The only thing I can get to dl from this page is the base hak. The other url given leads to a "dns error" page and no 2da files. Can't play this lovely sounding mod--with its many, many haks already taking up a lot of space on my machine--without the 2das! (Same problem yesterday) Please advise.

I tested all the placables none of them will crash the game (thumbs up)

Only thing is that some of them are not there. They wont appear in the mod you cant even get them out of the list as it where (only a few mind theres still loads avaliable). Second small thing is some items dont have textures, looks like they got dipped in alot of white gloss lol

I downloaded, the base, and the placables one and two. But after I put them into my module none of the itmes even show up in the custom tab. The menu is there but no items inside it :\

I think its the base item thing, after I downloaded it all I get in the zip file is a hak and no erfs, and there arnt any erfs in either of the placable paks so I figure they should be in the base.

Hopefully there are no placeables that crash the game. If you find any, let us know.

Posted by DarkLegion ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2004-02-23 02:03:00
Is there a list anywhere of which placeables crash the game? Hunting through them one by one, with the rather large number of them, can prove tedious.

Thanks.

Knightfell,

Ah, good to know -- no I didn't do that -- musta missed it if it was mentioned somewhere, or if it's of course some kind of obvious custom-content 101 basics stuff any beginning builder would know from the copious tutorials out there heheh.... Should have thought it might take a bit more -- I'd played around with various haks before but I guess come to think of it this is the first time I've tried to use a placeables hak in actual building attempts of my own (other than as downloading them as a player).... one more notch on my target:self newbiness-annihilating spear of getting-a-clue +1....

Thanks for the help, will have to get to that asap tomorrow!

SeymourGull,
I know this sounds trivial, but did you import the erf's into the module via file>>import?
Also vol 1 and 2 are not dependant on each other. you can use just one or both.

That was me in the blank-nameless loooong newbie-question post just below -- forgot to fill in who I was.

But just adding on here, in case it helps figure out where I'm going wrong or whatever: I do have both of the erf's in the NWN erf directory, one for each of the two Volumes (there's no erf for the Base right?)

And I've got all 3 of the Mdrn_Pl hak files in the hak directory (of course, since I otherwise wouldn't be able to add them to the modules I'm creating in the toolset, which process worked fine without conflicts) and I do have them in the following order on the haklist if it matters: Base, Volume 1, Volume 2. I get from your description above that volume 1 and 2 are independent of eachother, but I assume also that they don't in any way conflict with eachother -- sounds like from other feedback and so on that they don't.

Anyway, just clarifying that though newbie, I at least have the above worked out (unless of course any of that is wrong, in which case glad I mentioned it). Thanks again.

Looks like great stuff from the pictures and descriptions and feedback -- only problem is I must be doing something wrong, can't seem to get it to show up in my Placeables in the toolset -- either it's not there or I'm looking in all the wrong places. (Also tried on a lark via the DM Client and the Creator list, but no dice there either, which of course probably shouldn't show there if it wasn't in the tileset, but thought worth a try.)

First time I tried I added all 3 Placeables haks to a new "Modern Test" module with the city exterior hak and the virtual net tileset hak, all at once. I was able to use the tilesets but couldn't find the placeables.

Then seeing that someone had a problem with clothes and items -- neither of which I've tried yet from what you've offered -- I figured I'd nevertheless try a similar approach, and created another totally new module, with *only* the 3 placeables haks added in under Module Properties, Custom Content....

So I'm looking through trying to find a car or plane or statue of liberty top, to stick in an open field of a Rural tileset area, just to at least be sure they're there... and I think I must be blind or something.... (not seeing anything that at least name-wise doesn't look like the standard medieval Bioware fare)

If everything I've described above means I've added them correctly, and they should be showing up, could you just give me a tip or two on where to look? I'm still *relatively* brand new to the toolset (in terms of producing anything finished anyway) so could easily be missing them, especially if they're interspersed in with all the standard items, though I think I looked as thoroughly as I could manage....

I looked mostly under the "Standard" tab of Placeables, then realized maybe they're under "Custom" (tho wouldn't that be more specific tailored instances of the objects that I create while building? still newbie as mentioned). And though most of the "Custom" subcategories seem to be empty as usual (to start with), it seems there's now a new "top-level-of-the-tree" category called "D20 Modern" but with no "plus" next to it so I can't delve deeper....

Ultimately this probably will turn out to be a "teach the newbie" kind of request rather than useful feedback for refining the great work you all are doing -- so if it's the kind of thing which I should know from various custom content tutorials etcetera that are out there, sorry for bugging you on it here. I've only dabbled on-and-off with building and the toolset, so far, and the kind of modules that most drive me to design (and eventually hopefully create) are ones that have some combo of modern and fantasy-medieval going on -- so needless to say I'm really glad to see this kind of content come along, and hopefully it will get me moving on the learning curve for all the rest of the possibilities....

Kudos to you on all this, again -- the tilesets so far are fantastic -- well, okay, they're not "fantastic" technically, they're realistic, since not fantasy, although the virtual net one is of course "fantasy" by it's nature in another cyber-punk-sci-fi-speculative sense... um, okay, you know what I mean....

Thanks for any help.

JG:

Knightfell simply means that this beta was open, i.e. everyone could download and test out the haks, and then give their feedback. The next beta will be closed, only a specific number of people will have access to the beta 2 haks for testing purposes. This is done for a number of reasons: open betas are good for getting a large number of eyes to look at the hak in a general sense, with a closed beta used to have a few people take a more strict look at some of the problems.

These are nice haks. Good Job! Obviously a lot of hard work. But why on earth are you planning on releasing a "closed" hak that people would have to "apply" for the honer of being able to look at? That's lame!

Posted by Knightfell at 2004-01-24 12:43:00
Thanks alot archaic. We're planning to have the next beta a closed one and we're inviting a limited number of people to apply. Would love to have you and your keen eye to apply for it when we announce it officiallyKnightfell

Knightfell,

No, I wasn't using any other placeable.2da or .itp files. The only haks I had loaded were this week's d20 haks. So, just for the heck of it, I created a new module, and added the placeable haks first. Ta-da! They worked. Then, one by one, I added the tilesets, rules, sounds, clothes, and items. Each worked in turn until I got to the clothes and items, which seem to have problems with one another (when I went to edit them as items, none of the usual parts -i.e. torso- would load, and I could not place the new weapons on the ground, even after loading the .erfs.

Oh well, after seeing what amazing things you guys have done, I'm sure you'll get the guns ironed out.

By the way, these placeables are AMAZING! If anyone is considering downloading these, give them a try! They add so much to the modern city tilesets, and the screenshot on this page really does neither the quality nor the quanity of these placeables justice.

Archaic,
Are you using any other hak that uses placeables.2da or placeablepal.itp? if so that may cause issues. The placeable base only holds these two files so we know that if the error is our fault,it will lie somewhere with this hak. the two volumes only hold mdls and textures.Knightfell

The interior in the movie is very buggy, you can see an example of this by watching the security guys die. The creators of the no more existant cyberpunk project created it and gave us permissions to use it. At this point, we are debating wether to fix this one or make our own.Knightfell

I acknowledge that I may be doing something incorrectly here, but after adding the placeable haks (in order, with the base hak at the top of custom content list) and hitting 'done', the module attempts to incorporate the haks. When the progress bar gets about halfway across, I get an error that states something to the effect of "index out of bounds".
This is with all of the other d20 haks (clothing, items, etc.) successfully implemented, so the problem only occurs when I try to add placeables. Is there a setting in the .2da I need to change?

Thanks for all of your hard work. I am really looking forward to playing with these models.

Well, I guess we have to wait for the final release. I'd rather wait, as it can only get better from here!

I could've sworn that I saw an interior tileset in the movie you guys made. Are you not releasing now?
