This hak pak contains a new creature: a Wemic. This is a full PC-type model. It can be used in-game for NPCs and is fully dynamic (you can drop armor and weapons into a Wemic's inventory and it will don the items). It can also be used as a PC using CODI's Character Creator. Full instructions are included. This file also contains a demo module to introduce the Wemic.

well, i'd like to see the lower body as .plt textured and using the haircolor for the fur too.
also i'm not sure how to actually do that, but i want to make a dynamic centaur for player race and i hope i can use and modify this one for it.

One thing I would REALLY love to know is how you managed to have different colouration on the lower body in each phenotype? I have been trying to make the lion part into a pelvis part and converting the skinmesh into an editable mesh and changing the the c_wemic.tga & c_wemic.dds images into .plt images but its just no use. Although I have managed to make it change when I chaged the creatures colours in the toolset but they keep reverting back to to origional colouration somehow when I leave that window. If I could just manage to create 2 specific colour schemes to choose from I'd be happy.

Could you do the same thing for a PC dryder?

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 15 that made this score of 8.81.

Just what I need for a Hill of Lost Souls module. Cool.

DLA (Dragonlance Adventures) is making a Centaur. So is another modeller on the CC forum. I think I will leave it up to them.
SoU version is in the works.

Also I was just thinking how great a job this is and how great it would look if you made a centaur. All the other ones aren't that great and since your Wemic was great you would probably be able to make a great Centaur too.

Will the next version work with SoU cause I have SpU and I would like to be able to use this with it.

I'm working on some fixes and updates for this pak. It appears that I will be able to add a second lower body as the 'Large' phenotype (I will not make it 'Large', just a different lower body). If this works, you will be able to choose one or the other at character creation. A quick poll: would people like to see a slightly different version of the current body (say, lighter coloured fur on the lion body with different markings) or a completely different lower body based on Bioware's original lion (the segmented model for the lion)?
The original body would probably fix the occasional problems people have with shadows, black texture, and transparent armor. It would do this at the cost, of course, of a more primitive looking model.

I really really love this !!
Its almost professional work... you should receive money for that...i only noticed tow small things that aren´t perfect now.. (i wrot eligio as an email )
first is the missing shadow of the lionbodypart ..
next is the strange sitting animation.. maybe there is a way to replace it with the wonderful rest animation... well that all for now.. =)

Alen, Slashstar, thanks for the feedback. I'll try to look at these for the next release of the Wemic. I've not heard of any issues with the Wemic and Gnoll but I'll see if the PCpack changes I did broke something. I am aware of the clipping issue on the Wemic's backend. It is tied to how NWN does collision detection for creatures (basically a cirle around the Wemic's main pivot point which is his abdomen).

For my previous post. CODI-Character Generator 2.01=1.01. It was a typo.
Posted by Slashstar ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-16 13:20:00
Great stuff.....
Now for my issue. When I implement the use of the Wemic with the CODI-Character Generator 2.01, I am able to create all races except for the Gnoll, it will not show the model. I do not see any reference to as being a bug anywhere so I am assuming either I am doing something wrong or this has not been reported as a Bug. This is the only problem I have seen with using this with the CODI-Charater Generator. Otherwise the Wemic as PC or NPC is a great add on.

Hey mister Eligio ! Great work you've done with these creatures ! But ... I found somethings strange ... When I wanna walk behind a wemic npc, I end walking IN his back. The wemics wearing full plate armor got problems with some parts of thier armor going through their body when they fight.
Please don't misunderstand me : I do not say your work is not great 'cause it is.
I say "if you wanna make your work more greater, you should consider resolving these problems". I'looking forward for updates. Great work, again !

Wow, this is great. The only complaint I have is that I get no color on the bottom half, I don't know if that's my fault, but it looks like others have had the same problem. Any way to fix this?
Also, message boards are for comments/ complaints, NOT arguements.

GREAT stuff. (Man, this must have been a ton of work!)

I absolutely love this. You guys are awesome!
IMHO ya'll should be creating your own games
with this type of skill. This and the manticore
are some of the best creatures I've seen posted
on the vault. Keep up with the good work all of you!
Posted by HappyZergling ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-10 16:06:00
Hm, this is odd. Anyone having the same problem as I?
Whenever the Wemics move, the textures on the lower body seem to blank out into the color of fog in the area you are located. I'm not sure if I'm having conflicting models, because I attempted to place a Kobold with a Wemic in a scene.
Great job, tho. I'd like to see the crab.

MysterX, I may incorporate a human headed model or two in the NPC hak pak - would not be much extra work.
Posted by Eligio_Sacateca ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-08 16:47:00
Redcap, the Wemic's are big although I don't think they are twice the size of a human in-game. I'll take a closer look at that next revision.
I tried making the lower body an 'armour part' so that it would have a PLT but it does not work. It is hard to explain but the body is a skinmesh and there are some specific limitations of the game engine with skinmeshes. If you tie the Wemic body to the character that way it becomes completely distorted in game.
Regarding children, I have been thinking about doing an NPC-only pak (without replaceable body parts, etc.) and might include children in it. No definite plans there yet though.

Jereniva
Glad I could contribute, even if it's just a few comments about wemic theology... this package is a great piece of work and I am happy to see people using it.
This could also be used as a model for a beast called a Lamia, although Lamias have more humanlike heads. Lamias are evil and cruel creatures that take great pleasure in spreading evil. They like to target those who serve the cause of good for horrible deaths. They usually appear with the body of a lion, but some lamias have the lower body of a goat or deer.

I don't use Faerun in either my tabletop or NWN module.
Our gameworld is original :p
Once Planescape came out, we never went back to the Forgotten Realms . . .
However my gameworld features Malar *very strongly* and your idea, MysterX of having the wemic as a paladin tasked with defeating minions of Malar is brilliant, thank you!
Malar is not exactly evil in my gameworld, though evil people worship him/it and do evil things in his/its name.

This is probably the most beautiful modeling job I have seen in a long while in the vault. VERY well done.
But I dont get the ... "..excuse to put lion-people.." comment from below. Guessing you guys must not play D&D tabletop ...Wemic are a standard monsterous race ..and indeed dominate one of the southern dales in Forgotten Realms... these should of been in all along. Again ...VERY good job. More please. :)

Totally excellent work Eligio sacateca & ghostfactory,
looking forward to using them and even playing them.
one or two things i want to ask thou, they seem to be very big, almost the size of a minotaur and twice the size of a human. any chance to re-scale them to a smaller size?
also is it possiable to make the wemic.tga into a plt file
so we can change the colours. this will more than likely
stop the missing texture,( althou you most proberlly are already tring this.)
any chance of some children wemic's?
10/10 from me, keep up the good work.

Here's an excuse for putting lion people in your Forgotten Realms game world:
The wemic paladin. Formed after the Time of Troubles, there is a group called the Legion of Lions, a noble order of werelions and wemics, committed to protecting good-aligned monsters and magical beasts. They are tasked with defeating minions of Malar the Beastlord, and often multiclass as clerics of Nobanion, King of Beasts, patron of lions, wemics, and good-aligned beasts.
Nobanion Firemane, the Lion King, is also served by wemic druids and shamans who look over the health of the pride. His symbol is a lion's head upon a green shield, his alignment is LG, and his suggested domains are Animal, Good, Strength, and Protection. He wants his followers to do what is right, orderly, and good, but does not force them on this path.
Wemics believe that only the strong survive, but by a strict heirarchy where the strong protect the weak, and the strongest make decisions for the group as a whole. They are content to live and let live, unless otherwise provoked, but they are fiercely loyal to the pride, and will always come to the aid of even the lowest member of the pecking order.
