Title  Oriental Interior Tileset v1.0
Author  coulisfu
Submitted / Updated  10-21-2003 / 01-24-2004
Category  Tilesets
Expansions  SOU-1.30
Description
Update to v1.1 : cahnge a problem with hieght transition in the set file, was causing some problems on some versions of the game.

Oriental Interiors to match my oriental rural tileset. This is an extremley simple interior tileset with an oriental feel. There are two floor terrains (noble/temple), a screen divider crosser, a corridor crosser and then all the required door/stairs features. The placables in the screenshot are not included in the hak, but my oriental rural tileset has some interior placables you can use. All the tiles are very low poly(average tile poly count -165). Let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions.

NOTE - The stairs up and stairs down tiles were designed to use my sliding doors, using normal doors will clip through the stairs... (sorry!)

This is simply amazing work. I'm a huge fan.

A question for the creator or for others with an interest in oriental themes:

Has anyone built an oriental bath? I'm thinking of something based on the raised platform, with steam coming off the water and walkable to allow PCs to enter and exit, but I'd settle for an appropriately sized shallow round tub at this point.

Again, many kudos to the creator of this great mod.

Coulisfu, as always, amazing...

I have now started making the first few bits of a Japanese PW, so I have a few comments.

1) Like someone else said, it would be great if we could have more control over the floor, ie whether it be Tatami, wooden corridor or tatami with wooden edges. At the moment I am using CEP placeable tatami to get up to the walls and tables at negative heights to run the corridors where I want them.

2) On a related note... A single tatami placeable and a half-tatami placeable would be super. I want to be able to recreate my old house in Japan as close as possible and my rooms were six tatami, six tatami and 4.5 tatami, so they had different layouts to your floors, and the CEP let's you place a minimum of 2 at once if I remember correctly. Am I too ambitious ;-)

3) A placeable interior wall would be fantastic. At the moment I have been using the Japanese window from CEP and putting two of them back to back with each other to create placeable interior partitions, but it is far from ideal. Maybe the texture you used for the walls could be put onto a placeable? You would not be able to put doors into it very easily (if at all), but actual wall tiles would be unrealitically thick for a thin interior wall.

There is probably more to say, but I'll come back later maybe. Many thanks for making a Japanese PW at least possible, I could never do the things you are doing, so hopefully I can do the next best thing and create a world out of the things you have made.

Loking forward to the oriental city tileset you promise on your website and to anything and everything else you make.

I've made a start on a set of oriental portraits, so maybe one day you can link to it from your website :)

Thanks again!

I'm having a problem with some of the graphics in this tile set. All transition doorways are bright white and the wall dividers for the temple are white too, but the wall dividers for the Rich House are showing up just fine. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

What the hell is going on here, i cant find youre site!! :)

Hi Coulisfu,
I absolutely love this tileset, though I have a suggestion:

Please add more to it! You only have temple and rich insides- how about workshops & poor houses?

Keep up the good work!

Posted by coulisfu at 2004-02-26 15:07:00
Hmmm... Yes it appears that some of the doors have been aligned inncorrectly, I'll get that fixed.

Thanks for spotting that, cheers.

I've noticed a problem with the doors in this tileset. The doorways seem to mount all of the doors backward. The directional arrows point out of the room, causing the PC to spawn in facing out. This seems to be the case with all doors (custom and standard BW) and with both the noble and temple tiles (although I haven't checked the corner doorways yet).

This would definatley improve the tileset, and give greater flexability to builders, originally Its the way it is due to time restrictions.

But... this hakpak is sorely due an update, I have lots of ideas I would like to throw in there, including maybe new terrains for castles and rural buildings found in the Oriental Rural Tileset. I'm also thinking of adding in some raise/lower possibilities to the set, as well as some larger door entrances too.

Its all about time! Hopefully I will get the opportunity to improve on this!

Cheers for the suggestions.

The noble tile is mixed by tatami and wooden boards(ITAMA). If you have time, I would like you to make:
-the tatami tile (not mixed with wooden boards) and
-the ITAMA tile (not mixed with tatami).

There are two set files becuase there are in theory two tilesets included in the hak. They are identical bar the fact one has minimap icans the other does not.

Read the read me file, all the info is in there under the heading a word on using the tilesets.

If you only want to use one you can remove the other from the hak.

Posted by Leafhair ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-11-16 21:06:00
Quick question: Why are there 2 set files? Is there a difference between them? One is a whomping 5 bytes larger than the other so I figure there's one small difference. If one is redundant or out-dated, could you tell me which so I can take it out and make sure all my builders use the same one? Thanks.

Damn! i love your stuff!!

Unundindur

If you are using one of the rural\forest combo's with adjusted hights there is a good chance the hak's author re-used Bioware filenames and broke the standard Rural Tileset by doing so. DOA's Rural Tileset is guilty of this sin. :P

Posted by coulisfu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-24 16:45:00
Got a pic you could send me?

Posted by Unundindur ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-24 15:31:00
Well, I experienced a problem.

I think it has to do with the "hills" terrain.

When I don't add a "hill" to a cliff, a large transparent field shows atop of the cliff, like if the "hill" should be higher.

This problem occured both in the oriental-rural and the normal rural when I had the 1.2 version installed.

Is there any fix for this?

anyways, I love your work!

Posted by imanujakku ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-23 11:37:00
dammit man i just checked out your webpage again and everytime i do there are more great looking things in progress that i NEED to have and i just checked it 2 days ago and already there is something new there. rice fields ! . ah well maybe i will take a crack at making CNR fit a bit more with an oriental flavor while i wait for the complete package.i was trying to make a oriental base mod but that obviously will have to wait until you are done with all your haks. don't you have a mod to build at some point ? :D j/k keep them coming.

Posted by coulisfu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-23 05:32:00
I'm actually quite happing working solo to be honest, feels like I'm a lone gunman on a one man mission to change NWN into the orient! But there are others making content of this nature, as I'm sure you've seen some of lisa clothes (kimonos and monk outfits) and forges/eligios weapon paks. I heard there are some other things in the works, I'm still hoping Aethelwyn will finish off her armour set and I know there are at least a couple of people working on placables and maybe even another tileset.

Japanese castles by the by are not going well! my first attempts are looking rather awful!

Sounds sets, forgot about that! I will be putting together some loadscreens too at some point probably a joint pak for both my oriental rural and interiors.

Thanks for taking an interest.

Posted by Unundindur ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-23 03:02:00
Hehe.. i was just about to suggest you making some oriental great armours and kabutos, and you already said you was planning on some "clothing", PERFECT!

Along with my previous suggestions there is NO oriental sound sets (for PC's at least). If you catch my point you see that 1 evil sneaky would be very highly appreciated and 1 good and 1 evil noble voice would be cool.

That is, if you ever get finished creating all these other gorgeous things!

Have you ever though about getting a team to help you? Your ideas and preception is exceptional but being a single person all these projects can be a heavy burden... CODI or some other group would surely have you with them (my guess).

Keep up the great work, and I look forward to your japanese fortress (I assume it will be kind of a Shogun citadel!).

TATA!

hehe i'm hopping for some loadscreens for your great tilesets;)

keep it up

Posted by coulisfu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-22 11:50:00
imanujakku, hey sorry about that! Just when you think its safe to open the toolset out pops another oriental hak :)

The bad news/good news is I have even more stuff planned!

Heads, Clothes, Portraits, Music and a few other bits and pieces.

Posted by coulisfu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-22 11:46:00
Okay, even though this tileset does not use hieght transition I left in there just incase I might need it in the future. Silly me, I set it to 1.5 which on certain versions of the game. Its fixed and should work for everyone now.

Thanks for spotting the problem Kerovan I owe ya one.

Cheers.

Posted by Kerovan ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-22 11:23:00
Here is the error: "'1.5' is not a valid floating point value. I used only your hakpak, my nwn is: SOU 1.30 PL. Thanks for attention:)

Posted by imanujakku ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-10-22 10:54:00
Coolisfu you have to stop releasing all this good stuff. i start building a mod then i have to scrap it because you release another Oriental Mod must have that makes me want to redo everything i've done.:D awesome work per usual . . keep them coming.
