Title  Superset Creatures *SS_Creatures**
Author  Lodrezzon
Submitted / Updated  01-17-2004 / 04-12-2004
Category  Combos - Creatures
Expansions  Requires Both Expansions (SoU & HotU)
Description
****Filename: SS_Creatures**** CURRENT VERSION: v2 ****This is the creature collection I've assembled for use in my world. There are no new models, only the best of what I've found posted on the vault. Many thanks to the model designers and editors who've made this compilation possible. Included are: various sized dragons, beetles, spiders, vipers, horses, demons, trogs, bulette, sea hag, treant, gnolls, golems, minotaurs, ashabi, angel, giants, etc... (a lot of models). A complete list is in the 'Read Me' link. I've taken only what I've felt are the necessary models from large collections such as dragons, giants and horses. Many of the models have been renamed, so you may have to take a quick look through the list to see what you've actually got. Various 2das included. The file size is very large ( 85mb packed / 312mb unpacked). Enjoy!

NOTE: v2 is up and is updated for 1.62! During my recent computer virus experience, I lost both the original and back-up appearance 2da's for v1 of this file, so I cannot confirm 100% compatibility. I have tried my best to maintain compatibility, but since Bioware added some content to the appearance 2da, I can't guarantee it. Use care when exchanging the v2 for v1. I've fixed many of the missing portrait associations in the creature creation list, with only a few NPCs left unassociated.

The 'Read Me' file contains a complete list of all contained models. New additions for v2 are: Spoonmerlins Flying Snakes, Temcgill's Yetis, ShadowM's Insects, Magma's Erinyes and Danmar's Grimlocks.

Could you be a little more specific on what is in this hak?

Posted by Vyce at 2006-03-07 07:39:17
I wholeheartedly agree with that survey even though I never saw it take place..even though I have been involved in nwn since its release. I would love to see continued releases of work such as this.

Just a reminder on why my files are so large... Way back when, when I was first creating these beasts, I did extensive online surveys as to whether people wanted massive files of the highest quality or reasonable sized files will less content/lower quality. At the time, there were a SLEW of combo creators making lower quality haks or haks with a smaller quantity of material. The resounding request from me was to provide the highest quality, largest quantity haks that I was willing to create SPECIFICALLY for people creating PWs. There were extensive discussions on the difficulty of dial-up users being able or willing to download several gigs of info from the material I offered (should you use all of the material I created), and the overwhelming consensus was that quality and variety were the ONLY thing people were worried about. Thus my reason for creating such massive files. I understand dial-up players have problems with obtaining the material, which I have always appologized for, but since I was only able to offer one version of each hak due to my own time constraints, what you see is what was the OVERWHELMING request was at the time. Thanks again for appreciating the work.

Awesome work

I'd have to disagree with you on people downloading. When I played ALFA, which had hundreds of players, we had to download somewhere near 500+ megs of haks. A couple much bigger than this one. Though I'd like to see smaller sizes myself, for my dial up players, this isn't out of line for PW's or even campaigns, where you need the variety.

No offense to the SuperSet series, this stuff is great work! But there is a reason why people dont use super hi ress textures on everything. As with all other SS haks, this one is too large to put into any realistic module or Persistent world in which you exepct other people to download.

For personal use this stuff is wonderful, for anything else its near worthless and combining this hak with some of the other SS haks makes for a truly insane amount of Hard Drive space considering the reletive quantity (but not quality) of the content.

Looking through the readme list i didn't see any really unusual names. All seems pretty much 1st ed AD&D to me, Which is EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.

No need to rename anything. You've even got flying books in here! Wow!

I was just about to undertake the process of trying tocmbine 40+ haks for my new server upgrade.

You've saved me months of work.

Thanks, man, thanks a lot, This whole series is going into Land of Etarnon (roleplay).

Can't you move the names back to "official" names? Yes, this would mean that people have to edit any custom monsters; but this one-time pain is offset by better usability for any new users and future modules.

As for the requests, those are the better-looking ones IMO. There are many nice but somewhat flawed models out there.

To Every Lodrezzon Fan

I ve started a Epic Module With ALL of Lod's Haks. This is My way of actually making a module and showing off Lodrezzons work. This has to be a massive mod to justify the massive downloads that Lodrezzon has graciously supplied to us modders. Why Am I telling yall this? Because I'm certain fail without help. If any Modders Good or bad wish to assist Email me. I don't wantt top of the line modders I want people that wish to learn and have fun Like Lodrezzon. I would even love to wrangle Lodrezzon for this but he's probally busy enough. (I WOULD NOT TURN YOU AWAY THO) So Emial Me if your interested. I'm going to post this in all of Lod's hak pages to get more people interested and to let Lod know this being done. And To Lodrezzon, If you want the post to go elsewhere IE not on your pages let me know I'll go elsewhere. Be cool Folks

Posted by Lodrezzon at 2004-04-17 19:11:00
Bart... As far as naming... =/. I made the hak originally for my own world, and the creature names in the list correspond to the names of the creatures in my mods. With the list as long as it is, I know it can be a pain to find things like the Gelugon. For that I'm sorry.

I haven't yet looked at the CEP, as I've been swamped with other work. As I love to add great content, I will be sure to look at your requests, and as long as the models look decent, you can expect them in my next update =)

Posted by Bartmoss ( 212.202.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-04-17 11:23:00
I like your superset collections better than cep. Anyway, I have a criticism and some requests for the creature pack.

Criticism: Why did you rename many creatures to odd names? Kind of makes them difficult to spot.

Requests: For creatures, CEP seems to have some goodies you are lacking. Is it possible that you include some of the cooler ones in your next update? The ghost pirate, pirate skeletons and pirate zombies; the animated furniture, the Belker, the cats + dogs, the snakes, the alternate elementals, the shade, the variant orcs, the xorn, and the hooded wraith would be top quality models that would make great additions to the superset haks.

Posted by Lodrezzon at 2004-04-12 18:02:00
All the missing 2da files are back in for v2, plus a few more creatures. Every model in the list works, but since v2 is updated for HOTU 1.62, it may not be compatible with content created using v1. Do a file swap check before throwing your v1 hak away.

Posted by Mercury at 2004-04-12 17:58:00
I'm Havingthe same issue as Anonymous. I only have this hak in there in a blank 2x2 desert tile. And I see no new apearences. I'm mainly in it for the different size dragons. Thanks.

Posted by Lodrezzon at 2004-04-11 19:08:00
Anonymous.... My bet would be this. At the time you posted this message, you may have had another hak in your module with a different appearance 2da file in it. After adding SS_Creatures, the old appearance 2da was still controlling the content you saw, despite having the new hak in the in the module. If this happens again with other haks, you will need to shut the toolset down and restart it before the content will be available to use. The new appearance 2da will load into memory, and the new content should be displayed correctly. I'm assuming you probably already shut the toolset down and have tried this by now, so your problem may already be solved. If it isn't solved, try creating a new module and just add the creatures hak to it. Shut down the toolset and restart it. If you still can't see the monsters then let me know. I'll see if I can troubleshoot the problem for you through e-mails. My only other thought is that you may have another hak with a separate appearance 2da which sits higher in the hak list, that may be causing a conflict. Let me know what you discover, should you come back this way.

Ok, I put creatures hak in my module, rebuild it, restart my toolset and... I can't see any new models except sea hag :/ On other hand I've got in the list plenty of models normaly reserved for objects... sparks, fires and so on. What's wrong? I've HotU, v. 1.62.

Hey man!
Where would you like your temple built?

I've always liked to see some Hak packages made by other players to include in my mods; but all the time, it just never was compatible with both Xpan(or couldnt work with one of em).
You just filled up my garbage can...You see, Now I can throw ALL my other GARBAGE Haks away thx to you!(Ahhh at last something that works for all Xpansions)

This comment goes to all your SS_Projects.
Great work dude!

ps: you got my solid #10 vote for all the ones I DL!

Good work. Thank you very much.

OOPS! Made a mistake... this is the real one =).

****** For everyone making PWs and Online Mods who want their players to be able to download tileset/hak updates from my pages without experiencing name conflicts or omissions*****

From now on, I will be keeping with a standard filename naming system for all of my haks. This will allow you to have your players download any updates from me, and the MOD/PW they have downloaded from you will stay completely compatible. (PLEASE NOTE! I am referring to the ACTUAL filename after the file is unzipped (the one you see in the hak list). NOT, the name of the Zipped file!).

NOTE: This will be the new standard file download naming system for my files (Which absolves me of all guilt, =P):

SS_*content*

That means from now on my current haks will be named thus:

SS_Aztec
SS_Mirador
SS_Cobblestone
SS_ClothesExp
SS_ClothesLim
SS_Heads
SS_Armory
SS_Portraits
SS_Creatures

(New files will be noted in their descriptions when I upload them)

Feel free to change your hak filenames now while you are making your MODs or PWs. I will stay with this naming system till death do us part. I will also post ALL HAK UPDATES, so that you will always have a reference version number to compare to your version. I will still have version numbers associated with the ZIPPED files, just not on the actual files themselves.

I will be changing the names of all my haks this evening to these new names, zipping em, and uploading them as the standard version of the file. (Please allow 24 hours. This is a lot of zipping and uploading, and the vault uploads rather slowly)

PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND! Should you create a MOD/PW using a NEWER version of the hak, and someone playing your MOD/PW has an OLDER version of the hak installed on their computer, and they attempt to play your MODULE or PW, their game COULD crash if the NEWER hak version you've used to create your MOD/PW references new models or features. They can always fix the problem by downloading the newest version of the tileset from my pages, but because my hak files now will NOT contain version numbers, it may be VERY difficult to know which version you are working with, or which one your players are using. Please keep your players informed of your hak updates, so that your version and their version are the same! Remember, I will sill have version information associated in the ZIPPED form, but the ACTUAL filename will not have that information.

I don't have an ERF for this file (meaning you'll have to create one yourself). I run a customized world (non-standard D&D), and so I use completely different stats and names for all of the models assembled here. Sorry for the inconvenience.
