In the wake of the War of the Dead, competing factions are positioning to gain advantage even as they struggle to rebuild. Distracted by their self-interests, the forces of law and order have allowed piracy to reach a level unseen in many years, and let old evils creep back out of the dark swamps and caves. For the decent folk of the land these are dark times. For those on the side of darkness there is....opportunity.
ToA is a persistent world that is continually updated as it grows and changes. Our DM staff runs frequent large- and small-scale quests, working directly with players on plots & storylines to guide the growth and direction of the server. With over 750 areas (and growing) the Tears is huge, with endless possibilities for exploration and adventure. We've used the latest version of the CEP, as well as our own hakpak compilation, to produce a world that is stunning and magnificent.

Been with ToA a while now. Always had good experiences with the DMs and players. Campagins are terrific and very involving.

An amazing crew of dedicated players and DM's make ToA one of the best roleplay experiences out there. However, the player count is rather low so it is better to join scheduled games to meet large crowds. I definitely recommend the server.

Good all around rp-ing. Helpful and friendly server...

This world has the best combination of player base and dm staff that I have ever run across.

I adore ToA. If you haven't played yet, you haven't really role played.

Very pretty world. Not extremely popular, so it can be hard to find others to play with. Leveling is very slow and travelling alone can be very dangerous. The DMs are nice and run quests, although I have never been able to get in on one.

As an old-school PnP player, I have to say that TOA is the best computer approximation I have seen. In some ways, it's better. The game world and background stories are rich in detail and diversity. The DMs are talented, entertaining, and very interactive with the players. The players are fun and enthusiastic as well. TOA is a great overall roleplaying experience.

This is by far the best I have played and seen so far. Others boast alot about their creations. But then you connect and no one is on it or things aren't working or the "Roleplaying" is no where to be found. ToA's world is made like a world would be made. Not just a chain of areas to get you through some quests. And their server isn't laggy either...go figure!
I have chatted and played with alot of them and have yet to meet a non-helpful person yet. The thing I like the most is how personable they all are. All of em are quick to get ot know new ppl.
PWMadness....
If you actually go somewhere to "Roleplay", how long do you think it would take you to get to lvl 40. When I ran D&D, it took almost a year to get to 20th and we all had a blast. This world is based on that kind of gameplay...you should give it a try. You can always play others as well!

A fine game world with interesting players and baffling plots. Be wary of Low Key he is arbitrary and moody.

ToA has some of the best players and DMs around, and the module shows off solid building skills. With a variety of builders there is a variety of islands, each with a unique flavor. The house rules and systems are tougher than NWN out of the box, but not overly hardcore. They serve to add some detail and flavor without becoming a burden, & I end up missing those touches when I play other modules. If you want a roleplaying world that's built well, this is it. _________________________ NWN Shield Reskins Link New Small Shields Link

In my comment, I admit I have forgotten one element.
I have to give credit to the DMing skills of the DMs. Many times I have had a blast playing with them. To tell stories and control players, they are good.

I've played a few servers, this is by far the best when it comes to RP and DM's actally having fun with the players. If you have a problem you can actually talk things out with them. AKA they do listen and if you have a valid point they'll do what they can to correct the problem.
Mostly though the thing I like the best is that you can have evil characters and good characters and it's not black and white. The characters are very defined and have very indepth personalitys. They have flaws and advantages that simply come from the personalitys them selfs that don't translate into to numbers or stats.
It makes playing a lot more fun when the other player characters are very much in character. It's almost like watching a movie but you get to ad-lib the dialog.

I feel compelled to reply to what I believe is a vote cast out of sheer malice & spite.
Kaworu has logged more than 300 hours on the server, been involved in many DMed events, and always had nothing but the highest praise for ToA and it's DMs. Yet after 6 months of enjoying the fruit of all our hard work, he only bothered to vote today, and cast a negative vote. Why?
Because Kaworu's buddy was banned yesterday. ToA has been around for 2 years, and he was the first person ever banned. He was banned for abusive language to other players, and we don't allow that.
BTW, the campaign schedules are open to all who wish to join, and are the focus of DM activity over the slow summer season. _________________________ Live fast, die young, and leave a lootable corpse.

Great HAKs, good area builds, some interesting players.
However, from some highly involved players, Hypocrisy Meter is rather high. Some people also get banned from server and forums for no justifiable reasons.
Also, between what they call "campaign schedules", unlike some on the forums say, there's nobody online. That means the server's empty all the week but on a few preset times.

An amazingly detailed server with a highly dedicated player base & a responsive DM staff. Frequent coverage and fun scripted stuff to do. Challenging as all heck, but worth it! _________________________ Live fast, die young, and leave a lootable corpse.

ToA is an amazing PW whose DMs are very skilled storytellers, one of the greatest advantages is that stories develop depending on player actions rather than being linear.

I love playing here, DMs are top notch and the players as well. Despite the level cap, there has never been any problem with people's ablitiy to do great things, you just have to be more imaginative and creative.

As the server hostess of Tears of Artorin, I can tell you that alot of heart and care and a couple of years of building and thought went into this world. The concept, before anyone knew it, started way-way back in the days of Stone Talon where I was just a neebie. After that many of the old timers from then moved on to other world and then final found themselves building ToA.
The people that DM and the players that put the trust of their charactors at their mercey are 100% about role playing. They-DMs will take you on adventures and challenge you in thought and deed. You will travel to lands from the very civilized, to the frozen and forlone, to the savage and uncultured, and if you dare to a place where the undead are in the majority. seas are not safe from those that will take your gold or your life.
Yet for those dangers that you may face, many hours of RPing and good humor is found in the discovering the culture, politics, looking for that weapon you can call your own, or discovering what intrigue lays within the shadows looking for what ever may present itself.
Is the yound women there to intice you into something you dare not do, or is the old man there to protect you. OR do they both have a hidden agenda.
Come and see where the winds of the seas will take you as you discover Tears of Artorin.

A veteran DM and developer staff awaits you here. We strongly encourage roleplaying, and reward it handsomely. Adventuring is dangerous, but fun. While your PC must fit within our creation guidelines, we try to make every effort to support a PC's personal agenda...setting up illegal trade routes, building temples, bartering alilances (and breaking them), working for good, evil, or both.
If you desire a server that is expansive, immersive, diversive, challenging, and rewarding...this is the place for you.

This is the PW that got me hooked on NWN.... got me into playing, building, DMing, everything! This server is tight!Non hokey, low-magic, historical setting. You won't see any PC's running around as drow or half-dragons, just good old fashioned old school DnD. Non-standard custom items/creatures are the norm, no ugly canned NWN armor or goofy looking orcs. This server feels like a real world, not another corner of Forgotten Realms. So if you're looking for a gritty, swashbuckling, morally grey, roleplay centered and challenging server, give ToA a go
