I have always felt that the forest tileset was incomplete without having a water terrain. So, instead of complaining I decided to make my own. This hak contains everything for a non-replacing new terrain type, imaginatively called 'Water'. I have tried to give water the same functionality as the pit terrain, without just copying all the pit terrains and adding in a water plane. The Water terrain supports all crossers as well as pretty much evey possible combination of water and cliffs. Also included are minimap icons for every tile. Enjoy, this was a lot of work!
Special thanks to everyone who helped me test this. You know who you are ;).
**NOTE** the above screenshots were taken using DLA's canopied forest. It is IN NO WAY included within my hak. If you want their pretty trees, you'll have to get it yourself or wait for their vault version. Also, to make sure everyone knows, shadows are not cast below the Z plane due to engine limitations, so anything below the ground plane will not cast dynamic shadows.

I used to use the pit and water placeable, ths is MUCH nicer. Now all that we need is walkmeshes on them =) _________________________ The VIVE NWN Project.

This is one of the most needed expansions to the default tilesets ever done. Also, extremely well done and bug-free. Great work! This needs HoF status... come on folks, get some votes up here!

Good work. One request: Could you make a version of the Bridge Door feature for water?

"This is one of the greatest additions for a tileset that has been released on the vault. We, the CTP Team, think so much of this set that we have included it in our releases. We have taken this, repaired the issues that we could, then added this to tilesets where we thought it would help to expand the usage of that tileset."

To get the stone bridge, place to water tiles diagonally of each other. Like so:

Aw. This is great really.. Thanks for the good work.
But I hope you will look back to nwn sometimes and make other cool stuff. =)
But now I'd like to ask a Question to ALL people reading here.
The SS Cobblestone Tile is using this water terain too and it's great to make true rivers i think. And there's a great road too i've seen as great as this tile.. But one thing iam missing and I hope someone could make it..
A Bridge of this Great Road for this water terrain. That would be fantastic Iam sure..
Thanks to all modellers for your work..
and all people reading have a nice day =)Ja khaless zhah waela

I'm sorry in advance for the stupid question (I only started messing around with the toolset recently, and my module is far from release), but how do I get the crossing in the lower left screenshot? The only one I noticed in the toolset that works is the standard bridge. I'm using SoU and HotU, with the 1.62 patch.

I just wanted to say that this is just beautiful. It adds a nice sense of depth to any forest, which I too always thought felt too flat.
Oh, and I'm running HotU with SoU and the latest "stable" patch -- and I use the term stable loosely -- which is 1.61. So far I've had no troubles in my tests with it.

Woo, been a long, long, loooooong time. Anywho... thanks for all the great comments and such. I really worked hard on this and I'm glad people have liked it and found it useful.
To the unknown poster below, there's no reason this shouldn't work with HotU, as it doesn't affect any of the files that were touched in the expansion... at least, I don't think it does. Someone, correct me if I am wrong.
In case anyone wonders, I've been away from the NWN scene for a long time now and just relatively recently coming back. I can't promise anything new on this or any other tilesets in the immedate future, but I am working on a bunch of other things.
Well, I guess that's it. Thanks again for the positive comments, everyone :).

I like this hak VERY much......... is it possible to get a HotU version? That would be awesome to see that, and would help me wiht my module making alot.
I thought this was beautiful, and I placed it in my module without a second thought. Thank you for contributing!

On a second look, after starting integrating this tileset with my own additions to the forest, i have seen that your walk mesh, at least for some of the tiles is an exact copy of the visual mesh. the whole idea of walk mesh is to optimize it for performance. you dont need 30 polygons for a simple floor, and certainly not for unwalkable areas.

Great work.
You might want to rename the tiles to avoid conflicts with future updates from Bioware.
Something like TYF01_xx_xx might fit :)

I love the tileset. One question. How did you get the stone bridge in the lower left picture? I can only make a wooden bridge.
Anyhoo, thank you for the great tileset. Its simply wonderful.

The tree canopies look like pinwheels on flimsy sticks. I've used the hi-poly tree canopies by Sylvandroc in an area 24 by 24 with over 80 of the canopies and I didn't have any lag at all running through the forest. It looked great. Plus I could make it bare, pine, maple, and fir. With a little bit more work, there could be enough placeables for each season.
It's a bit of a pain to place all those placeables, but it makes for a much better looking and varied appearance to the area. I can't stand the pathetic little trees Bioware has for placeables. I have to use Martin's to get the right look in rural areas and the forest canopies for forest areas.

proof yet again, that you can't please everyone...
Posted by DisgruntledKender ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-11-10 09:46:00
*laughs* Those are DLA's forest canopies? I guess it meets Bioware standards, but nothing to call home about. I will always prefer Sylvandroc's placeable canopies. Much more flexible for making the most out of the forest tileset.
The water tiles are beautiful though. A very good and cheap addition, in terms of file size. Little bits here and there are what make the standard tilesets really come alive.
