This is a placeable animated model of our solar system. The idea is to add atmosphere to an area, particularly something like a wizards labarotory. Real orreries are constructed with the planets at the end of motorized arms. In this one the planets are free floating so it can be considered a 'magical' orrery. I made it as accurate as possible, but if you know something about the scale of our universe, a lot of scaling has to be done to put everything in a viewable range. The orbits are eliptical and the planets tilted but they don't spin on their axis. Again, if the planets spun in the right speed relative to their orbits, they would be spinning too fast to see. I am also working on a more fantastic orrery which would include the animated arms but will bear no resemblance to our universe. There are three versions in the hak; they are identical except for different orbital speeds. The models look the best when in a darkened area.
To make the animations long enough to have Pluto complete an orbit would have made a huge model file. Instead the animation will reset before then making a brief discontinuity in the animation. Asssuming the game is running on the 2minutes/hour time scale, this will be after the following approximate times: Orreryslow - 128 minutes Orrery - 32 minutes Orreryfast - 8 minutes Of course this is only possible with the following great tools; NWN Viewer by Zoligato Waylands's Import/Export script for gmax mdl2ascii.exe gmax To use the orrery, just put the hak in your hak directory. The hak contains the following files: placeables.2da model files tga files (textures) Add the erf file to the erf directory. Then add the hak to your module and import the erf blueprints to easily get everything in the toolset. They will show up on the Custom Placeable tab under Miscellaneous Interior.

Amazing and wonderous -- nothing else like it. I see no problem using the solarsystem model and calling it something else or reskinning it *shrugs* i like it.

I'm sure a lot of hard work went into making this. I personally am new to D&D (on NWN obvoisly), and I like the fact that it can be in any location. I am currently making my own module (either Action or PW, depending on how I can script) that takes place on Earth in a futuristic setting, which this placeable very useful to me. Thanx for this wonderful hak.

Lovely! Though it would be better if it came also in more sizes. Unfortunately, the download is too big to add it in a module just for atmoshere.

This is beautiful. Saturn's rings should be slightly translucent, to make them stand out a little less.

"Very nice. I would, however, have to point out one simple fact. D&D is not set on Earth."
I find it hilarious how the D&D newbies like "BlackMageJawa" consider themselves experts of D&D just because they've played NWN and assume that Forgotten Realms is the only 'legal' setting for D&D.
Nevermind the fact he probably isn't even aware of Greyhawk...

Actually D&D is set anywhwere the DM decides to create a world for players to play in. After many many years of DMing I have never set a campaign either on Earth or in Faerun. I have always created my own worlds and lands. There have certainly been many campaigns by others on alternate Earths.
I do, however, agree that Earth is low on the list of choices for D&D campaigns. My reasons for modeling our solar system had nothing to do with the above. In many ways it was just a modeling exercise, but once complete I decided to post it in case someone could use it. One easy modification for a user would be to re-skin the worlds where it does not look like our solar system any more. Otherwise, as mentioned in the description I may return to this project one day and model a more 'fantastic' system.

Very nice. I would, however, have to point out one simple fact. D&D is not set on Earth.
Faerun is located on the planet Abertoril. Which is not in our Solar System. In fact, according to the Spelljammer setting, Toril is surrounded by a crystal sphere, itself surrounded by radioactive Phlogiston. Making this orrery somewhat innacurate to the average Realms dweller.

What a bunch of horse manure, everybody knows that the sun and stars rotate AROUND THE EARTH, WHICH IS FLAT BY THE WAY YOU IGNORANT TWAT!!!

Their Orrey is called "GLOBE" and it is under Trades,Academic&Farm placeables - it is either a sun with 3 planets or a yellow planet with 3 moons. The moons are on prongs making it very mechanical-ish. In either case - it is not animated and the "moons" are cubes rather than spheres, and nothing is textured to look very planetary - but I still like it too. :)

Thanks for the comments. I had a lot of fun working on it and learned a lot (about modeling and astronomy).
Lost Dragon, that is exactly what I am thinking of. A small mechanized orrery with fewer planets but more dramatic. It will probably be a while since I have some other projects to finish first.
Daemon, I have too many ideas on my backlog and not enough time that I don't really need any requests. However, if you have a good idea, put it out there. Maybe it will be more interesting than what I am working on now. Or maybe someone else will pick it up.
Lisa, I have to admit not spending much time playing SOU yet. Where is the orrery? Is it a placeable in the toolset or part of a tile somewhere?

This is very cool, I love Orrery's of all kinds - especially animated! I love it :) Bio put a miniature one in SoU but it wasn't animated :( (maybe you could fix that one too?)
Great job.

FANTASTIC Great Job! I cant wait to see the next batchdo you take custom requests?

Wow, cool. I would like to see a small inaccurate version that features a sun and maybe 2 or 3 (fantasy) planets and a couple moons. :) Neat stuff.
