The player respawns at a temple and takes a five precent xp and gold loss. You drop a corpse at your death location and can recover half of your XP's if you can get to it. But so can everyone else...
Blackstone Keep is easy for a low level character to get started in.
It is a Hall of Fame World that has been up since 2002.
Blackstone Keep is an RP-Lite world. RP your character the way you want or just hack and slash, it is your choice.
This module is meant to be fun not frustrating, so it has lenient rules in regards to resting and dieing. Blackstone is not set in the D&D universe. It features a main plot with a definite goal. A large world with well over a hundred areas. Plenty of side quests to challenge and level your character. Numerous secret areas to discover. Lots of custom magical items for your character to find. Persistent storage for player items. Several subraces/subclasses. Proactive deities that will directly intervene on behalf of your character. Role playing tools such as emote wands and racial specific languages. Socketed weapons, forge stones that you can use to customize your items.
Lots of quests to do.
No cost crafting.
In game character deleting.
In game character appearance modification.
Custom weapon blessing based on your deity.
Lots of custom scripts and items. A PW specific overall plot. Very new character friendly in the form of quests, XP and funds. A well balanced world.
While not really a 'Con' as such; be aware that you will meet players with many different styles of gaming. As long as you are willing to accept those differences, you will be happy.

drill you need to fixe the lag of the game when people dye its realy driveing me nuts but the rest of the game is awsome you still need to fixe the bugs tho an if u do it would mak the game more fun to play pleases come back an fix them pleases nwn 2 blackstone keep ty

Excellent Action based NWN2 PW! (9/10... possibly even 9.5!)
Driller, good work on staying on top of updates and changes, barely a day after 1.23 was out, this PW was updated. I HIGHLY recommend it as a Action PW !!!
I have been online in DS-K since the 1.23 patch was implemented and noted this:
-1- Variable environments so it's not visually boring. Some of the environments are VERY well thought up/designed... captivating.
-2- Excellent player base, they are respectful of ppl who like to RP, but also look for action. Most are ready to help and invite newbies, playing on their strengths and not disregarding them for their weaknesses.
-3- Quests are reasonable, straight forward and well within the player's abilities.
-4- Portal system (much like in diablo's town-portals, but the book is persistent, not expended!) is excellent, allowing for easy teaming and returns. I LOVE the fact they are individualized, you KNOW who's portal belongs to who.
-5- Restricted resting system, you can only rest every 15 minutes (rt), which forces you to use rests/spells responsibly. (might not appeal to starting magi and such).
-6- Great content like (A) Universal persistent chests, (B) a posting board to leave messages (rp or not), (C) can create socketed items and (D) chairs you can sit in, everywhere...and possibly the greatest asset, the drops: (E) all those in a party can get loot, individually...no more sharing loot. This encourages team play and fair play...GREAT idea!
-7- Limited drops, which can encourage action play, but also stops players form developing insanely powerful characters. But it also means that what items you DO get, will be rare, could be good, could be bad.
-8- I haven't seen hind or tail of a DM yet, which means to me that they either (i) don't feel the need to meddle all the time, or better yet (ii) doing exactly what a DM is SUPPOSE to be doing, watching and only intervening when it's needed. (as a PnP game designer, published thank you, I deplore 'pro-active' DMs, they belong in WoW, not in a DnD environment).
OVERALL: this world offers much to the action based player, but still can accommodate the RP'er. I recommend it to MY players!
PS: Those ppl who come to BS-K for RP, I'm just wondering. If it's listed in the action PW section, and says it's an action based PW, why are you griping about the rp'ing? Shouldn't the description have made it's nature clear? It is, what it is...enjoy it!

i have been playing on bsk for around three years now and no matter where i go i allways come back. the server is well ballanced and personialy i have had no problims with either staff or players. keep up the awsome work guys. :)
Not sure what you mean by moderate, I have always let people have their say on Blackstone's official forums. Just stating the facts. There are always two sides to a story. People can read them and make their own judgements.

heya driller. peeps post here and vote based on their experiences with your module. don't expect everyone of them to be bright and cheery, especially if they feel that they have been wronged.
as far as "airing it here", that is what this place is all about whether you like it or not. it gives others an idea of how they can expect to be treated.
i suggest you focus more on your module than trying to moderate posts here physically. you'll find it works out in the long run. i give a lower score than norm based on such foolish conjectures made by driller, otherwise a rather decent mod.

well, i know no ones commented for awhile so i will.obviously, there's some disgruntled employees posting here!! :) so everyone reading these comments, take them with a grain of salt!!!! Driller is a very fair DM and made a great PW action type world. its not really too much RP if your real into that, but there are some vets there, like myself, who have spent a great deal of time there and know the ins and outs of RP. some people come on to just purely RP and not pursue a characters levels at all, but most dont do that and i think thats alot of the problem. if you want HARDCORE RP, this server is not for you. if you can live with a reasonable amount while pounding on plenty of enemies well then, you've found your home!!! Driller will not tolerate the players or the dms ,especially, using any sort of cheats. this is unfair to the whole community and if thats what was going on than i have to commend him for taking care of it as swiftly as he did. that sort of behavior breeds resentment among players and it will ruin the whole server in the long run. if theres no community, theres no server!! simple as that kids!!!
now my only complaints about this server are as follows: as of late, say the last 6-8 months the drops have been very scarce and very weak at that. akons is a very expensive shop with great items, but you have to have some money to get there. years ago it was very possible to do so, but now its a pipe dream because trying to get a decent drop is hard enough and wanting to sell it is impossible cause you might not see another!!!! and forget about socket stones and forge stones. there ALL gone. now i know that Driller repaired the scripts for the drops to cut them down some and make things a little more realistic, but its just too tight!!!to be honest it was crazy how often the stones came up, but now were on the other extreme. i know its pushing people out of the community because they never expierenced the true potential of the server. they tell me these things and i really have no argument to keep them there other than to say " in the good ole' days......" no one wants to hear that, they want to live it, or something close to it!!! Driller, youve done a great job with the keep so far, but can you restore us to a piece of the glory we once knew????? im not asking for a riduculous amount of items and stones, but at least a chance at getting them and making it to akon. no matter what, i still love it and ill never leave it cause i know in the future it can only get better!!!! it still is my fav server, flaws and all!!! mm31 _________________________ Do I need one???????

This module is crap, pure crap, they make retarded generalizations about your character and his motives then sick level 40s on you if you say otherwise, it brings a whole new meaning to the communist choice phenominon in RPGS, whoever made this module can kiss my @#$
You two have no one but yourselves to blame for being let go as DM's. To air it here is utterly contemptible.
I'll post what posted on Blackstone's forums.
The position of DM is a position of trust.
A DM should never use their position to help their own characters or their friends.
This is expressly forbidden.
A DM knows that he is not supposed to give his normal characters gold or XP.
A DM knows better than to equip his normal characters with custom items he made offline and brought into the game via his DM account.
A DM should keep their DM'ing separate from their player characters. It is not fair to regular players who have worked hard to get what they have only to have a DM give their own characters the best items and gold at the click of mouse.
This may be normal on other servers, but not this one.
I don't care if it is your favorite DM, I will take one honest DM and a small amount of players over a full server and a crooked DM any day.
This kind of behavior is what really poisons a server's community. Something had to be done and was.
While we may suffer in the short run, things will work out for the best in the long run.
It is not easy doing the right thing, but the right thing was done.

This server has shifted from rp lite to action. PvP is actively encouraged and several actions in game imply consent to PvP, including joining a guild or insulting someone. This last one is fairly subjective, so watch your mouth. NonPvP areas have been systematically made PvP so that the last NonPvP area left is the keep itself. There is currently some discussion about changing that as well.Leveling is still fairly easy, at least at the lower levels, but there is a very linear feel to it. You go from area to area as your level increases in a fairly predictable fashion. It is not quite as tracked as a Quake game, but there is still a railroading feel to it. Many players level one character after another to 40 and start over. Great if you like hack'n'slash or experimenting with builds but roleplay is somewhat hampered.

Unfortunately driller let good reviews go to his head last year when all this was posted. And thus began the great degeneration of Blackstone Keep. Eventually he go rid of all the good participating DMs you might have read about. He allowed PVP bullies to take over the Keep... so no... it is not at all what it once was. I was sad to see the lead DM changed and when that DM continued to do a great job dispite the uncalled for demotion ... false accusation was made by some and the DM booted from service. So no... not a fun place to play unless you like hack and slash or just getting PK'd by uber bored players who are at lvl 40. Signed Bunnicat.

Tried it out, didn't like it very much.
I'll admit it's easy for a beginner to get used to the server..but with all these custom things..you can, with alot fo cash, create chars which can hit anything and can't get hit.
This server at best is -Not- a RP server, come here if you wan to hack/slash and pretty much like WoW at times.

Blackstone Keep is by far the BEST server on the net. Since I started playing on BSK I have NEVER even considered looking at another server. I have much respect and gratitude for the Driller and his team that support the server and make it what it is.

Blackstone :- A rather unique world, This world is set on none of the DND world, It is the creation of the Module Creater . It uses Some very Unique ( to me at least) Scripts, The one that stands out is the Forge/socket stone Idea, where equipment can be enhanced depending on which stones you find or collect, I have played on and off Blackstone for 3 years or so, and find It light relief from some of the heavy Roleplay server's I sometimes play. Well done to all the staff involved with BSK.

Perhaps one of the best servers I have ever played on. A diverse world where a variety of playstyles can co-exist under one roof. Variety of custom critters to hunt. Variety of quests to challenge the players at all levels of skill. Variety of groups and clans for RP. Excellent job!
