Dang! What's with all the anonymous commets recently. I am curious how long each of you have played on Winterhaven. Like any server, we do have bad months.
I've played there since it started and was later a staff member. I don't play much anymore, as I'm far too busy to commit time to NWN.
However, just let me say that this is, bar none, the best RP server around. I'm talking just about the quality of the role play. As its open and welcome to all, there are some safeguards to protect the established and preferred playing types. the staff works very hard to accomodate all types of well thought out characers. It irks me that some of the comments left here were so direct against the staff, when the staff wastes most of their time being to nice and trying to accomodate players ( a reason I'm no longer on the staff .
Basically, if you want a great PnP flavored roleplaying experience with interesting, quirky characters, combined with bueatiful areas and dungeons that are ever-changing, then this is your best bet, IF you have something to contribute.
If you want to munchkin your way to lvl 40 with your half-fiend/half-drow "Change the server to fit ME" character, maybe you should try somewhere else.

Just to reply to what (129.15.xxx.xxx) said... Yes, before you play here, go read their forums. Notice how many are leaving, and why they are leaving. You'll find a common theme.
Just keep in mind, these server-wreckers will just have new userids for NWN2, so, by all means READ THEIR FORUMS before you play! (and after you read their forums, you will not play).
Now, DMs, get in there and delete those threads! Police police, just like W!

Well, this is a server that was started from an old group that used to run World of Palladium (Now run by Joe Swartley). That old group ran World of Palladium into the ground, and alienated 75% of the player base that wasn't also a DM. They came to Winterhaven, trying to start over, but lo and behold, the leopards did not change their spots, and the same problems that they had at World of Palladium are being repeated like clockwork at Winterhaven.
Like Joe Swartley said, Derkus and Autorobot are absolutely EXCELLENT world builders, hands down some of the most interesting writers I've played on, but they are also very bad metagamers. Autorobot was known on World of Palladium as Waffles, and he metagamed with his new ID just as bad as he did with his old one.
Avoid this server, unless you're a masochist. The DMs are just taking yet another world and running it into the ground with their arrogance, belligerence, and their "Don't take it to the forums because we'll look like the jackasses that we are" coverups.

I just wanted to say that I've been on this server from almost the beginning (11/2003)and I'm still playing there. Yes, it is designed exquisitely. Yes, it is a serious RP server that just feels alive. But, what's kept me coming back is the spectacular community.

Draconian DMs, lackluster RP most of the time, and enough drama to make a Spanish soap opera blink.
Tried this place several times because the zone design is very impressive, and it presents a good RP environment.. However the DM staff drive it into the ground with their general apathy towards promoting the RP directly, and the playerbase does the same by the endless bickering about one silly topic or another. I recommend reading their forums first before diving in just yet.

Since the recent upgrade of the Server
this has become a great place to play. Excellent RP and difficulty, and lag has become a non-issue.

A lot to like about this server including:
- A great setting and atmosphere
- nice custom AI for the monsters
- well thought out death settings that get the balance right
- levelling involving having to seek out a trainer which makes levelling more RP focused
- interesting dungeon design
- a good number of DMs
- a complete absence of silly evil psychopath characters :)

Mediocre server? I am sorry but haks do not make a server in any way or form. The scripting and design of the areas are what makes the server good. There is tons of adventure to partake in and the community involved is great. Many seasoned roleplayers and many who are just starting out. Despite the lack of haks the server is impressive, more well done than most "supposedly great rp pw's" that have haks.
Why is Winterhaven worth checking out?

An Excellent RP community. Fantastic PW layout. Some really nice custom content and no hak required. A little tough for new players to get started, but with a little patience Winterhaven can be nothing short of magical for those that enjoy role-play.

Great world, however I have spend three nights searching for the Druid in the frozen forest to level up and have not found one. I am assuming at this point that the druid has gone missing.
how is moderate? healing potions all over the place or?

A great module. Good roleplayers. Nice DM's. Many areas. I think Winterhaven is fun and great. The rules and the custom design are making a Neverwinter Nights game to seem more like aa DND or Forgotten Relms game. I give it 9!

A great ever-evolving and dynamic world here. XP & Death settings strike a very nice balance between fun & realism which when combined with the excellent area design and layout of the world, creative DM's and creative players, you have all the ingredients of a great gaming experience.

A very large and well laid out game world with lots to see and do. Plenty of different areas that take full advantage of all the toolset has to offer. Good responsive DMs' and so far a good player base.
The only negs' are a somewhat off putting death penalty for lower levels (1-4) and a very hard go of it you try and solo doing anything other than hunting in outdoor areas.
I have played on other servers with most of the builders and DM's here when the were both playing and running things and they really know their stuff. They go out of their way to listen to CONSTRUCTIVE feedback from the players be they players who play only 8 hours a week or 80. Give 'em a try.

great world, the community may not be too big, but the module sure is awesome, best one i've played so far, just wish the community was bigger, but aw well. that doesn't scare me away.

Definatly a unique and creative Pw in the works. Rp based leans more toward Rp adventure. A great custom Hcr system with many custom options added with no haks required. Area designs are nothing but amazing.

Only played innitially during testing phase.., but felt it only right I rate. Derkus and Autorobot are some serious gamers with the skills to go with it.
Will drop in sometime soon to get the working feeling of the ongoing world and rerate at the time.
