Title  Rust Monster (Animated) v1.1
Author  Fenmarel&BrentAnderson&ElMagnificoUno
Submitted / Updated  07-04-2003 / 01-01-2010
Category  Creatures
Expansions  SOU-1.30
Description
This is an UPDATE of the collective work that I (Fen), Brent Anderson and El Magnifico Uno have done to bring you the much dreaded Rust Monster. Included in this update are portraits (.2da) and appearance (.2da) files so that things are a bit more proper. I've also included an .erf file that has the beast setup as per the 3e Monster Manual. See the README.TXT for detailed installation instructions. Enjoy! Credits: Model, texture and portrait by Fenmarel, Animation by Brent Anderson and scripting by El Magnifico Uno

Additional notes on the scripted rust mechanic originally authored by Loredemil and September then updated to its current form by El Magnifico Uno ([email protected]): The scripts not only provide for the chance of destroying any metal objects used to strike it, but also give the rust monster the ability to sense metal items on the ground. Anything laying on the ground it will 'sniff'. Things that it determines as being metal it will 'eat'.

Not D&D without a rust monster, now is it?

Thanks!

Truly excellent work - a must have. Model, animations, and skin are all top-notch; El Magnifico Uno's item-destroying script is the foundation upon which I have built many more item-destroying critters in my assorted modules. Thanks for the wonderful addition to the NWN bestiary!

Put this little bad boy in my last module.
Players of Pnp knew right away what that beast was and ran like little girls out of the room. The poor nub that charged in hack with his sword.....
Fantastic work.

Those responsible for the creation of this little beast have clearly put a lot of love and effort into it.
Knowing basically zero about D&D, I wasn't familiar with the Rust Monster until it entered NWN but have found it useful for a few different purposes here and there.
Nicely done - Here's vote 20. 5 more to go!

Aaaaaah! Run away! Run away!

These are great. Nothing says D&D like the humble rust monster.

One of the best monster additions to NWN ever... hands down. Great work!

Actually we have re done the scripts for this awesome beasty, we have added special lines of code that you can exclude certin weapons say being high magical items that in reality shouldnt be destroyed by the Rust Monsters attack We have also added in lines of code that lets you see what item the Rust monster is trying to attack, floating text appears over the Rust monster as hes attacking you. We will be releasing the scripts in our Mod for Eye of the Beholder. and most likly a script release on the vault for anyonje that would like to use the new updated scripts.

Thanks for this awesome model. I got a quick feedback note, the scripts work well. Actually to well. They destroy all weapons that hit them even though you should only be destroying metal weapons. Test it out with the staff and club both of which should all wooden. I think there needs to be a wood check prior to destruction. Other than that this is awesome. Whats your next project.

Thankyou for your work, it is truly awe inspiring to see the effort put into developing this rusty old fellow into the creature it should be. Gygax, if he were reading this, would be proud of this, and should be.

Good idea, but don't use a timer, just have limit to the number of items in the list, and pust the item at the top out.

say, dumb insect, 10 items. a simple linked list structure would work, prefilling with blank items, or some such.

I love the rust monster, gotta see this model in action...

Irritatus....

muhuhahah!

Nice work.
