This unofficial patch unlocks the camera giving you complete control over the view. You can drop the camera down to the ground or play in first person mode. It is completely customizable to suit your tastes. Even if you think the default cameras are okay, you should try this out. Many people thought they were okay and when they ran this program they realized what they were missing! Run install.exe to install the hack. I've also included source code if someone wants to make it work with the most recent NWN versions.
This hack modifies your NWMAIN.EXE. If you try to update to a new Bioware patch you will get an error unless you rerun this hack and use the Bioware button to restore your NWMAIN.EXE to its original condition.
Version J supports SOU 1.30 and NWN 1.29. I don't have SOU so I can't help much with any problems you have with it. When NWN 1.30 comes out, someone let me know if it works as well. This version includes within it previous versions to provide support for older NWN versions.
Address 0x000a7797 change value C8 41 to 34 43
Address 0x000a77ab change value B2 42 to 34 43
Address 0x000a7c49 change value C8 41 to 34 43
Address 0x000a7c5d change value B2 42 to 34 43
Now save your file and try it out. Warning: u may zoom out way to far now and your screen may be fog covered simply hit the home key.
BTW if u cant do this and still want to see the improved view let me know in game and ill send u my exe.
Ok this really isnt that complicated and it does work with 1.68
Ok its been a while since I had to do this when 1.69 comes out ill be sure to write up step by step instructions.
These instructions were posted earlier in this thread:
Fire up your hex editor and open the file nwnmain.exe
Click on "FIND" and search for the value "00 00 B2 42" or "0000B242" depending on your hex editor you may have to format the search differently. I would use a hex editor that makes finding this value as fast as possible. What you will find is that each time you click "find next" the search will stop on a value. There are roughly 10 occurences of "00 00 B2 42".
The trick is to find the right one that you want to change. I found in the NWN version of 1.62 the 4th occurrence of "00 00 B2 42" was the correct location to change the value to "00 00 34 43".
Right next to it you will find the value "00 00 C8 41" this must also be changed to 3443.
Like the instructions say, there are roughly 10 occurences of this, you simply need to hunt and poke one at a time till u get the right one., ie backup your orig exe.
Opps, just add the 3443 sorry in the postion u see above. _________________________
This took me a while I hope it helps someone. On a side note I would really use some expert assistance
with moneo. Thank You. _________________________

I DID IT! Here's the scoop (I'll post more info later): I replaced all instances of the float number 6.0 with float number -1.0. THEN, I replaced all instances of 62.0 with float number 89.0
THE KEY was to use the console command unlockcamera 0 (NOT 1, ZERO) once playing. This made the engine use the LOCKED camera limits (which I'd changed).
This a) set the minimum zoom to -1 (in front of the character) for Driving Mode, and b) set the maximum pitch angle to 89 (straight ahead) for Driving Mode.
Hope that helps people! I'll get the hex addresses nailed down and post them.
I'm having the same problems as Freestonew... the unknown nwn.main... _________________________ The VIVE NWN Project.

freestonew can you post what I need to change to have a fps view with 1.65 patch? Your link doesn't work :(
oh newbie me!
I tried your latest version and i have
sou-hotu 1.64 and when i open the program by clicking on the desktop, i only get a
" it says my NWmain.exe is an "unknown version" and aborts after trying to load values. " , for an error, just like the guy below.
so is this *really* for older versions of neverwinter?!
but i read how people with HOTU cannot get first person!
that means it works.
so what am i doing wrong?!
thanks....freestone _________________________ live an incredible life

Brandon's camera hack was very useful in its day, but it's now completely obsolete. It won't work with any version of NWN later than v1.30, and the camera in NWN has been unlocked by default since HotU was released anyway (although admittedly without the first person mode that Brandon's hack used to allow). All in all, it's time to put this one to bed...
someone make an easy way for someone on hotu 1.64 to use fps view
(ill be your friend ^_^)

It dosen't work with me . maybe it's because i have 1,60 version but i dont know .I really need this mod , it's just so cool, so if anybody has it working with anything beyond 1,30 version .

And what about FPS view? There's a way to do the same?
I was getting ready to download and install this (because so many folks have raved about it : ), but I realize now that the descriptions of the hak (at the top of the page) were written way back in the days of the Netheril empire.
Is it possible to change the descriptions at the top, so that it's clear at the beginning that it doesn't work with Hordes of the Underdark?
I miss the days before bioware started tinkering with the setup, I miss being able to zoom right in close, and look up... with more fantastic tilesets on the way it's criminal that we can't look at the beautiful parts of them.

This works great. I didn't have any trouble but I still made a copy of my NWNmain and renamed it "NWNmain_old" - - - Just in case!

I got HOU and found that to hack the camera angle you find the 5th occurence of 0000B242 is the value is to change to 00003443. This will give you 180 camera angle in driving mode.
The 5th occurence of 0000C841 is the value to change to unlock max zoom. I put 00003443 in there too but since view distance is about 80ish you can zoom out way further than you can see.
Fog can be set in all modules by a scripting tool called leto found at sourceforge. Actually moneo is the tool but I have not figured it out quite yet but the batch should look something like this...
"#:LetoScript"
"for:res *.are"
"gff:FogClipDist add type=Float" 70 "/gff"
"/for"
Put left or right arrow where the quotes are since it is script arrows don't show up here correctly.
If you have time to figure it out. I will probably figure out how to add skyboxes and set fog for all modules and just run one big batch. For now I am going to hold off since I could probably load up a module and adjust just one and determine if 70 is too far of a clip. Or maybe my machine could handle 90.
