****Filename: SS_Music**** I've been writing music for various tilesets lately, and those pieces that are not being used exclusively for private PW's, I have decided to post publicly. My influences are primarily Vangelis, Debussy and Joe Hisashi (composer for Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away), so there may be a similarity to their music. This music collection ranges from ambient evil atmospherics to stately classical themes. If you download the music, please respond (positive or negative) and give people some idea of how you might descibe it. The 'Read Me' contains a .wav file of one of the pieces, as an example. I will be more than happy to create custom themes for private PWs should you want them (e-mail me please), as well as fullfilling requests from the general community.
To install the music, export the BMU files from the hak into the NWN/MUSIC directory. Then place the ambientmusic 2da into the override folder. I used the HOTU ambientmusic 2da as a base, so I assume only HOTU users can use the 2da without editing it.
Since this site will be updated with new music that I don't need, I will update these descriptions everytime I upload any new pieces. Total of contained music files: (15). Last updated: 3-21-04

Just to add, I did not mean that this music could not be suitable for NWN. I usually prefer having the standard Orchestral arrangements that we're all familiar will, what with the Bioware music. But of course, there are definitely going to be mods that this will be suitable for (and that had to be said :) ). Heh, i'm currently writing some J-Pop tracks for a mod im working on that the mo, so I can't really talk about music not fitting the "norm"!
Anyway, great work, keep it up :D

Just thought i'd add my comments on these.
Personally, the intrumentation, the tendancy towards using "synthesized" sounding tones and not real (or just sampled) instruments, just doesn't cut it for me. The melodies and arrangements though, from a textural point of view, are really good, but there are some parts where it definitely sounds too thin (for instance, White Towers. Really would have helped to have possibly a french horn playing the melody line, and the snare should have been brought out more (and its volume tweaked to sound more realistic)).
I do agree, these did sound more polished than quite a few tracks i've got from the Vault (heh, gotta hide my one quick!), but there are some issues that I think you should take a look at, if you're interested.
Also, some mastering would have been good on some of the tracks but well...with the stunning toolsets you keep churning out, maybe that can be left on the backburner :P
I'd recommend getting hold of some VSTi's, or using a sampler for doing strings and horns. I like using both personally, but other people have their preferences either way. Theres certainly plenty of low cost / free resources available, you've just got to look around.
:D I like the Karma myself (though sadly dont own one). I think the tracks sound really good, I just find the instrumentation doesn't really fit into NWN.
All in all though, good job :D

I've just finished listening and I'm very impressed. Let me get my tiny annoyance out the way first and I'll give you better comments.
The one problem is that you seem to be very fond of chimes, they're great here and there but I think they're a bit over used in this. Especially in the Underdark track.. somehow I can't see little silver bells in the underdark.
Other than that, excellent, my favourites would be White Towers, Bazaar, Redshade, Silverbranch, Azteca (very cool!) and Mirador because it reminds me of a snes game intro, can't think which one.
Overall, I really enjoyed the compilation. I am on the developing team of a pw and I might just get in touch with you about a theme later ;)
Thanks,
Tasmarin

This is amazing and well worth the DL... it's perfect adventuring music. Lodrezzon's talent just won't quit.
I ve started a Epic Module With ALL of Lod's Haks. This is My way of actually making a module and showing off Lodrezzons work. This has to be a massive mod to justify the massive downloads that Lodrezzon has graciously supplied to us modders. Why Am I telling yall this? Because I'm certain fail without help. If any Modders Good or bad wish to assist Email me. I don't wantt top of the line modders I want people that wish to learn and have fun Like Lodrezzon. I would even love to wrangle Lodrezzon for this but he's probally busy enough. (I WOULD NOT TURN YOU AWAY THO) So Emial Me if your interested. I'm going to post this in all of Lod's hak pages to get more people interested and to let Lod know this being done. And To Lodrezzon, If you want the post to go elsewhere IE not on your pages let me know I'll go elsewhere. Be cool Folks

I'm soo tired... sorry for the misspells..."Back in the box, ye wild 2da little beasties!"
"I try so hard to behave like a lady but hopping up on stools in fear of rodents, fainting at the sight of blood or giving in to other such silly, advantageous behavior is not my first priority."
aka "MiriRawnie"
I've listened to each track twice, so here goes. Forgive me for being a bit visual, but that's how I am with music.
Hidari-- This was the first track that I listened to and I think this would be perfect with an underwater tileset. The first sound is almost like hitting the water and then the soft background noises remind me of whale echos. I see mermaids playing harps, sitting on gigantic seashells and colorful fish swimming by. Glimmerings of an Atlantean city or underwater ruins can probably be seen in the background.
Morning Light-- Its funny, but this one makes me think of Rockwell paintings. An old couple sitting on a porche swing sipping lemonade on a hot summer's night, kids out in the street playing ball or riding bikes. Someone going over memories in a photo album. Good times long past.
Red Shade-- Also has the possiblity for underwater, but I'm always brought back to secret groves and shady forest areas. I can see a sunrise or sunset laced with magic. Dancing fey and woodland creatures barely caught in perephial vision.
This track would also be great for a futuristic setting with lots of spaceage technology. Mulder and Scully (X-Files) could be arguing or hinting at something romantic with this music in the background.
Temples--This one and Red Shade make me think of a more futuristic setting and I don't know why. Much like discovering a new planet or the birth of the star, something just on the tip of your tongue. A renewal or begining.
Underdark--Is much like its name implies. Walking down an alley in the dead on night, wondering if your going to get jumped. This one is filled with paranoia and a bit of fear of the unknown. I can see a motely bunch of adventureres readying thier weapons and spells in order to battle something particularly nasty. (Only to find out that its a barbaric sprite with PMS. ;) J/K! )
White Towers--I keep on thinking of the credit music for the first Vampire Hunter D. When I finally get D walking that stupid white horse out of my head, I can clearly see a large castle making itself ready for a lord or lady; cleaning out the stables, washer women throwing out pales of dirty water or beating rugs and drapes, various smells and sounds coming from the kitchen as the cook plays miestro in harassing the underlings with his wooden spoon.
DemonDance--is actually pretty low key in comparison with its title. I think of caravans or coy gypsies plying their trade on ususpecting journey men. "A silver piece good Sir, and I will show you your future," she would purr to them, closing her long nails over the crystal ball much like the talons of a falcon and offer each one a dazzling smile.
Hordes-- Would prove a good follow up to "Underdark" in battling that viscious little sprite. (See my stupid sprite joke above.) It jumps off that same paranoia platform without being too melodramatic or irrating like some of the battle music from the OC. In this its heightened and it makes you want to beat the snot out of Tinkerbell... >ahem< I mean pull a Conan on a few fists of Dead.
Omir--This music would go best with an Egyptian tileset. See Jackal's post below for more.
Silverbranch--Sounds a lot like background music for "Civilization" so I am constantly thinking of world building. To me, this one would be the best for an asian style adventure, filled with kimonos, tea houses, monks and equistly crafted gardens.
The Bazaar--is a fitting name for this track. It evokes all of the images of an arabian marketplace. What Jackal says below is good enough for me so I'm not going to paraprhase him.
Werberger--is one of my favorites because it reminds me of a gothic Ireland. There is nothing but rain and rolling green grass as far as the eye can see with dark churches standing sentinel over silvery pools of water.
I'm going to go bang my head on a keyboard now. Hope this is what you wanted, Sir Lod. ;)

Have no fear, =). I wrote a lot of music, assuming different people would have different tastes, and not everyone would like every track. Some of the oddness associated with several of the tracks was due to a request by the Menzo guys, who didn't want "earthly" sounding music. So odd is what they got. Thanks again for the reviews. Since you can't post a picture with music, and making a compiltation "song" would take longer than I want to spend on it, I just want the average guy passing by to know the music wasn't created by a 3rd grader. (A lot of the self-made music on the vault is not made with great care).
PS: I use a Korg Karma, great for analog synth sounding stuff, but all horn / brass sounds stink. (Thus my avoidance of the brass sounds.)
Hmmm, most of these tracks are kind of hard to describe. Out of the 12 tracks i downloaded, 8 were a bit of a blur and had similar "synthy" sounds. If the game had elevators i may consider adding them. :P
4 tracks stuck out above the rest:
Whitetowers - sort of a laid back "on the way home from battle" kinda thing going, the snare giving it just a touch of a military feel. My favorite track.
Omir - If you mixed Gary Numan's Cars(that cracking drum sound he uses) with the Jaws theme and had a bunch of middle eastern guys play it, that's Omir. Would be good for a desert trek area. I liked this one.
The Bazzaar - I picture snake charmers when listening to this one. Definately, a desert city track. Good sounding.
Silverbranch - Reminds me of middle '80's synth band O.M.D. for some reason. At 2 mins 45 seconds, the longest track. Don't know where i'd use this one, maybe in a town or just in a "roaming" area. Another very good sounding track.
So out of 12 tracks, 4 were very good and the other 8....err,well, i hope that keyboard wasn't one of them $5000 ones, cos you could of got them same sounds from a Korg X3. :P
Of course some may feel i'm being a bit too critical considering, these are free. But Lodrezzon wanted an honest opinion, so i threw in my 2 cents.
Suggestions: More brass, lots of horns for some epic "on the way to battle" themes. Some Celtic sounding music would be a nice addition.
Lodrezzon, i have always appreciated your contributions to the NWN community. Just because i only liked 4 tracks, doesn't make the rest of them bad. They just weren't what i was looking for.
Current Version is 3vb, which I'm finally happy with. I needed to make a few gain normalization changes to even out the volumes between the various files.

It is not working. I am not sure if you can put bmu files into haks. I think it must go into the music folder. Anyway I export the bmu into the music folder but when I tried it again all the slow gets a BADSTREFF.
Anyway I converted the bmu into mp3 to listen to the music and I love it. Keep it coming. Would be nice to have one with a medievil human military theme.
