Ever wanted to design a crypt where the weapons that were laid to rest with their owners actually looked old? Ever wanted to construct an ancient battlefield and see aged and weathered items? NOW YOU CAN! I want to give a BIG THANKS to Devan Crowe and his Battlefield Placeables hakpack (http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/hakpacks/data/1074838341690.shtml). It was the inspiration and starting point for this hakpack. I used many of the models from his hak along with many weapon models from the CEP. I assembled the weapon model pieces into a single model using the Context text editor and then applied new textures manipulated with the GIMP to give the items an aged and weathered look. NOTE: The textures in the hak are primarily DDS textures. If someone needs a TGA only texture hakpack, I can supply that as well.
The placeables.2da supplied in the hak is HOTU 1.65 + CEP 1.51 2da file. The placeable items are numbers 4000 thru 4084. If you use a different placeable.2da base, then just copy these lines and the wildcard padding line above entry 4000 into the end of your placeables.2da. I have also supplied an erf in the zip file to allow easy import into your module. The erf will place entries into the Custom->Placeables->Battlefield category. Hope you like the placeables. Happy building! P.S. Please note that HOTU and CEP *ARE NOT* required for this hakpack to function. The hak contains placeables and will work with any combination of NWN, SOU, HOTU, and CEP.
Updated to version 1.1 on 22-Feb-05 - see the ReadMe file for more details.
*** PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE PLACEABLES ARE NOW PART OF THE CEP 2.0 CONTENT ***
Unfortunately, no I am not skilled at this point to create creatures from scratch. I have played with gmax some and the nwmax import/export scripts from the DLA folks. I mainly use a text editor to manipulate existing models. The geometry manipulations are not that difficult and I understand from the text file how the model nodes are welded together and can thus 'move' them around. I use the GIMP for texture manipulation. Maybe one day I'll get good enough to create a model from scratch, but by then NWN2 will be out! :)--------------------------------------------------------------
As a single guy, I hated going to weddings. All the elderly
women would love to tease me by saying "You're next" when
talking with them at the reception. I found out how to shut
them up quickly .... I started doing the same thing to them
whenever we were at a funeral.
You're welcome! Glad it is of use. Hope to have some more stuff in version 1.2 sometime soon. Weird that it broke CEP since I tested with that. I'll give it a spin up on a new module with CEP only and see if I can find any problems.
Frayne:
Thanks for the compliments. I will try to look at doing a boarded door placeable (minus the door!) and release it. I can't promise it immediately, but will give it a look.--------------------------------------------------------------

Congrats on all the stuff you've done lately, Tiberius, it's all been great.
Posting the following request here as this is your placeables hak, but it really relates to your doors:
If you think it's a good idea, I was wondering if you could do a placeable that acts as a screen you can position in front of a doorway that looks like several criss-crossing lengths of crooked wood hammered up to seal the door. Consequently, to get at the door behind one would first have to hack through the placeable. I've previously simulated this with other placeables but it would be great to have one that was designed for the job... it's useful for situations where you want the PCs to have to break in but wish to leave the door intact.

Tiberius,
I was able to test your update and it's great!!!
Maybe I had other haks in the module I've tested it with, because somehow all my CEP placeables were gone!?!
Thought, it doesn't matter really, I can rework the 2da! :)
Thanks, the hak will be very useful to me! ;)

Looking very nice Tiberius and the portraits are appreciated... not every maker bothers with them.
If you're doing a bow rack maybe you could use the models that most people are using (Shadowhawk's stuff in the CEP). Unless you can do better, of course. ;) As an ex-archer of 15 years the Bioware bows and similar fantasy efforts make me want to laugh... or cry.

Tiberius,
I just thought of a something, I've made a few random weapons, helmet, shields and armor scripts for containers, which I always use in my mods (which should be release on the vault soon!) and one thing that is needed would be an helmet rack and an armor rack. We have them in CEP, but they are considered creatures, which bothers me a little.
So a rack for armors, helmets and maybe old shields if you want to, would be neat. (Just one of each would be fine, thought!)
Yeah, I'll get back in touch with you when I get time to test your update!;) I was impressed with the first release, I'm sure the update will do the same.
Thanks!

Yes, much 'sharper', you clearly know your stuff!
I was referring to the possibility of you doing some decent waraxes as usable weapons, as you had started to discuss turning your placeables into weapons in this thread. Waraxes are among the last few weapons yet to receive the hi res treatment in NWNs. The other biggie is crossbows... Shadowhawk added some realistic bows but I've yet to see a good looking arbalest. Don't mind me I'm rambling... best finish up your cool placeables first. ;)
Nevermind..........

When referring to the hi-res waraxes, are you talking about the placeables hak or the upcoming weapons hak? :?
In regards to the textures, I always start with a hi-res TGA and then convert that to a DDS texture for distribution (makes for a smaller hak). The bump mapping is a different process that gives the image depth. Compare these two examples:
Normal Steel
Bump Steel
Normal Wood
Bump Wood --------------------------------------------------------------

I guess both would make sense if it's little extra effort, but I'd always use the higher spec stuff.
One cool thing you could do while you're at it is plug a gap in the weapon market... no one has done good-looking hi-res waraxes yet, to my knowledge. Something along the lines of Shadowhawk's axes but as slightly larger waraxe models would be perfect.
I hope to have it out by this weekend. The only possible hitch would be how long it takes the vault to update. I am also experimenting with bump mapped textures and have converted the textures I used in the original to bump mapped textures. They look really good. I am debating on whether to replace the original textures or duplicate all the weapons to have a set using normal textures and a set using bump mapped textures. Suggestions?--------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, for version 1.1, I will make the flat placeables truly flat with no z-axis offset.
The doors I am working on will be compatible with the 69Doors.hak (I have that one already) and do not duplicate any of that effort. The real pain with many of these haks is not the model or the texture, but he multitude of portraits/icons that have to be generated for each (normal, medium, small and tiny). Ugh.--------------------------------------------------------------

I would second Zeorn's comments.
Regarding the Z axis... Aurora will automatically stack placeables created on top of one another, hence it's not necessary to have a Z axis offset for anything that is intended to lie flat on something else. As it is at the moment if you create one of the placeables on top of a table it will stack and be left floating in the air, requiring that one manually adjusts the height again. It's apples and oranges... you can do it either way but having these placeables flush with the ground (or whatever object they are placed on) is more convenient because your chosen height may not correspond to where a builder wishes to place the object. ;)
Please do make these as identical weapons... I've always wanted rusty beating sticks for the deaduns.
The weapons would be a separate hakpack. My plan is to release that hak and to continue development on this one separately. I plan to add the portraits for the exisiting items plus additional weapons, and now with your suggestion, some additional varied weapon racks. I will investigate some broken weapons as well. Please note that what is displayed in the large screenshot for this hak is not all that is included...........
Right now, I am trying to get a "MoreDoors" hak out which has 8 stone and 8 wooden doors. I should be posting that in the next couple of days. The wooden doors have some "aging and weathered" effects so they match up well with this hak.
Thanks again for all the positive feedback.--------------------------------------------------------------

Tiberius,
If you intend to release weapons, I would suggest that you make them as a separate hak, as I, like probably some others, may want to use placeables only, since I've got a lot of weapons at hand already.
Thought, if you would like some suggestions, maybe make a rack with a bit more varied and rare weapons besides swords, spears and axes.
A ranged weapon rack would be great too!
How about broken placeable weapons?
Thanks for sharing your work. :)

"Also, one final question - I was thinking of releasing this as a true useable weapon hak to allow aged/weathered weapon use by both PCs and monsters (I think these would look good wielded by skeletons and zombies). Would you have a use for that?"
Thanks for all the positive comments, they are really appreciated.
Frayne - The z-axis offset on several of the flat placeable weapons was for placement on tables, chests, etc. in a dungeon environment. I just kind of chose at random which ones were raised or lowered (my laziness I guess ;)
I plan on adding more to this hak soon and releasing version 1.1 with more weapons. Any suggestions are welcome - would rather put something in that people want rather than what I concoct.
