Cormyr-Dalelands is one of the Gamewords with most beautyful custom content and areas. While it is not the bigest of them, there must have been alot time put in into the existing areas, and because of the very active DM team, there is always something to do.
Evryone can sign up for the announced quests that are held oftens, allowing new players to set a feet into the current events and get in touch with established players far easier then it is the case in other PWs i have played on.
Another thing i like very about CD is that the level range between characters is not that big (resulting from the special leveling system that requires DM xp, which is not that hard to gain), and as such, lower level characters dont need to be worried about being overrun by epic characters and still are able to have a impact on the world.

"Wow." That was my first thought upon completing the in-game character creation and entering the actual part of the module. The setting is well designed and the custom background music just really adds a feeling of "new" to NWN rather than the drabness that the original BGM seems to evoke now. The next thing to grab my attention was the customization of your character's outward appearance. As mentioned in a previous comment, there is a tailor shop that allows you to create a look for your character that can set them apart from the other characters in the mod. It is a major help to allow you to fit your character's clothing to the character rather than having your character fit the persona of the clothing.

The players on here are generally very good with RPing and the DMs are very helpful when they're not busy with another in-game matter. I also enjoy the large number of players on this server. Although that may mean fighting for a spot on the server at peak hours of activity, it also means the chance for more IC roleplay rather than forcing your character, or the other characters, to be a bit out of character just so you can go do something with everyone else.

I've only been playing on here for a little while, but considering that this is only my first impression of the module, it's pretty indicative of the warm and fun atmosphere that many RPers may be seeking.

This looks interesting. It's unfortunate the haks aren't gathered together into one. I don't have time to download a dozen individual hak files.

I like the server for many different reasons, i like the people even the most novice rp'er here is still tons betterthen some servers i have seen. the Forgotten realms setting attracts me because i play Forgotten Realms on weekends with buddy's on pen ~n~ paper, so i know where im at and whats going on in the FR wolrd, and they have Tressym's! that is the number one reason to come the flying cats! people are all friendly and the DM's are always on one or more. well, thats it hope you come and see whats all the talk about.

Review:

A few people that I knew were moving over to this server so I deiced to follow them and see what it was like. I quickly scanned around on the forums but I didnt find a whole lot of information. This was something that worried me at first. My FR knowledge doesnt extend much past the gods and Waterdeep (due to some time on ALFA) so I was a bit worried to walk into what appeared to be a heavy FR based RP world. Luckily, it didnt prove to be much of an issue at all.

With a quick search on the web, I found some bits of information that helped me create my first character: A druid from the nearby woods who had spent most of her life in the forest. I did eventually start a new character to one from the Sword Coast (since Im more familiar with that area of FR).

Ill start out with some of the first things that jump to mind:

The first thing that I noticed was the amount of DMs and DM support that was given. In just a few hours on the server, I had already received 400 EXP for just sitting around the Inn and RPing with others. There is a very large DM team here and they are very active. It is very hard to find a time when youre not going to see a DM online and if youre RPing then youre likely to run into one. Ill go more into the DM team further down.

C/D is unlike any server I have played on before in terms of custom content regarding character customization. They have a number of the PrC classes as well as some other custom ones (Like Corymr War Wizard/Purple Dragon Knight [maybe these are now on the PrC pack?]). This allows you a much easier time to create something unique other than the 17th monk on the server.

One thing that is very important to a lot of people is appearance customization. The creators at C/D understood this when they added in a unique tailoring shop. You can start crafting on a model, which has more appearance options that Ive ever seen before. When you get done, you can purchase the armour for the price that you would if it was sitting in a store (i.e. 1 gp for cloth, 1500 gp for plate mail). Now, what happens when you get a new suit of armour and have to change the look to your current one? Well, you can copy the appearance of your clothing to the model. So, you wear your old armour, copy it to the model, change to your new armour and copy the changes from the model to your armour. It is a very nice system. What Id like to see is something for weapons.

Something that really shocked me was the shear amount of winged creatures running around the city. Its like everyone has a character with wings. Rightfully so I guess, as you can fly with the wings (note that you also have access to fly potions, fly spells, dimensional door and similar types of spells). Its probably not a big deal to most people, but I strongly think that if the guards see a tiefling character walking around the city, they should kill it on sight. Its a minor pet peeve of mine due to pervious places Ive played.

The amount of haks (~240 MB hak + 10 MB overrides) is quite a lot in terms of downloads for some people who have dialup. These haks do add a lot to the gameworld and are definitely worth it. One other issue is the use of a custom .tlk file. In order to see the actual names of the new feats, new skills and new classes on character creation, you need to enter the mod, then exit and rejoin so the .tlk file is loaded when you rejoin the server. Its not something that is the fault of this PW but the fault of how the .tlk files work.

Another minor problem I have is the spawning of hostile creatures in the wild. It looks like the guards in Arabel are on NESS spawn patrol routes and it would be nice to have the wild creatures set up to spawn onEnter rather then when you approach a spawn point. Also, speaking of the wild, some of the transitions can be very hard to see.

The experience system is a bit of a change from standard NWN progression. After level 6, youre required to get DM granted EXP to advance in levels. You can earn 6000 EXP from fighting but the rest needs to come from a DM. After a certain level (13, I think), all of your EXP needs to come from a DMs. That might sound restricting, however the DM staff is very active.

The overall feel of the community is a very positive one. You dont have people attacking each other on the forums over the pettiest things they can think of. I believe this is due to a strong Admin staff and the players staying true to the main rule of the server, Respect. Respect for your fellow player and respect for your DM. All servers should be designed on this premise. It allows for fun rather than the drive to win at all costs. Personal, I think losing can be fun.

Since the people are on the server to respect you and have fun, the RP is probably in the top three of all the places Ive tried (which is a lot). Everyone on the server is here for RP and it show though their in game actions and their development of their characters.

Fun Factor:

C/D is a very fun server. There are so many unique items in the loot tables along with numerous DM quests every week (maybe 2-4 posted per week, plus random IG ones). Since this server is still in Beta (but it is going live this weekend) there are many more areas to come which are always fun to explore. As I mentioned above, with the positive community and great RP from the other players, this is a very fun place to play.

Score: 9

Originality:

There is more than just one City of Arabel PWs out there, but that doesnt take away from its originality. With the additional PrCs, items, spells and unique DM quests, C/D doesnt loose too many points on the setting.

Score: 7

Community:

To add on to what has been said above, the forums are a great place to read IC stories about the characters on the world. Some of the writers are much better than others (like me, but I try) and youll find some amazing stories posted for everyone to read.

There is already a large player base. Its not uncommon to see 25 players on for most of the night.

Score: 9

Custom Content:

In terms of world design, next to Vives, this is server probably has the best use of custom content that Ive seen. The use of all the haks, including placeables and tilesets, is amazing. The world is very beautifully designed.

As mentioned above, there are numerous new spells, feats, skills, races and classes. Its a great use of those extras.

My one issue is some of the placeables cause an inordinate amount of lag on my computer (fog VFXs and Waterfall VFXs).

Score: 9.5

DMs:

C/D probably has the best DM staff Ive ever seen in a PW. There are a lot of them (~25) and there is always at least one online. Id estimate that the coverage is ~80% (maybe higher). There are countless DMs events to involve yourself in and the staff is fairly good at weaving stories.

Also, there is an entire forum for you to request changes though LETO such as a feat change, description change, head change etc. These requests are usually finished within a few days

Another forum is available for all players to suggest a quest that they would like a DM to run for them. These will usually get picked up and finished within a week (or longer if it turns into multiple parts). The DMs are very good at answering these requests.

I have one pet peeve, and that is spawning in creatures. Sometimes they will spawn something right in front of you. Its not really a big deal, but Id rather have it appear off of my screen and approach me instead of appearing right in front of me.

Score: 9

Roleplaying:

As mentioned above, probably one of the top three places that Ive been too.

Score: 9

Hack n Slash:

C/D is not a HS server, but there are lots of chances for you to go out and fight things if you feel like it. The server is centered on RP but that does not limit you to staying at the Inn and talking. Adventuring is part of RP too.

The score is low, simply because the server is not deigned to be hack n slashed and because you need DM granted EXP to advance past level 7.

Score: 5

Quality:

C/D is a very high quality server for one that is still in Beta. The builders are very good and have a keen attention to detail down to each and every placeable put in the mod.

Score: 9

Reliability:

The admin staff has the server automatically restart if it crashes and there is rarely any lag issues (my lag issues are client side). The most Ive seen it down in my month of playing there has been about 2 hours.

Score: 9

Static Quests:

This is something that could use some improvement. Id personally rather try and run though a static quest when I cant find anyone around town then wait around for someone to show up at the Inn. So far, Ive run into three quests: completed one, wasnt high enough level for the second one and the third one doesnt seem to be finished yet.

The ones that are finished seem to be well enough designed. It was nothing too amazing, but its a quest that you can get a bit of purpose out of.

Score: 6

Average Score: ~8.2

My Score: 9

I really enjoy this world and Id recommend it to anyone who enjoys a world where they can have a huge customization of their character, stay true to respecting your fellow community members and loves to RP.

Great server. Top notch and all of that. The DM staff is the most creative I've dealt with in my time playing NWN online.

Great server, I may be a bit biased, but I've enjoyed my time playing here more than any other place I resisded on NWN. The DM staff is friendly and tries thier best to meet most resonable requests.

Everyone has different tastes, but I would say that this is what a story-based roleplaying server ought to be. Is it perfect? Probably not, but we'll certainly do everything we can to make it so.

This server has a good community of both players and DMs. They've managed to balance keeping true to the rules and setting with maintaining the fun of playing NWN.

This server has great DMing, areas filled with eye candy, amazing custom scripts and spells, and runs flawlessly, there's never been a problem with lag. It stays true to the campaign setting, true to the rules, but doesn't dumb down FUN!

This server has much custom content and at the time I am posting this, more is still to come. The DM staff is large, friendly, and helpful and adds a lot of coverage time. We're about fun and roleplay. We have plenty of dungeons for players to immerse themselves in along with an expansive world which we're still building (we have several builders). I recommend anybody interested in good roleplay to check out our server.

The closest representation of PnP I've yet to experience with a communtity of elite RPers. A must see for any serious D&D fan. The custom content is amazing and the builders have created a breath-takinging server. I found the DMs/staff to be excellent and helpful and quite numerous.

As the lead admin, I'd be interested to know which DMs you may have had problems with. We take comments, suggestions, and even complaints very seriously, and I make sure they're all addressed. However, we can't address complaints if they aren't brought to us.

Content on this server is nicely done, too bad they need better DM's to run server, most of em are pure sh*t heads but then again this is beta server and the DM's maybe improving from their mistakes. If your looking good "RP" server then this is your pick. //Sorry if you are missing a point here my english ain't the best.
