability.

If you want RP.. not a better server I have found. The community and playerbase is what keeps this world kicking.

Over these past few years, games have come and gone... Great games even, games that took up many hours of my time. But I find that the one thing I keep coming back to when I'm sick and tired of those, which always happens, is Narfell.
I had always been sort of oblivious to DnD and roleplaying. But even then I had always wished I could find a decent game that actually did allow you to roleplay your character. Narfell pretty much became that for me. I've been playing Narfell for around 3 years now... But my only character to have stuck around has been there for about 2, and I've never looked back. ;)
It's a stable server with a great community and playerbase. The roleplay is the best I've seen around, which may not be saying much because it was actually on this server that i first learned to roleplay.
The builders have done a 'great' job with area design, the towns are diverse enough with their own highs and lows, providing an atmosphere suitable for nearly any character you could create... The low magic setting is ideal too. Magical items are highly valued and coveted, as they should be.
From what I've seen the DM interaction is very active, constantly whipping up new plots and adding to the depth of the server. Their judgements are also, for the most part, fair.
My only complaint and the one thing that keeps Narfell from getting a perfect score from me. Is that I believe the server maintains a 'way' too conservative attitude than is necessary. It took too long to update to each of the expansions in my opinion, too long for a lot of things that were, or soon to be implemented. I would really love to see the use of HAK's such as the CEP and Combat Animations. I plan to continue playing on this server until the day they take it down, I'll be crossing my fingers.

A great place to roleplay if you never worry about the out of character aspects, if you try to get involved the with any of the politics or other things that have nothing really to do with the game itself, you will sorely become disillusioned, but hey, if you just want to roleplay, it's the best you can find

Constantly changing and evolving. Challenging throughout, no matter what the level.
DM staff is great, the plots excellent.
Highly recommended.

A wonderful dynamic server, and it just gets better everyday as the old players gets better, and the new ones manages to learn the joy and funness in RPing.
With a group of great DMs and playerbase along with administration, you will have a great time if you are a serious mature gamer if you give this server a chance :)

My umm... bit over two years on Narfell have been great.
Behind my screen, I have been laughing and crying due to IG happenings.
DM events on the server are great, but it's the other players and the community that are the best sides of Narfell.

Played for about a year, and quite frankly have no compliants. Community is excellent, DM staff works probably far more then they should. I think the biggest hurdle is that to have fun here you need to go out and find it, if you don't put any effort in you won't get anything out of this server. Be proactive, so I command!

It's not perfect, but nothing is. Though the server is great for players that would rather focus on the roleplay aspects of character development over pure stats.

The Narfell server is an incredible evolution of years of development, player contribution, and brilliant administration. Though the areas are beautifully designed and the community is a fantastic example of online friendship, I will always play here for the sheer roleplaying talent. I've played all over, and I've never seen it's like.
