I've taken some midi files from my favorite Ultima games - Ultima VII part 1 and 2, and the two Ultima Underworlds - and converted them into bmu's. I've done my best to replace a lot of the generic synthesizer instruments with more realistic instruments, and so I've taken a few liberties with my interpretations (but not so many as to detract from the nostalgia, if any of you loved these games too). I'm a total amateur at this with limited resources, but I like how these tunes turned out. I hope you do too. Simply put the ultima_music.hak in your haks dir, and all the bmu files in your music dir - then you can add the hakpack to your own modules. If this Ultima music ever inspires anyone to make an Ultima-esque module, let me know - I'd love to see. ;) ~Horace

On behalf on my small group of Ultima fans, I thank you for creating these glorious remixes of those *excellent* MIDI tunes! They made a wonderful, and indeed a needed, contribution to what became our Ultimate Ultima Music Pack.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 2 that made this score of 10.00.

On playing the Ultima 7 games in Windows:
The problem with the U7 games (and it was even irritating in DOS) is that they use their own memory manager program. However, in the greatest contribution to humanity since the invention of the cookie, someone named Gilbert Rouquié took the time to create a hack that will allow the U7 games to run in a Windows environment. It's called U7WIN9X. I've used it to play Serpent Isle all over again on a Windows 98 machine - in the Windows environment, even - without any problems. I can't remember if I've used it in Windows ME or not.
Now, if only someone could find me a patch to run Ultima Underworld 2 on the WinME platform. I've tried making all sorts of custom boot disks, but it seems that my laptop doesn't even come equipped capable of allocating expanded memory, even if I manually reserve blocks for it. Any way to get it to run without EMS?

Horace, this is brilliant. I've always been a fan of the Ultima series, anything prior to U8. They were of the first fantasy games I've ever played and they had their share of shaping my RP life:) The music I always considered fascinating. Good job, I will make good use of this. Thanks a lot
Macros
PS: I'd like to play these games again, especially Ultima 7 and the Serpent Isle. Don't think I could on a powerful PC nowadays though...

How do you convert MIDIs to BMUs?

GhostBear:
I picked these up originally as freely available MIDI files on the internet, which are apparently fair game to use. Heck, you can download them (or hear them playing) on every Ultima fansite on the net. So if I take these MIDI files, personally touch them up, and convert them into BMU's, I don't see how that's any different. And I certainly don't lay any copyright claim to the work (though credit isn't unwelcome).
So as long as you don't try and make a profit off of them... then yeah, it's cool.
In other news, would it be worthwhile for me to touch up any other particular MIDI's?

Are we allowed to use them? I mean with the copywrite law and stuff? I don't want to add them to my mod now only to have to remove it later.
