Based on official source material, Forgotten Realms Cormyr (aka FRC) is a highly developed persistent world. Over the last three years, we have lovingly re-created the lands of Cormyr with a PnP flavored campaign adventure, where players are free to choose their destiny in the realm. When I used to play on Forgotten Realms Cormyr I remember it was fun to interact with the other players' characters. Some of the Dungeon Masters were also fun and consistently helpful, and some were just consistently awful. The awful ones, along with the frequent server crashes, were what made it "not quite fun enough" compared to the "big" NWN servers (Arelith, Amia, Prisoners of the Mist, etc).
Fortunately, most of the players (from my FRC experience) on FRC also play on other servers so the best part of FRC can be had on FRC or elsewhere too.

You have to be drunk or stupid not to enjoy this place. If you love Forgotten Realms then FRC is the place to be.

The server is well worth the visit. The playerbase is deep and varied at all times of day. Despite being an open world, the RP quality is actually quite good.
I have seen more and more people running, but perhaps they are new.
The scripted quests are fun and challenging enough to make you think twice about being alone, but solo-able.
I suppose my only complaint is that I have never seen one bit of DM interaction. Perhaps I am in the wrong timezone? (MST) Anyway, no worries, between the RP and scripted quests, all is good.
The server is beautiful. The area design is really good.

I wont vote quite yet, as I only played for a handful of hours. The RP was splendid and high quality. I didn't see one exception to the server rules (running, metagaming, etc.). The players were clever, helpful and fun.
This looks like a keeper. My only taste that seems incongruent with the server is that I prefer permadeath... but that isn't anything to vote down on. We'll see how things go and I'll vote when I am sufficiently educated on FRC.

Decent server.. one of the better ones out there but not the best..
if you come here bring friends .. mostlikely the high-levels and dm's will ignore the newb's.. tho thir are some players that try to help out news aswell. but thir few and far between..
Prepare to spend hours on end killing rats.. tho oddly one of the first quests you get will be to get something from rats .. the item you need is often guarded by 2-5 wererats with a dam redustion of -/10 wich means unless your a srt fighter or a mage your boned.. this server is not low level friendly you will often times spend your in-game time like this.... log in walk into tow get ignored by everyone while thir already in the group of people they rp with.. get tired if standing aroung. go to one of the low level area's (i suggest the crypts and bring a ranged weapon .. if you try melle you will die.. the zombies roll alot of crit hits) anyways after that you will go back into town rest go out to rp.. posiable get ignored...then head back to the crypts... or you might luck into a dm event .. that you as a newb will die in....so yeah.. you will spend alot of time powerleveling.. wich is hard cause he xp gain is harsh, just so you can get up a decent level to actully not be useless when the dm's start a quest.. tho spawning 300 Giant jello cubes of DHOOM!!! ..( im not jokeing thats what thir called) into the town aint much of a quest..
Dm favortisim is a factor here I've seen a group of "evil playyers run around the main town killing people... and just cause you dont want to pvp dosent mean you get to avoid it.. they will attack you.
also givin that shadowdancers are ban this seems to be a few running around.. i guess everything is avaliable if your friendly with a dm
the shops on the server are a joke.. you sell something to a vedor and leave and it despawns the vendor wipeing his invontory... me personally if a high level goes out and kills something for a magic item i could use i would like the option of seeing it on the vendor so that a lowlevel or someone wanting to but the item has a chance... also some times the Npcs wont spawn.. wich is annoying when you have a quest to turn in and thenpc wont spawn so you can turn it in.. so you spend 5 or 6 min running back and forth thru the transistion hopeing the npc will spawn
now i know ive put out alot of the bad things and it would be unfair not to point out the good so here goes..
the Rp is great if you can get people to notice you..( tho thir are alot of billy bad a$$ types there that would reather stab the newb then talk to it).. sorry .. slipped back into negativity land there .. sorry.. i'll try again..
tho one of the best things about the server is the amount of players.. thirs always atlest 6 on.. mabey one will actully talk to you before your level 10.
Quests.. good thing about the server.. lotsa quests.. tho some seem over powering for level ones ( see peviously mentioned wererats)
another good thing.. sort of.. is the fact that the difficulty rateing of the players and monsters are removed so no one knows what level anyone is.. but thats normaly fixed by all the kightlevels standing in the middle of tow fully buffed cause lag out the arse and walking around with giant glowing weapons..
wich leads me to another point.. this one is a bad thing.. the npc guards do nothing.... players run around killing each other infront of the town guard and they do nothing..
anyways.. yes this server has ALOT of annoying things about it but its still a good server.. i seem to keep comming back.. tho i never get above level 6 before i get sick of it and leave for a week.. but then i come back.... this server can get a 10 if things were fixed

Played here for 6 months to give things a chance, here are my observations.
RP- If you're personality and RP type get you into the in crowd, RP can be outstanding. If not, you'll spend a lot of time sitting around without much to do.
The game world itself was very well thought out and done. Hats off to the developers for this. There are plenty of quests to find and more areas to explore then you'll likely have the time to find.
Due to the module design, it is a very party oriented sever. Go out alone, and you're probably dead. Personally I thought the concept was great, it was just that finding a party could be difficult at times,(see cliquish comments).
DM's- In game interaction varies somewhat. On the positive side, I had several experiences where RP was well rewarded, and many off the cuff small quests were created for the low level types. Unfortunately some of DM's showed more of a tendancey towards slapping parties around fairly hard with no reward for the effort or RP involved and then demonstrating the "you should be happy for the attention" attitude. Attention and interaction are wonderful, but without risk vs. reward, it just feels like you're being slapped down for no reason. The big turn off for me DM wise though was seeing one of the DM's fawning over the current in crowd in the waiting room. Ironicly a few of these PC's managed to reach near epic levels in a matter of a few months on what is a fairly slow advancement server. Another annoyance was constantly being shouted at that it was an RP server with no indication of what was wrong. The ominous " This is an RP server" or "If you aren't going to follow the rules you should look for another server " shout was enough to make you paranoid. Sorry, I think it's much better if you let the individual responsible know what's going on. Maybe they don't get it and you could help someone along on their way to understanding what an RP server is about. If they don't, just ban them and get it over with.
Cliquish- big turn off for me was the level of cliquishness somewhat mentioned above. It seemed to me that many of the regular players were very cliquish and tended to snub many of the new folks as well as PC's that for whatever reason weren't worthy of their attention. Even when these players had various PC's of different levels, they would still stay focused on their core player group. Okay, maybe someone's RP is weak, or their style isnt the same as yours,maybe you could really help someone out by spending some time RPing with them and offering a few tells as pointers rather then walking off in the middle of a conversation because a member of your circle just walked up. I also found it very annoying to see PC's who had been involved IG with various evil factions, partying up and being best buds with people who were known to be active in opposing groups with no apparent consequences for their actions, and no real RP reason for doing it.
In closing, even though the server has some great potential, and a few outstanding DM's the above issues just made it too frustrating to play here much of the time. that was pretty much a game breaker for me. Sort of a shame considering the potential this place had.

Hands down best DM-team ive come across, totally immersive, hard-core RP, a large, very large, world covering the entire area of Cormyr in Forgotten Realms. If you liked PnP DnD, this has a lot of the same elements of party interaction, roleplay, and Dm stroy telling. Persistent campaign setting, allowing the full spectrum of character growth and interaction. Develop arch-nemesis', strong friendships, family ties, and then kill them!

I logged in tonight to try to get a forgotten realms fixed but instead all I got was my xp stripped and gold removed due to the hardcore rules. It is not a newbie friendly server, or a casual player friendly server. They make you go through quests in order to even get access to the town which quarantines you from RP. I can't stand servers that try to punish players and maybe I'm prejudging but I am not impressed and won't play again.

Play for 5 monthes and then travel for a week and not have access. I now know what addiction really means. I LOVE FRC. I am buying a new laptop just to be able to play when away from my desktop I love it that much.

Pros: Outstanding RP, you won't find any better; Huge emersive game world to explore; Staff is responsive and very helpful. Did I mention the great RP.
Cons: Current lag issues, but the staff is aware and working hard to fix it; Very difficult for low level characters, even with party help. Need skill, and lots of luck.. Even mid-level characters will struggle; Although the DM's try hard to be attentive, RP xp can be difficult to come by.
Overall I really like this server, yes progressions can be slow and frustrating,(have never been so happy to aquire a +1 sword),but the emersive RP has outweighed my frustration with the difficulty and occasional lag death.
I feel I have to be on this server a little more than a week and a half before I attempt to review/vote for it. However, I will say that the community of FRC is one of the best I've seen. I've been on a few persistent world servers and I find I can't play any other except this. The roleplaying is high, however, since no profiles/biographies are required this allows people who are new to roleplaying a chance to develope their roleplaying skills. I have been surprised how a character who has no description and is just trying the server out for a day comes back the next and posts a full fledged bio/profile on the FRC forums. Another thing to note is how players drive their own stories foward without having any DM attention. Upon finding out a DM will reward the player with experience points for their good efforts. Finally, this is the one roleplay heavy server where I don't doubt that I'll make my character go epic. Give it a shot and you'll be hooked. _________________________ ~Panros Lighttouch~

I have been on FRC now for 2 years and I have to say this is by far the best server I have ever tried and I tried a lot. Before I accidently found FRC I was completly unimpressed with what I saw out there. The players and the staff of FRC are some of the best people you could hope for in a multi-player game and it's kept me coming back for more again and again. Been playing on FRC for 2 years now and have to say there has been no other server even close to the balance and good people that I have run into over the past few years. I tried many and was never overly impressed until chance one day landed me here and I have been faithful ever since. Thanks for a great group of people and a really great staff at FRC you all rock!
