Elemental Beings, the majority of them just want to be left alone right?, they dont care about things like Good or Evil, Chaos or Law. For Elementals all that matters is that nothing changes, and no one around them attempts to change their "perfect" in their eyes, plane of existance. To exisit as they are is all they desire.
However the Elemental Grue arent your ordinary elementals, their Evil pure and simple and damn proud of it. None of this uncareing neutrality of their often stronger cousins no sir. Like the god like Archomental Princes, Grues have an ethical agender and its not a good one, unlike the Archomentals though they havent got the psyhical clout to get to far, but that doesnt stop them trying. They bully, harrass and torture anything thats weaker than them (elemental or otherwise) into submission, and then toy with their victim untill it no longer holds there interest, after which death typicaly insues.
On the Prime Elemental grues are rare, and for good reason, no wizard would attempt to bring such a being into the prime without good reason. Because you see, Grues are special... All grues exude a nullifying field of Elemental power around them typicaly around 50 feet in diameter, this field completely shuts down any and all magic related to there native element, Fighter with a Flameing swords near a Harginn... poof the flames go out, a Wizard tries to cast a Lighting bolt spell while a Ildriss is near by... fizzle puff, nothing!. Spells, Spell like Effects, Explosive Glyphs based elements, Elemental Barriers you name it, if its got the same Elemental traits as the Grue near by its dispell'd. The only exception being Magic Items with Elemental Effects, while within the grues nullifying field their effects are supressed but not destroyed completly.
While this trait sees few Grue into the Prime, a wise spell caster specialising in a particular Element can use a summoned Grues field to thwart an opposing Elemental Specialists Spell Casting. However, dealing with such vile elemental beings regulary isnt worth the hassle.
**Well I finaly completed full and released, my two 1st Edition AD&D Elemental Grue Models I began as my first dive ito NWN modeling over 3 years ago, and here they are for you to enjoy. This ZIP comes with:-

I havent included and .erf files since I havent bothered Converting the Grues from 1st Edition AD&D to 3rd Edition (mainly since Im unsure how to programme there Nullifying Field effect), others are free to do so.**

Thanks Amethyst, glad you like em, and I like what you did with my Air Grue in your Old school Elemental hak.

These are excellent models. I particularly like the air grue, and plan to use it as a basis for altering air elementals in my game. _________________________ World of Aenea (Hall of Fame PW and the origin of all my works)

Great work, I would however like to see the remaining two elementals. It may be hard to do somethings (like the 8 legs), but based upon these two the payoff would be more than worth it. Keep up the good work. _________________________ Time is never on your side.

Molo67 : -
Hmm realy?, didnt notice that myself. I might have too small value for the transition on those 2 animations. Thanks for the vote though :P . One thing ive realised also is that I forgot to make there textures DDS :P , ill have to do an update some time to fix that.

Excellent work! Models, textures and anims are all top notch, must be seen in action to fully appreciate. Love how the Ildiss "walks" :D The harginn's transition from walking/running to standing still is slightly abrupt, but that's a very minor quibble, so these still easily deserve a 10. :) Thanks for these! _________________________ NWN Shield Reskins Link New Small Shields Link

Comment Time :P
RivickofFire:-
Thanks for the complement, I personaly think there a little primitive since my abilities to model and texture have gotten alot better in the last 3 years (although I still love my Ildriss (Air grue) since it was my first fully animated and completed NWN model, and for its time a fully emitter based creature was something no one had done yet).
Nexorcist:-
I still have the textured Chagrinn and Vardigg models on my hard drive although they havent been animated, I sort of half did the idleing animation for the Vardigg, but animating 8 legs realy put me off it i had some neat animation ideas for it to, with water jets and the like :P , I may one day attempt to get the two final grues animated but not planning to at the moment.
Kris C:-
They havent changed noticable, apart from a few tweeks with emitters on the Harginn (they where a little to opaque for my tastes) and added some ember spark emitters as well as makeing its jaw double sided nothings changed since I first finnished them 3 years ago. The models used in Adam millers Demon module are exactly the same except for whats mentioned above although Id use these ones personaly.
dr.Nick :-
Aye the ildriss is best seen in motion :P , one word of warning, DONT have to many on screen at once, not sure if its just my graphics card but to much transparency on screen at once (not the total number of transparent useing objects on screen but how much area of the screen is covered by transparent objects at any one time) results in some REALY bad frame rates, hopefully its just my old graphics card. But try not to have more than 1 or 2 at once, and dont fight them with the camera up close :P unless your PC can handle it.
As for the nulliying field aye its an interesting power, thanks to the spellhook feature NWN now has (something that didnt exist back when I made these) you can route spells to check if its an Elemental one the Grue would nullify, is being cast and halt the spell.
As for their 3rd Edition Stats I might try to make a conversion and package an ERF with the Zip, since I dont think many people without 1st or 2nd edition knowledge would know a thing about the Elemental Grues. If you get that Nullifying field script done I'll gladly incorporate it into the ERF.
Raven_Xan :-
Thanks for the Complement

Fantastic, I remember seeing the screenshots for these and wips of the other two, are you planning on releasing the others any time in the future?
Have these changed since their first appearance in Adam Miller's Demon module? :o

woooaaa! badass creatures!
i was going to say: the air one is nice, the fire one is outstanding, until i noticed the air grue's tentacles... wow!
definately two of my favourite models from now on. and you are right, they truly look utterly evil ;)
ps: i don't own the 1st edition mm, but that nullifying field really sounds tempting to script. as you can probably figure, i haven't played demon, so i don't know if adam miller already did sth like that in his module. if not, you should write a script that applies the nullifying field as a custom area of effect... and if you won't, i'll just give it a try anyways ;)
