Description
Adventures set around a troubled farming community with a cursed forest on its doorstep. Battledale is a server set in the Forgotten Realms with heavy emphasis on roleplaying. It focuses on players working together to defeat challenges and discover secrets. Frequent DM-run events and quests, a huge number of custom monsters and scripts. Gameplay has been modified with limited resting and changes to some spells, but is more easy-going than the Hard Core Rules. Battledale features respawning ground traps, hidden doors, custom creature AI and some unique weapons and player abilities. Experience and treasure are low, and although many magic items exist they are not easy to find. PvP is not usually encouraged. Please read the section in our handbook on character creation before playing. The password is easily found by looking on our website. Click on the 'read me' file link here to download the Battledale Player's Handbook. Come join us!

overrated bad server.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.

Wonderful server and community, talented and friendly DMs and players. Beautifully built FR environment rich in background, lore and detail.. amazing role-playing, active General forum and Roleplaying and Story forum (with many well-written stories there).. check out Battledale 2!

Great all around server. Some of the best area design I've seen in NWN, very helpful DMs, and most of the players are very cool. I do have to agree with one post below, if you know someone before joining it makes life alot easier. But, most people are just shy. Usually if you say hello, you can make some friends pretty quickly.

Battledale is a wonderful server with some great custom scripting. The best part of BD is the community of players and DMs who enjoy roleplaying and adventuring.

Agree with scullcleaver. Heck, even partied with his PC too.

A very well made world. Very good fun. Vast areas to wander about. Danger level is as low or as high as you want it. Could use a bigger urban area, but it is understandable given the context.

I have not encountered nasty DMs, but I have encountered one nasty player as described. Kept hounding me with elven insults supposedly IC and helpful translations to the insults via Tells. Worst RPed elf maid I ever met. But hey, it's just 1 bad apple in a few weeks of play.

Give it a shot!

Got to give it to the DMs on Battledale...

I've been playing for a few weeks now and love the server! The DMs keeps things interresting and the roleplay is good, I have only found one server that compares (TSM).

I can't say I recognize any of the bad things posted here, but then I haven't played more then a few weeks.

I'd say it's worth a try, don't give up if your char is haveing a hard time!

Don't let the negative comments here put you off trying this server! It is comming up to nearly a year since I began playing on it and I have never experienced any of the things the negative posts suggest happen personally.

It was the first server I played on, the first time I had really rp'd (apart from a couple of games through NWC), the first time I'd played online and my knowledge of the setting was small. I never once felt ignored OOC or was told I was a bad rp'er. In fact the opposite, I was encouraged and told people liked my char. During the time I have played on Battledale I have tried several other servers but nothing compared, being either poorly balanced, I was pk'd for no reason, or found myself wandering in wide empty spaces.

Group play is encouraged in that the dungeons are tough to encourage it and may require a range of skills to complete. There is a wide variety of dungeons and new things to discover and new areas are added or changed from time to time.

Battledale requires no HAK's and the password is easy to find. It is very easily accessable and still maintains a high quality of players. So don't let those who didn't like it put you off. If you want a good rp server you should try it.

Battledale is great server. It offers nice roleplaying environment for anyone intrested in Forgotten Realms. It is, unlike most of the servers

my internet Explorer has 128bit security, so theres no reason for myself not being able to get onto the website, but its not letting me...and I want to get the password and handbook.

Battledale is a great server, with well designed and balanced areas. Its fun to play in a group, or solo (which can be tough if your anything but a fighter). The world is challenging, but not for a well made party. My only complaint is the lack of magic equipment (which the enemies seem to have an abundance of).

But Burning Bright is correct with his comments on the older players. A lot of them seem to have forgotten what roleplaying is about: Having fun. They spend a lot of time hanging outside of the inn having ooc conversations in Tell with other older players, or pestering the new players for not being up to their standards.

Thats not to say BD is a bad server, its far from it. It is by far one of the best I have ever played on. But some of the older community are major stuck up asses, so my best advice is try to avoid or ignore them and enjoy the beautiful world the DM's built.

If you log onto Battledale and get to play with other new players you will have a blast. The area design and layout is top notch and can be alot of fun to explore.

But sooner or later you will have a run in with one of the 'long time' players. You can be sure that you will receive a tell chastising you for poor RP skills (regardless of your RP skills), for the colour of your robes (regardless of their colour), for powergaming (even if your sitting in the inn), for being above level 3 if you haven't played there for a year, it goes on and on. (you will get tells ooc.. you'll probably be lucky if they talk to you ic as it's more usual for their characters to ignore you completely).

The old time players whine constantly and incessantly if you don't fit their definition of how to play. They're protective of their server as it is a good one, so their attitudes are understandable, but are displayed very negatively. If they were able to get back to the having fun part of the game this server would be one of the best out there.

The 'role-playing' on this server seems to comprise a bunch of high-level characters standing round the newby areas talking about their adventures in Wardour Street English. I have had a couple of good sessions when I have got in with a bunch of other newbies, but mostly its just plain boring. Even though I enjoy role-playing, I can't recommend this server to anyone going in 'cold' i.e. not knowing someone already playing regularly there.

Posted by nissandrivin ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-12-12 20:42:00
Battledale is an OK server. There is alot of DM asskissing and the Roleplay nazi's will get you if you don't conform to their idea's. The magic setting is very low, except the monsters of course. PC's are severly limited, while orc's wander around with 13 hit die and use potions of heal...
Still, it's more or less a quality server, and their are alot of cool players there. Worth a shot, untill something better comes along.

Thanks guys for the comment.

I too have problem with DM who expolit their power and spwan a gang of monsters on you and claim it to be realistic.

I left a server which I played a long time for the same reason. Where DM would play as low as the ones you said on Battledale. Same thing happened, good DM left because of that.

Thanks for the advice, I will not give it a go.

When I first logged into Battledale I was slated for making a simple error, even when I refused to drop out of character I was still hounded. This kind of put me off but I tried again. Now I have to say I really enjoy. A nice server, with lots of things to do and a good quality of roleplay.

Cannot wait till I get a little harder, then that dwarf who gave me the hassle is gonna get his stumpy little +blocked+ peppered!

Don't bother visiting Battledale. If you make a one tiny mistake you get banned. I know lots of people that are banned because of it. DMs are always watching your back and spawning monsters after you in forests, mines, dungeons and everywhere. I tried BD once.. and I didn't enjoy. Most of players are asskissers and are licking dms butt... sad, but true. Players "roleplay" but they are shouting stupid things in shout channel. Few DMs have left because battledale is boring, and many players have left too. Its not worth it to try Battledale.

I have been playing on Battledale since October 2002 and I can't get enough of it. The server constantly develops, guided by the excellent team of DMs and enriched by great roleplayers. Only after comparing it with other servers (which I did recently) that it maintains the highest standard across the board.

Captivating background story (combining Forgotten Realms setting with many local legends and myths developped by the DM team), DM-run quests, areas and NPCs developped in a great focus on detail, possibility of mature roleplaying - all that make BD the best server out there.

Come and join us. You won't regret it.

Battledale has the highest standard of role-play I've ever found on any NWN server, or have heard of. It is in-character, all the time, with no tells, shouts or party-chat. The richness and detail of the world and the proliferation of NPC's who primarily interact through DM animation yields an experience that lives up to the "DM" potential that NWN advertised. I am very grateful to the Battledale team for building the best thing going...

Yeah I used to play on BD long ago, I think it was pretty new still back then. Pity they dont allow Drow players, maybe oneday they might create a underground place for Drow, who-knows.

This server is the only server I would even think of playing on. When is down and I have tried out other servers, I have ALWAYS been disappointed with the level of role-playing. The roleplaying environment that Battledale have fostered is of a quality I have never even heard of elsewhere. I think the only way truly appreciate it is to come try it your self.

I started playing on Battledale in October/November of last year, and I have to say that to me, the server has become synonymous with Neverwinter Nights, I just cant bring myself to play anywhere else. I think what first attracted me to the server, other than the high standard of roleplay and low magic items (the atmosphere I was looking for), was the time and effort the builders had put into creating beautifully scripted areas.

Now, as part of the DM team, I certainly think that the foundations have been laid and the standard set very high, and its certainly something that I'm still amazed at.

In short, I think palmer's comment sums it up, come join us! The players and DMs will welcome any roleplayers along, and I hope that the new players will have a chance to experience Battledale, both through these scripted areas, and also through the frequent DM quests. Hope to see you on the server soon!

Same as above, played on Zombie land an a quite a few other servers. Got sick of all this "prty plz" +blocked+. Stopped playing NWN for a while untill I found BD. Most of the time I live there. Great MOD with DMs and players to match. If your after mature RPing and the feeling that you have acheived something when you get a +1 weapon/armour then come play here! Err then again don't as it's always full. Yeh the DMs walk the streets and kill you for a laugh, unless you send them beer 'n tabs as a bribe.
