Description
Amia is immense with hundreds of highly detailed areas to explore.
Battle hordes of well-balanced enemies to engage, hoard unique (random) items, get a job, pray to your favorite god, or decorate your own house. It's all possible, and then we haven't even mentioned our greatest asset: an incredible community of players. Come find out why Amia is one of the busiest NWN roleplay servers in the world! Please visit our web site for additional information.
It probably doesn't take a genius to note that the account made for the above comment, and the account for the actual ex-owner of the server (MagnumMan) don't match, and so aren't the same person. Amia does not enforce permadeath on a non consent basis, with the exception of the climax of one DMs 3 year plot arc, that players are freely able to opt out of, if they are not comfortable with possible permadeath being a penalty for grievous failure.
n.b. didn't vote, seems lame to vote on a server I admin on

Server has recently chosen to enforce perma-death on a non consent basis. A sad choice from an otherwise once fine server, and worthy of my lowest possibile condemation.

I rate this gameworld 7.75 and submit my unbiased opinion.
PROS:
The gameworld it self is fun, most the playerbase is tolerable and most of the DM can be interacted with without hassle. The max level on this server is 30, gear is easy to acquire, Roleplay is abundant, Leveling is easy enough to do, It has a well scripted Job system, easy fast travel via portal wands and the subrace system is amazing. Did I mention its dev team works hard to make it a better place? Its also best to note it is mostly lagless.
CONS: Nothing is perfect and Amia is no exception here. There are a few DMs on their DM team who are just down right incredibly rude(Stupidly so). These few DMs treat players with little respect, treat them as if they have no intellect and in my experience, they have been known to be incredibly uninformative, harsh and aggressive when I have asked them questions(Be it about Lore, Technical things or otherwise) but its easy to overlook when you're off roleplaying with a good group of people. Like any community, it has a few bad eggs here and there. Another thing I've noticed is a DM can enforce a rule in any way he or she sees fit. I've not really given them any reason to punish me but where others are concerned I have seen it get hectic and more harsh than it should. There are more, but they are so petty its not even worth making a note of.

Great bunch of players... funny rp... nice dms... HA!
This server is a nightmare for new players, they never get help. You cant OOC even in party chat.
Well guys, you keep on thinkin' you are the center of the world. Your choice.
Feels less of a roleplaying server, and more of an action server. Didn't see any rp, just saw nearly 100 people standing around in mostly identical armor. Pass this one on.
The issue with the roleplaying is that a lot of players postpone it indefinitely. They don't think about how they're spoiling the server for everyone else. They just do whatever they please.
While this may just be an unavoidable bane of roleplaying servers, the fact remains that roleplayers are outnumbered by those who don't and won't roleplay unless a DM smacks them upside the head.
This is evident as soon as you try and go on an adventure, only to have it hijacked by XP addicts.

Most might know me, more may not. Amia does try it's best to be a very balanced server. I've seen the gamut run from enticing RP to rather drab days. It's hit or miss but more often than not, it hits. The scenery is lush and beautiful, the people are engaging.
For those that lament about the lack of RP, we're sorry though at times it is difficult to finish off that paragraph post filled with emotes in answer to something asked before you showed up. Please have patience with those of us who are not speed typers.
There are interactive quests and NPCs which are class or race reactive with their rewards. Spells have been customized. Sadly yes, there is the influx of those with wings and such but many who are approved for them utilize their gifts to remarkable means.
There are few no-pvp zones though many are guarded by NPCs so you have to be tricky and behave as you would in a RL city or any city of the Forgotten Realms.
You want to do something underhanded? Be smarter than the guards and do it where they can't see you! Very PC/NPC immersive. The forum is a bit drab but that's only because the Dev team is working to bring marvelous hak-free content.
Of recent there seems to be a strange swing towards more optimized builds but it hasn't seemed to dampen the spirits of those who enjoy the RP and actively participate in it.
*grins* New players, just say hi. Don't be shy. Come on in, the RP's fine. _________________________ Shit happens. Either start growing roses or flush.
I have played Amia on and off since the early times and a lot of things have changed in that time.
Roleplaying is still hard to come by. A number of players are more interested in advancing their character through combat than they are in interacting with the world in a meaningful way.
The module itself is well-designed and provides lots of areas both for adventuring and for roleplaying. But again, a number of players do not make use of these areas as much as they could.
As far as features go, Amia has the Book of Transmutation, which allows players to alter their spells to produce different effects. There is a handy travel network to get you to where you want to go for a modest sum of gold. There are stalls available for players to sell their stuff to other players. There are numerous fixes and changes to spells and summons.
If Amia's player base wasn't so intent on getting to max level and ignoring opportunities to roleplay then they would be a much more welcoming community.
But don't take my word for it, go and see for yourself. ;)

Hey, Sorrow_of_wind!
I don't know what your login is, but do contact me about your experience. We don't ban people on whim, and every ban is documented on our DM forums. If you were truly banned, instead of just booted by the system for mechanical reasons (such as taking a Monk level, for LETO feat modifications), we'll get to the bottom of it. I hope your experience doesn't drive you away from Amia altogether.
Anyway! I can heartily recommend Amia. I've been playing it for 4 years now, 2,5 of which I've been a DM. We have our flaws, like any server, but I think we're open to critisism and willing to improve. Our definite strengths include a large and welcoming community, a hard-working Dev team to answer to player and DM needs, a fair and heterogenous DM team, a module as well-built as modules get without HAKs, and a variety of locales and themes to cater to many kinds of RP - be it mystical, desert-themed Mulhorandi-Faerûn conflict, shady urban politics and propaganda, the curiousities of elven society and the tensions within (and without), or the old-school trailblazing through snowy wilderness, smelly swampland, dark forests or even the bottom of the ocean! Just to mention some examples.
Want to be a scribe, preacher, herbalist or lumberjack? We also have a new Job system to gain XP without killing monsters. Other mechanical goodies include: many new subraces (fully implemented, not the old system we had years ago), a deity system to pray to your patron for boons, custom weapon crafting, rental housing, and so on.
Sorry, this turned out to be more of an advertisement than a review. But come see for yourself, and make up your own mind.
Was not like it used to be... I remember fond time serveral years ago with Amia, when I was playing as a half-orc druid (called himself shaman). Yesterday, I went to B server and created a similar character, but immediately got booted after 1 hour or less.
During this time, I didn't do occ talks like my party members, nor violate anything, yet still got booted. All well, guess Amia isn't for me anymore. Probably I need to find another server that wouldn't boot players for no apparently reason.

Great server to play on, if your looking for some heavy RP and a well balanced PvP system. The DMs are strict but just, active at almost all the time to help (as well as punish) the players. lot's of RP plots going on around, some of which are player organized.
Overall a server for true RPers as well folks that simply enjoy whacking monster in the deep dungeons, for the PW features some great areas to explore, hunt XP and obtain loot.

First off this server isn't a PW. It lacks persistance in all aspects. Second few zones are full pvp and the ones that are, well are backed up by nearly the worse pvp system invented. You earn nothing for a pk and lose nothing for being pked. Takes SOO much out of the rp quality. Third the rp is decent, but that's only said becuase the players try so hard. It's fun, but nothing more than mediocre. Everyone and thier family has wings or a glowstick. Top this off by saying if your looking for a true to FR rp exp. look elsewhere.

I very like the idea of HAK-free server.
And I'm sorry I'm not native english/american speaker, cause i lost a lot from what others say.
Best regards to Amia team.

It's impressive that a server with no custom content at all (aside from scripts) can remain full nearly all the time. At the same time, in the three days I played there, I encountered only 3 other players willing to stop and talk to me, and one of those was new as well. It's really too "hit or miss" as to whether you can find the real roleplayers or if you just get run past 50 times by people in full plate.

MagnumMan is telling the truth when he says, "Amia is the busiest roleplay server" on Gamespy. Come and see what all the fuss is about. I rate this place 10 out of 10 stars.

What gives? This mod usually has 75+ players but only has 17 votes so far. Best RP mod of them all.

This is the best PW of them all. It has the most players online (at any given time) of any I have seen on Gamespy. People in Amia are extremely easy to get along with
Tried Amia a while ago. It wasn't bad, but I didn't find anything that really grabbed me to make me want to stay. It seemed to suffer the same pitfalls most long established PW's do: it's great if you've been there a long time, but very hard to break into as a newcomer. Not enough to do at low level, and most other PC's I saw were obviously on a mission and far too busy to stop to RP or offer advice.
*shrugs* $.02
