In a far distant time, when the multiverse was new formed, the various planes and dimensions were linked and minions from each were free to travel at will between them through gateways that formed where the physical manifestations of the planes intersected each other.
One such gateway existed in a place that shall forever be known as Shadow Mountain where a prime material plane intersected with the Plane of Shadow. It was here that many ancient wars were fought and the gods themselves were almost deposed. Heroes of both light and darkness battled the minions of the shadow realms and their allies until a messenger of the gods, Brodram, stepped forth into the breach sealing both sides and trapping himself for all eternity in the void between worlds.
Such events have passed into myth and legend in the world where lives are measured in brief years but not so in the Realms of Shadow. Their defeat at the hands of mortal servants of petulant deities has festered like a sore, oozing with hatred and the lust for revenge.
While in the world of mortals great heroes continue to battle with allies of the shadow realm, trapped here during those events many millennia past and not subject to mortal law. Malevolent and undying, in defeat they are banished only until their essence reforms.

This is a great server. I like the socket system and the rebirth system. I think the events are really fun, but what keeps me playing on this server are the players. They are the friendliest group of players I have seen on any server. Oh, and the dms are nice people too.

Shadow Mountain Is very comfortable friendly place to be. Everyone there are terrific people. You can enjoy the game and people with great ease. The dm run events are fantastic and alot of fun. The atmosphere is verry nice.

This is a fantastic server that has been well thought out and coded brilliantly. The DM's are fair and really do concern themselves with your issues. I very highly recommend this server.

Shadow Mountain is one of the earliest NwN game worlds, rich in custom systems (including unique socket equipment and rebirth powers) and with great people both staff and players. It is a rare world with a range of play styles and a tolerance towards the styles of others. It is an extensive and complex world with 800+ areas across 3 continents and great CEP 2.2 content (no further haks required). The BEST NWN server I've found since 2002 (and this also includes the one I used to rule by myself). Not only it offers many hundreds of areas to explore, extremely well-tuned-CR creatures and unique systems (guilds, socketed items, rebirths,...), but the DM's & playerbase I've met made a REAL difference. And now it offers a near-professional Player's Handbook, as a bonus!!!
Try "Shadow Mountain" if you love NWN. You'll probably decide to stay... as I did myself half a year ago.

WOW.. A players handbook!!!! Never have i seen a handbook for a mod before. Great work Tyndrel . Again the staff keeping the mod fresh and exciteing for the player base. this mod is simply a 10 all the way.

The number of quests has grown and there are also regular DM-run events (2-3 times a week). "Hot Dice" and "Let's Make a Deal" feature a gameshow-like atmosphere and "Friday Night Fights" (FnF) is a more typical arena-type event.
Still my favorite server NWN1 server!

Our man Tyndrel has been hard at it updating areas with a fresh look, with sloping hills, redesigned areas, removing obsolete areas, and adding new ones. Official count for areas, all used in one way or another, is 770 areas.
We have integrated buffing rods, to reduce buff time. Have multiple script driven DM event games. We have developed a helms off script allowing for players to enjoy the benefits of a helm but still show their lovely heads.
And several more nifty things lately.
Currently we are developing a Sanctioned PVP system.

I came to this server in mid '05, as a player. I had a bit of xp as host/builder on a PW before hand. I played for bout 9 months, and got on the build team. From there moved to DM. I am still here as player/dm. This is truly a friendly place to play. Our staff is here to present a good time to the players, over 800 areas, many, many scripted quest, some repeatable. I've played many servers, but this is by far the best one yet. The socketing and rebirth systems are truely an innovative approach to enhance your gameplay experience. The DMs and greater majority of players are very friendly and always eager to help the beginners. Be warned though, if you come to Shadow Mountain, you won't ever leave.

Shadow Mountian is constantly growing and changing. New content is added often. I enjoy the socketing system which adds another level of play that enhances the server even more.
The PVP play keeps things interesting and adds a level of a unknown spice to the server that will keep your your interest.
If you enjoy the quest or the challenge of conquering a rivial guilds territory this is a great place to journey.

Shadow Mountain has grown and is evolving all the time. Constantly adding new content. We have a dedicated story/event DM on staff. We have a great rebirth system that allows for huge replayabilty and longevity. Now over 700 areas to explore. Player run guilds with claimable territories add to the atmosphere and immersion.
Additional quests have been added with more in the works.
Great fun with a playerbase that is actually still growing :)

I've been on Shadow Mountain for nearly a year now. It is not only dynamic and vibrant but the players make it what it is: The best server out there. New players are almost always greeted and welcomed by a DM or any number of veteran players. If you're an RPer that aspect of NWN isn't absent here either..in fact it is growing. Come check it out. You won't be disappointed. Active DM's, loyal player base, guilds, PvP, quests, unique story, all make this a place apart.

I have been playing at shadow mountain on and off for probably a year. I must say it is by far the greatest server I have ever been to. There is a lack of player rp here...but that should not be blamed on the server. There is even a new DM qho does quests alot now. I LOVE the socketing. You can make almost any item you could want! Hack and slash is frequent but betweent he in game quests and the dm events there are plenty of things to keep lil ol me busy. My one complaint of recent is the lack of a good sized player base. I remeber many more heads on the norm a while back...Maybe NWN is just fading out all together?
