The Moonshae Isles PW project first began in August 2005. At its core is the excellent PW base created by Olander, however most (if not) all initial systems have been modified to some degree. In addition, many other features have been added.
Tzal was the Project Lead on another PW since February of 2004 up until he began lead design work on the Moonshae Isles PW in August of 2005. His experience and the ability to pull a considerable number of scripts and templates from his previous PW has made design of this project relatively easy and fast.
The Moonshae Isles PW is meant to be a base to develop and refine features and other systems we hope to port to NWN2. As well, we hope to grow a playerbase we can take to NWN2 where the Moonshae Isles will continue to grow and become a nice home for serious roleplayers.

Ive been playing on the server regularly for a month now and have found a high level of professionalism in the staff and roleplayers. Because of my time-zone, major interaction with DMs has been limited, but recently that has begun to change with more DMs. The Celtic feel of the world is well realized and beautifully designed with obvious love. The on-going storyline is engaging. Did I mention great RP? Most importantlynine times out of ten, its fun!

I'd like to add that the number of unplanned events the DM's run really adds to the feel of the server. Not only are they quick to whip something up, but they're equally good at running with things the players are doing.

Simply the best PW I have played on. With a detailed and exciting story that pulls you in the moment you log on for the first time, enthusiastic and experienced DM's ready to help and entertain to the highest quality, more fantastically designed features and scripts then you can shake a stick at and top class RP from the players, this server deserves no less then 10 out of 10.

Aside from my ongoing complaints about excessive powergaming, I really have no complaints about MI. Fortunately, the DM's are attempting to remove this problem, which hasn't been taken very well by the worst offenders. If the anti-powergaming policy results in a smaller playerbase, I honestly believe we'll be better off anyway.
I've found the DM's to be as enthusiastic about interacting as I've seen anyway. Anyone who complains that the DM's do nothing but watch and criticize should really step back and take a look at how they've been playing.
I haven't seen much in the way of treasure drops from kills, but unfortunately better drops would simply further encourage people to run around hacking things up just to get better stuff.
The number of areas should be making leap upward soon, so hopefully that will shorten the lines of people waiting to run through the existing areas.
Experience awarded per kill is fine. Raising it would simply help the PG'ers, and lowering it wouldn't discourage them all that much.
I can't really comment on the magic level yet, but it's already much higher than say Gallows Bird (another fantastic server that's horribly underappreciated).
In all, it's a great young server with quality DM's, many good roleplayers, interesting characters, impressive scripting, and nice features. The experience can only get better as new content gets added and the already dwindling powergaming community continues its path toward extinction.

Folks,
The Vault is not the place to air your grievances as Dracop did... This is a place for your honest opinions on the world, so others may see whether they will like it or not.
I am not stating that Draco wasn't honest, but he never addressed any of his concerns with me (Head DM) and he never brought them up as such on our forum... He simply placed them here after a negative experience on his part, and in the act of departing our world for good... Where does that do anyone any good?
The same goes for Bloogman retracting his comment as well. He posted his retraction prior to ever hashing the situation out with the DM team, and without waiting for a response to his one query...
This is a free forum, and any may express their opinions; BUT I must ask that you try to handle your negative comments with us before airing them publicly here. Anything less is childish and unfair to the work we try to accomplish in the server, and the other players who are enjoying the server greatly.

Best server i have ever played. The community is brill, the RPing is quality and the scripting is the best i've seen in two years!

I just realized I didnt cast a vote in my first comment. Well I have been deeply involved in this wonderfully engrossing world for a bit longer now. Since I find myself enjoying this place more than any other Neverwinter experience I would have to give a strong 10 to this effort. Bravo to this hard working staff and the very colorful assortment of player characters.

It's a great world.
You can fish too wooooooooh!
Oh, and I promise you'll laugh..there's some great RP'ers on this server. Crafters hall is a very unique feature in my opinion. Once you manage to get enough money you can buy a house! Furniture too........
I can go on all day and night, and year, and month! Bottom line it's a great community!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh I give it a 9.5 out of 10 since my computer is too slow to register.

If anything, I've had nothing but good experiences with the DM's. They're friendly, helpful, and very eager to interact with characters who are doing what they're supposed to be. Many of the players on the server are truly great roleplayers.
That being said, the low voter did make a few valid points. MI currently isn't very big from a number of areas perspective. I don't have a problem with that, but it does help to illustrate the ongoing battle against power/meta gamers that the DM's are still trying to get sorted. I believe that I've only taken two trips where an area hasn't already been run through by someone (and usually the same people seem to do it over and over again as quickly after a reset as possible).
That being said, it really is a great young server, and I have every confidence that the DM's will get the powergaming segment of the population handled (they're working on it).
In short:
Great DM's who are approachable, interact well (both in and out of character), and seem to share my (growing) dislike for those who behave outside the spirit of the server.
A very well put together world (if still a bit undersized)
Quality scripting
Some great RP'ers
An ongoing problem with powergamers with little to no interest in roleplaying
It's a great young server with a lot of potential for growth, whose only real problem seems to be one that's fairly common with new servers.

Don't know what Draco's problem was... there were many DM events almost everyday. If you run around saying well no one likes my character as a reason to solo then complain because DM's focus their time on the other 19 PC's on the server who have joined into 3 of four groups well I call that just plain poor planning on your part. Evil doesn't have to equal butface for a personality. *shrug* Anyway as both a player and being on the design team for this world my opinions may be skewed, the truth is though; you can't please everybody. I guess some people that play evil just can't understand why they might not get a warm welcome from the NPC's in power when they threaten the populace, talk about their evil god dominating everyone and then loot the commons barrows every chance they get. Imho if you want to play evil you should be aware that all actions have consequences, that's what makes a world immersive. Some of those consequences may be harsh. If you want to avoid those, play a cleverer evil or at least don't whine about it when things do go badly. We have many evil characters on the server that have had little trouble duping the populace and even some ranking NPC's into some hatching plans. Heck we even have two of the biggest, dumbest halforc barbarians now in the guard and roleplaying their way to lawful alignments from extremely chaotic ones(great job there btw). All I can say is the MI will be what you make of it from what I see. If you love RP you'll love the MI. If you love powergaming/powerleveling, perhaps somewhere else is more to your taste.

The world is stunning, the roleplay is immersive and many many unusual things are done with no haks....truly spectacular!

Im afraid I cannot recommend this PW, neither for Roleplayers, normal players, nor Power Gamers. Ive been playing this mod since beta and for the first week of release. It comes across as something thrown together in a slapdash fashion. Hopefully they improve this server and make it better, the MI deserve better than this.
Pros:
-Lots of background
- some neat scripts
- Fairly low latency connection (low lag)
Cons:
-Highly Inexperienced DMS (they are technically proficient, but they dont know how to make a fun environment for people imo). This is a common problem on newer servers Ive seen, finding good DMs is kinda hard nowadays I guess.
-Severe Lack of Content (3 2-map dungeons, and about 21 overland areas is the entire mod at this moment in time)
- Little to no custom content, many of the early mods released right after NWN came out had fresher areas than this
- NO support for evil characters whatsoever; the mod moves forward through a faction system; all of the factions support Neutral or Good characters only so if you play evil, expect to be alone.
- Penalties (enforced by DMs) for soloing
- Lack of roleplaying by the DMs; they dont bother playing with you, they just sit, watch you, and criticize. 6 DMs they claim yet none ever seem to do more than harass players, and Ive heard this from numerous other players. Heck just read their forums and you will get a sense of what the DMS do, they are quite public about it. I think more players would RP if the DMs actually did what DMs in PnP do; the DMs on this server apparently never played Pen and Paper.
- Lack of Balance: DM spawned encounters dont account for accurate encounter levels; traps are disproportionately powerful relative to monsters. At L4 I saw a character die from a trap doing over 80 pts of electrical damage after we easily cleared the monsters in the area.
Additional Notes:
Some of the claims posted for the server are inaccurate:
Hack and Slash: Light
Tricks and Traps: Very High (Ive seen more characters die (and some even permadie), from traps than I have seen die from monsters! (Not an exaggeration either).
Magic Level: Very low (lowest Ive ever seen anywhere actually, and Ive played many of the best RP mods listed on NWVault)
Experience Rewards: Very Low
Treasure Rewards: Low (there arent many magic items that Ive seen, pretty rare and I played a ton during my time there; this is excluding +1 weps which are sold at shop)
Level Range: 1-40 is misleading since the mod isnt setup to allow you to progress beyond L12ish or so, for the time being at least.

A gorgeous and sizable world to explore. No OOC junk cluttering up the place. Puts you right in the story from the first moment. Great DMs, excellent RP players, a whole lot of fun. One the best, if not THE best, NWN world I've seen.

Being the head DM for this world, I will freely admit we have room for improvement, but I think we have an incredibly solid base to start from, and it is only going to get better ;)
Honestly, I love this world; the design is beautiful, the systems in place work well together, and the team running things is top notch! _________________________ -4SakN

I truly love designing MI, and I love everything we've in this world. I guess if a person doesn't consider their own work the best it can be, no one else should, either. ;) _________________________ -Tzal The Moonshae Isles
