Ivodon Unified Skies & Weather Hak v0.90 by benton Purpose: The Ivodon Unified Skies & Weather Hak provides NWN world builders with 8 sky textures, a set of scripts which changes these textures based on the module's time and weather, and a Weather Control Wand which can be used in-game to set the different weather modes. Weather for the current area can be temporarily overriden by the wand, then restored back to the area's regular weather frequency pattern, which is configurable for each area. The basic idea and the textures for this hak are from DoyleyBoy's fine 'Doyleyboy's High res Day/Night/Weather skies BETA 2'. Thanks a bunch, DoyleyBoy! This hak also requires Brandon's Camera 'Hak' to be useful, in order to extend the view distance far enough to see the sky. If you've never tried this gem before, you don't know what you're missing. Both of these can be found here on the Vault.
I have the HotU expansion, run the module and changed the setting ##unlockcamera=1 and ##setfogdistance=25, still I can see nothing but fog :( Is this a problem for having the HotU expansion? Help please? This hak is quite a good idea if I can use it... :)

The fog is adjustable (in SoU anyway) with a console command "##setfogdistance 275"

I have SoU and Doyleyboy's skies work, getting a CPU hit because of the HiRes but the skies are wonderful.

auxois regal,
I don't know whether it works with SoU, since I don't own the expansion. I understand that many of the pre-SoU hacks do not work with SoU, but many do, so since I can't test it, I'm afraid I can't help you there.
Once I get SoU (probably in a couple of weeks), I will revisit this work and update it.

Benton,
Thanks for the outstanding work! Also, thanks squared for the tip about renaming the packer.exe file to .zip.
Like Blackrazor, I really hate the things, I usually have run the thing and then tried to go find all the files and re-archive them. You've save me lots of tedium.

Attention all sky-watchers:
An alert user has discovered a currently-undocumented bug which exists in DoyleyBoy's Skies Beta 2 HAK, and in all HAKs derived from it (currently benton's "Ivodon Unified Skies & Weather", and DarkElfPoet's "WeatherSim 2.0"). The problem is that whenever the rendered sky effect is applied, PCs are unable to drag an item from their inventory onto the ground to drop it, and are also unable to drag an item onto another PC's avatar to initiate bartering. Both of these actions can still be accomplished by right-clicking on the ground, or on the other PC, and then using the radial menu, though this makes dropping or offering an item a two-step process. In indoor areas where no sky is rendered, item drag-and-drop behaves normally.
DoyleyBoy, do you have any idea what might be causing this? The bug occurs when any of the sky effects is applied, with the exception of effect number 318 (the empty, "indoors" effect), which is the only effect in the .2da patch NOT associated with a MDL resource. Is it possible that when the bug occurs, the Aurora engine is somehow trying to drop the item onto the sky model instead of onto the desired target?
Any other effects experts out there want to take a guess as to why this is happening? I have posted a help request to the Bioware forums as well.

Oh, sorry, I did have one complaint...I hate the "packer". I like to manualy (sp?) move my files around. Normaly I wont even install from a hak "packer", but I'll make an exception...This is only an opinion about the "packer" not about your work...Thanks.

Hello, all.
There's a small mistake in the original README file for this hak. In step 8 of the installation instructions, if your module's OnActivateItem script needs to be modified, the original ivodonskies09.txt file directs you to insert the line
ExecuteScript("isk_activateitem");
This statement is not quite aorrect. In fact, the line
ExecuteScript("isk_activateitem", OBJECT_SELF);
should be inserted. The second function argument, OBJECT_SELF, is necessary for the script to compile.
This issue does not affect you if you're using isk_activateitem itself as your module's OnActivateItem script.
I have fixed the readme, both in the above link, and the one in the archive, but it will take some time for the updates to show here on the Vault. My apologies for any inconvenience.

Ivodon
Would it be possible to separate your weather wand from the rest of the hak pack (I`m assuming it would work on its own)? I have a slow connection and would like to just use the wand.
Thanks,
Vox

Hey, just wanted to drop a note to say thanks for your hard work. Like you, I worked on Doyle's beta 2 hak for about 6 hours and was unable to work it into my project in a manner that was satisfactory. Reading your description, I feel you have achieved what I was aiming to accomplish. (whew) Therefore I will gladly download your work and hope to use it in my project. Thanks to you and all the fine folks who share things on the vault. You save us all a great deal of time with your thoughtful consideration in uploading your work. I must also commend you on the clarity and maturity of your responses to those who have sought your attention on this subject. The amount of childish flaming and senseless negative-feedback has seemed to be on the rise. I am glad to see this thread has not taken that tone. Good work all and may your projects all be enjoyed by those fortunate enough to share them with you.

Thanks for your comments, gents.
@Nimpo: This hak adds several features not in Doyle's:
1) In this version, the sky texture changes are coordinated with the weather changes. In the Beta 2, they are unrelated, so you get snow or rain coming out of a clear sky.
2) Also, my system implements coordinated weather and sky texture control from within the game, through a Weather Control Wand. The wand provides seven coordinated sky and weather combinations. When you're don using the wand, it will revert the weather back to it's natural, random cycle, based on the same percentages you normally set when authoring each area.
3) Another freature is that I've added is the ability to change how often any given area rolls is weather dice again, so you can easily create areas whose weather changes rapidly, like an island, and areas where the weather almost never change, like a desert. Even Bioware doesn't provide this level of weather control.
4) I developed this package for ease of use and incorporation. I spent a couple of hours trying to get Doyle's working, i decided to crack open his script to see what was going on. Anyway, in the end, I basically rebuilt all the script from the ground up, and added quite a few features, as I hope you'll now see. This package has a start-to-finish, site-by-step README, and is packaged with the NWN content installer. Currently, I beleive the Beta 2 hak isn't evein in one place -- it needs a 2da patch in addition to the HAK.
This is not in any way to reflect badly on Doyle's excellent effort -- that's why I give him full credit and thanks in the README and description. This HAK just takes the idea a bit further.

Blacknight - I agree. In essence your forcing a player to use a 3rd party hack. And to me thats not a good SOP. It just casues headaches and issues for the less then technical inclined players.
It looks nice, I give them that. But as you said not very practicle in most cases IMO.

So, uhm, whats the difference between this one and Doyle's? All I see here is Doyle's Hakpak with your name on it re-released.
