Title  DLA Canopied Forest
Author  DLA Team
Submitted / Updated  12-30-2003 / 12-31-2003
Category  Tilesets
Expansions  NWN-1.61
Description
DLA Present the 'DLA Canopied Forest' by the DLA Team. The Canopied Forest Haks are 2 Tileset add-ons for the Bioware Default Forest and any derivative combo tilesets that do not rename those tiles. Both haks provide varied forest areas with different trees - all with lush leaf canopies for use with an unlocked camera. Both haks provide a dense wooded edge tile that enhances the feel of a real forest over the default 'corn fields' of the Bioware default forest edgetile.

The dla_canforest.hak in the archive is a REPLACING hak. By adding this hak to any module that contains areas built with the BioWare forest tileset, the hak will automatically retrofit the forest areas in the module to appear as a canopied forest, leaving the rest of the area untouched. It is a plug 'n play tileset add-on. No further editing is required. It is backwards compatible with all versions of NWN and about 3,000 modules on NWVault.

The second hak, dla_canforest2.hak is a NON replacing hak that does not rename or override default BioWare content. Builders may build with this tileset add-on without overwriting previous BioWare tree models if they wish to for some reason. End user players will not want to use this hak unless instructed to by a module's specific hak pak requirements. A tiny third hak, dla_cf_edgefix.hak is included for builders. It addresses some quirks which will arise in building along some forest edges. Please see the readme inside the archive for details. This hak should not be used by players unless they are instructed to do so by a module's hak pak requirements. Author: DLA Team

I really don't understand how many tens this got. When I saw this as a builder, I though "great, this adds immersion into forest tileset". But in game? If you play with camera view from top, you won't see anything, its unplayable. There is missing the most essential feature for me and thats hiding the second level tiles.

Also, the source of the Hak lists the creator as DOA, but if it is known to be someone else let me know and ill credit them properly.

For the way it looks, I would give it a 10, but the missing fading geometry makes it impossible to edit in the toolset. Also there seem to be some bugs with the T-junction of the road (one tile seems to be rotated by 180°) and with the walls (try to make a zigzag wall).

Fantastic. Makes forests look so much better.

"This is one of the greatest additions for a tileset that has been released on the vault. We, the CTP Team, think so much of this set that we have included it in our releases. We have taken this, repaired the issues that we could, then added this to tilesets where we thought it would help to expand the usage of that tileset."

Case insensitivity is a flaw..... but i guess things should be that way in Windows* as it has been developed from start with the "informatically uneducated end user" as target unlike *nixes....
Is it really so much difficult to understand that "A" is not "a" and act according to that??
I dont think so.......
btw Mr_Dave, "those self proclaimed brainiacs who created Linux couldn't program it to read FileNames correctly" acted exactely like the "worldwide proclamed brainiacs of Berkley" that created Unix... strange uh m8 , loos like world is full of stupids.....
Grow up kid...

It sucks that all those self-proclaimed brainiacs who use Windows think that case-insensitive is somehow 'correct', let alone better...

Posted by Mr_Dave at 2004-11-20 23:06:00
Yeah, that sucks that all those self proclaimed brainiacs who created Linux couldn't program it to read FileNames correctly...
I, for one, now make sure to name my hak updates with only lower case letters. I know how much it sucks having to rename everything you download."Me Go Beer!" - Mr. Dave

You should rename the .hak to use only small letters, as it causes problems with (at least) linux servers. The server tries to find the file "dla_canforest.hak" and because letter capitalization does matter in linux it can't find it (the file being named "DLA_CanForest.hak")

Other than that, you've done a great job :D

Is it possible to make this usable with YummiChan's Forest Water?

And Great Work!

One of the most usefull HAK's.
I would like to have a little bit more variety for the canopies - differnt kind of trees and spring, summer, autumn and winter variations. Then I would give this HAK a 9.

lodrezzon: check the hak for duplicate models, with different case letters.
rename all the files to lowercase to resolve this issue.

I used the non-override version and I got the canopies in Bioware standard forest tileset, as I wrote below. Sounds similar to what Lodrezzon describes. I am not an expert at all... but I do think there's something fishy.

Posted by Lodrezzon at 2004-04-07 05:59:00
It is only occurring to one user that I know of, so I'm not sure if there may be other software/hak issues involved. I was just asking to see if possibly sometime, someone had noticed a similar situation. Should I find an answer to this odd little dilemma, I will pass the info to you. Thanks again. =)

First time I have heard of such a problem. We do have two versions of these, and that is a replacing version and a nonreplacing version. If you are wanting to not replace bioware trees, use the non replacing version. If you renamed the replacing version and did not change all of the internal references, then indeed that could be the problem.

No more flagpole woods. This is possibly the best add-on hak for a BW tileset ever done.
