Oh another thing, it is no longer the masterful blend of pvp and rp it once was. It is heavy roleplay now, and only very light, controlled, pvp.

I played on orb for over 5 years. It was a good server long ago, but it has been degressing. There are a lot of nice things, like subraces, custom items(awarded by dm token achievement), and other staff awarded rewards. However if you fear clique's, and dm favortism among the cliques, stay away from this server. If you are not in their clique, you wont actually get any of those nice things available on the server. They even deleted one of the characters of 5 years against my will. So, beware, very cliquish, and as someone else stated, it is very much a DM's playground. So if you do go there, make sure you get on the staffs good side right off the bat, or else.

Like a lot of PW, I see no originality with this one.

And I just realized, maybe I should have voted way back in April last year, when I a)first posted here, and b)was still (again? Can't recall) more-or-less a fully-active player

Posting for the sake of voting, but I'll leave a real comment too.
The server is great, with lots of variety in both players, locations, and quests. The maintainers/DMs/Admins are...as good (as in 'nice, kind') as can be expected from someone with nigh-absolute power in the gameworld and the usual annoyances of PW DMs. The playerbase, for the most part, is friendly, and newbie-friendly (when they see you around).
There are some minor annoyances that take away from a perfect score (particularly, for me, the fact that I rarely run into anyone but NPCs, but I figure that's due in part to my lowbie status), but there's so much more that raises it to: a 9.5 out of 10.

This is a good place to be. _________________________ I think the GPS Navigation things in new cars shouldn't have that woman's voice, but the voice of the HAL 9000 from 2001 Space Odyssey.

I can't get over the feeling this PW is still mostly a playground for staff, which is a problem not exclusive to them. On the bright side it's relatively easy to get on staff - I should know, I was on staff for longest continuous stretch of all. The server is pretty heavy on PvP to the point of seeming like an arena-server at times, described at one time as "mix between PvP and RP server". Unfortunately this leads to the RP crowd getting preyed upon by the powergamer crowd. Though the slowly tightening server rules have now curbed that behaviour, RP crowd is now much more likely to get ridiculed or plain ignored. Though "encounter rebalance" has been on agenda almost as long as the PW's been up, very little has been done about it due to various political reasons - the end result is that out of the hundreds of areas on the server, only a handful are worth ever going to. XP system is unforgiving of party level differences to stop high-levels from just leveling up their buddies, though this makes it fair, it makes leveling up with your buddies almost impossible. Item power-level is through the roof with stores, custom items and enchanting-system allowing weapons stacked with up to 100k worth of damage-dealing properties and people often have their saves or skills capped from item bonuses. True Seeing, Time Stop, IGMS and Bigby's are nerfed to the point of obsoleteness, which is a boon to HipS builds and people who're sick of mages "owning" on stock spells. Certainly an action-packed server (when there are people on that aren't out farming) if you're into that kind of stuff, though.

Orb is simply the deepest Player Made world i have encountered, keeps me coming back!

I believe there can't be perfect union between RP and PvP, but orb comes very close.

It should be mentioned that if you are choosing a subrace that is supported you will get subrace skin and other subrace abilities automatically.
If you write an unsupported subrace, or a subrace that requires an application (all the info is on the OOA forum and in the area where you start on OOA) you will be unable to gain exp.
Simply put, we don't support unsupported subraces.

I have to say I am very disappointed with this server. While the *content* is top-notch, the very poor and unsupportive attitude by at least one of the DM's has insured that I will not be returning, nor recommending it to anyone. Upon logging in for the first time, I experienced a legitimate bug in the scripting that would not allow me to level up. Upon bringing this to a DM's attention (in a very polite manner), I was ridiculed and made to feel like I wasn't worth the DM's time. Whoever this DM was needs to seriously re-think their role on the server or else step down. I'm sure I'm not the only potential new player that Orb Of Abrogation has lost due to this DM's immaturity. It's rather sad, really.

I (NWN username: OmegaX2) love this server. I've left NWN many times in the past, and always, Orb keeps me coming back for more.

I have played on the orb for a long time now and it has managed to keep me around, a very good PW. (And the is now around 17 members of staff and not 9)

Despite being new to PWs and such, i can honestly say Orb shows plenty of promise and potential. The world is quite rich in detail. Wonderful subraces (quite balanced too) Interesting pantheon (room for more though!) And not to mention great playerbase. There are some folks who care to maintain the RP atmosphere of the world, which is something i truly appreciate. Lastly, the staff members of this world are quite active and committed. Cheers to them for making a wonderful world.

The orb is without a doubt one of the best Player Worlds around, The staff and the players are great, and once you join you won't want to leave!

Orb is a server that masterfully blends the hack and slash elements of the game and the roleplay elements of the game. There is a level cap of 30, which allows players to gain a large amount of power without it being a ridiculous amount of power (ie level 40).
There are mixtures of ooc and ic fun. Usually, if boredom is claiming someone, a party can be found just for the sake of conversation. The playerbase has a normallu pleasant attitude, though there is of course the inevitable bickering that occurs everywhere.
It sort of comes out to this -
- Orb has the downs that every server has (and I have tried a -lot- of roleplay servers.)
- Orb has all the ups that every server has, and more.
An example being the unique crafting system, rather than a fighter bashing a hammer for hours upon hours, on orb there are recipes that can be used to create magical items, or to further enchant existing items, and it finds a use for the craft armor and craft weapon skills.
Another good thing is the unique custom item system. Players can create items that are completely unique by sending them in to the developer who handles the customs. It's a really neat setup!
Orb has so many things that I enjoy, I hardly notice the negative things.

The only strength that I see this world having is a really fun group of players. The DM's are often openly hostile and are far from being a good working team. The areas lack balance (get yourself friends fast or die), and many persistent quests are broken. Lots of potential there, but at the moment no better than average. Keep working at it, and I will pop through again after a while and see how things are going.

I've been on Orb for many, many months, and I just can't play anywhere else. The environment is so rich, and the staff and playerbase is wonderful. Player driven stories and factions are supported and often encouraged.
I think what keeps me coming back time and again is the flexibility and ability to be so creative and unrestricted in your stories. As long as you are responsible and mature, you have a plethora of opportunities.
Just stop in and you'll see for yourself. :)

After playing on many, many, many servers in every category from PWStory to Roleplaying to PWAction I can definately say Orb is the best server out there. Balancing power with roleplay and fun with rules it manges to capture the attention of all those who come its way. Having everything I was looking for in a server, it balances neatly in between some of the other servers in the genre while still having a unique form all its own. Many have tried to duplicate it, but none have even come close. The absolute best server to be found in the PWStory section, make sure you stop by the server, and the forums for a bit more info. You won't be disapointed.

I play and help develop this world, and have had fun the entire year and a half there. While there are problems(a nod to Nhulthazak), overall I like OoA the best. I really enjoy discussing the addition of new features with the other players and staff.

I played on this server for more than a year, and despite not being very well liked I definitely enjoyed every minute of being logged on to Orb. When I think of Neverwinter Nights I think of this server, and it wasn't even the first server I played on, nor the one I played the longest on. Orb stands out because it's the one I had the most fun on. It's a server that has something for everybody, and it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll enjoy your time spent here. One of its biggest assets is the subraces, which let you roleplay your character as something unique, and adds lots of interesting scenarios to the server.
Sometimes Orb is like a good movie, and I remember many times where I would just sit by the fountain in the town square and watch everyone else. There are definitely some great roleplayers here, and that is the biggest attraction. You'll soon grow attached to the familiar faces, and it's noticeable when some of the better players aren't online.
A hard working, clever DEV team is constantly adding to the server, and most of the changes are put into effect by polling the players on what they would like to see.
Now, the negative. In my time playing here I've had my share of experiences with all types of players, and I have to say I've never seen worse attitudes. Someone is always complaining, someone is always whining, someone is always flaming another player and plain old bickering is more frequent than drawing breath. I've never seen more arrogant, self-centered, unhelpful bullies before in my life, and despite the good roleplay you can only take so many "hate letters" in your forum inbox, attacks on MsN and over e-mail, and flat out harassment in game.
They have policies on all of that, but sadly, nothing was ever done, and after seeing a friend of mine go through the same thing because a DM gave her a gift the players all screamed foul and demanded "fairness" it was sort of the last straw and I left for about the 4th time. Players who openly insult others in game and on the forums, harass, abuse, and kill other players in game are also players who are considered "veterans" and ambassadors, and who, oddly enough, have special subraces and status within the game. Despite the rules saying characters with application subraces who receive strikes will have their subrace revoked, many players exploit bugs and harass players while being Kings of Cities or important figures in the game world, and receive nothing but a slap on the wrist.
The biggest problem with this server is that in general, to create a fair and balanced game, the players are brought DOWN to the same level instead of UP. Rather than have everyone good at something, they make every class as useless as the rest, and multiclassing is strictly governed and has sets of rules.
Another downside is that while this server may have something for everyone, you also have to take a bit of everything. You might only be here for roleplay, but it's guaranteed you'll be killed by another player, or have other negative situations forced on you. Trying to protect yourself from those occurances is often called "rules lawyering", so in the end everyone puts up with eachother's +blocked+ and whines, flames, and rants on the forums instead.
Until the day a few specific players leave, I won't be playing here anymore, no matter how badly I miss the roleplay.

When I think of Neverwinter Nights I think of this server. Definitely the best.

I am one of the oldest players on the server, as I have been here since about 2-3 months after the game first came out. While some of the negativeas that were posted in the comments are true, oin a whole the entire staff does try hard to make this the best experience you can have in a computer rpg environment.
THe biggest testament to OOA would have to be , that I have tried other servers.. and I am Still Here.
I played on the server for a number of months, and I had fun, but after a while it grew boring and I found other servers to capture my attention. Like many servers, they claim that the world is shaped around the players, but that just isn't true. The world barely changes, they're might be one long DM quest that affects the main story, but after it is over it's forgotten and whatever affect it had is gone.
Also, I found that the players are sometimes too up tight. Almost any time there is PvP, somebody complains on the forums and a three page flame war ensues. Too many people are concerned about being the most powerful player or at the least, making sure they are on the same level as everyone else. If a DM grants a bonus to a player who deserves it, several other players become angry and shout favourtism...
The main idea of the server is pretty good, but it's the players who drag it down. If you are looking for some fun, I'd suggest this server, just don't expect the fun to last.
