The One Big Rule (that's OBR, pronounced "uber",) in Folderol is not to interfere with others' fun. It's up to the DMs to decide if someone's being enough of a pain to warrant action. Once the DM has decided to take action, anything's possible.
Folderol is tasty blend of action, RP and humor, brewed just for you by a select band of fragrant nuts. Pixie, Goblin, Ogre, Lizard Man, Dryad, Yuan Ti and more are playable races here, complete with appearance and special abilities. Quest for hidden tomes that can change your PC forever. Lease and decorate a home for your character. Enjoy the delights of herbal cookery (and smokery.) Hire henchmen when you need extra muscle.

Good solid server, subraces to play and interesting customized things to discover.

This is an excellently designed, well tested, and enormously detailed world, with a very dedicated community of players and some strikingly original creatures and items. There are no standard NWN creatures, and no standard items. Everything is custom-designed with a detailed description. Excellent!

I only hold back the .5 pts because Folderol is still being built upon, and therefore is still on its way to perfection.

Have only found half a dozen worlds that I play on out of about eighty I have tried. This rates in the top three.
This server has the most "built-in" quests that can be done without a DM, ranging from easy to downright impossible without help. Though it has a whole bunch of Dm's dropping in from time to time.
It has the most humour and quirkiness I have played so far of any server. I have died countless times whilst trying to read the funny descriptions of some of the creatures, instead of concentrating on the battle at hand.
Dynamic spawns abound, so each area can be a challenge going in at low level (2 goblins) to higher levels (suddenly them goblins have some tough mages and fighter to challenge a much higher level group or individual).
The detailing of the areas is a high point for me, a great attention to detail and texture can be found in a hefty proportion of the server.
The RP ability is varied, from light to heavy RP. This will be a pleasure to those who are intimidated by some of the more serious RP out there, it might put off more "serious" RP's.
Death penalties are about average, but not permanent, with a "return to place killed" option for those crazy enough to want to jump back in at the monster who just killed you.
From what I have seen so far, there appears to be a concerted effort to provide areas/challenges for each character class, though I'll have to spend longer playing different PC's to be sure.
A great help, is the ability to hire a henchman, from evil goblin assassin, to huge burly ogre. These are effective to about level 20, though the goblins rogue ablities will be invaluable for those without the openlock skill.
A good server, in my opnion. Well done the builders, staff and DM team.

The players, DMs and builders are all great fun in Folderol. Even when there's not a DM event going on, the players are sure to provide plenty of personality.
"A dryad, a gnoll and an elf walk into a bar" is not the beginning of a joke--it's the 3 player characters I saw last time I visited the Sheikh Sperry Inn.

Has good newbie dungeons and a quest string to get you to level 8 or so. Much easier to get into than many other persistant worlds.

This is my favorite persistant world. Also has fun monthly DM events.

Yeah for whatever reason it didn't catch my first vote, so here it is.

Quirkster's right on that, and I'd like to add one of the biggest reasons I even considered the world in the first place: Classes/races/etc. are NOT LIMITED. I'd been playing around other modules in Roleplay and Persistent Worlds, and too many have resctrictions like "Thou shalt not rise aboveth the fourth level of Paladin without joining a cult and declaring yourself to Torm," thus making all Paladins forced to be Torm Paladins. Yeah. Screw that. I have my own characters, and they are free to roam!

Folderol is a great persistent world for those new to multiplayer or persistent worlds. People have an accepting attitude for all levels of role-playing ability, there aren't a lot of changes/restrictions to the rules of the original campaign, and the One Big Rule, "Don't interfere with other people's fun," makes it a very unintimidating place to be. Parties are rewarded with more experience than soloers, but I also found it one of the best places to explore on my own, partly because the things to do are so concentrated. There are multiple vendors in the starting area, there are at least three newbie hunting areas just one door/transition away from the starting point, and the forageable items are also right there in the starting area. You won't have to run through three maps just to get out of the city and to the fighting areas.
The reason I really like Folderol, though, is the humor built into the world. There are subtle puns in many locations, entertaining descriptions when you examine just about everything, and amusing names for monsters and people ("Unsettling Large Spider").

I came here through a recommendation having been disappointed with other PW's I had tried. This is a brilliant place, great characters, quests and above all incredibly friendly. The DMs have been brilliant and incredibly supportive and even if not an organised DM session, if they have time will listen to requests and tailor game play to that. I have no intention of exploring elsewhere for a long time to come.

Folderol is an awesome PW to play in. There are alot of quests within the world and scheduled DM events. Storylines make for excellent RP an enable your characters to grow with the world. DMs are fun and fair and bring a wide variety of experience to Folderol! Come join in on the fun!!

I stumbled on Folderol one day and have played there ever since. I have tried a few other servers, but so far Folderol has been my only home. _________________________ Visit us at: Link

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction.
