Adds new familiars and companions to the game! Both lists are with this hak expanded to 17 creatures.
Can also simply be used as an override for any module. Simply export all hakpak resources into your override folder.
FAIR WARNING: I only needed the first 10 levels of ACs/Fams for my first module. It is pretty tedious and time-consuming work, so until my 2nd module is well-along, I may not find the time to add more levels to this package. UNLESS it sees a lot of comments and downloads, in which case I'll consider it sooner. :) Requests/interest for the expanded levels would hasten the process... ;)
Here's the list of standard AC's and Fam's for reference:
AC's: Dire Wolf, Wolf, Dire Rat, Dire Boar, Bear, Hawk, Spider, Panther. Fam's: Ice Mephit, Fire Mephit, Imp, Fairiedragon, Pseudodragon, Raven, Panther, Hell Hound, Pixie, Bat, Eyeball.
and here is what I'm adding, and a bit about the design of each:
AC's
* Crab: Beware of the pincers!
* Crag Cat: Hits almost as hard as the bear, and slightly harder to hit.
* Ferret: Screech gets progressively better; fast, hard to hit.
* Penguin: Taunts enemies*
* Skunk: Duh. Sprays enemies with stinkiness... Some enemies instinctively fear the little bugger, too.
* Seagull: Great for scouting, fastest mover around. Can use Called Shot*. High AC, but low HP.
* Snow Leopard: Faster and harder hitting than the panther, but not as strong.
* Viper: Bites hard, with some poison.
* Winter Wolf: has that trademark wintry fresh breath!
Fam's:
* Ice Spider: Unusually hard chitin reduces damage, but poison is weak, damage average.
* Black Cat (house-cat size!): Stealths well, curses your enemies!
* Will-'O-Wisp: immune to elemental damage, shocks enemies, and can dominate/charm... but very weak HP, attacks.
* Owlbear: Big, strong... hard not to hit, though.
* Blink Dog: Teleports around in combat.
* Asp: Very poisonous bite.
* Giant ant: They get multiple attacks (like Monks, actually) which do less damage, but there are more per round. And have decent AC.
*If your AI supports it... I recommend Tony K's AI, which I use in my modules to get the most out of companions/henchmen. :) Here is the first one of my modules to use it:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=5052
This hakpak includes 2 scripts, which I needed to add for the Blink Dog's ability. Partly, for the teleporting in combat, but mainly for their ability to summon packmates.
Otherwise, it contains NUMEROUS creature blueprints. It uses only existing CEP and NWN creature items.
This download has seen some minimal testing for balance; but let's face it, the original ACs and Fams weren't balanced anyway... If you wish to address that, you can tinker with these, and then go to the following link to address the originals:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=611
I will also consider suggestions for better balance (that also keep things fun).
This entire effort is thanks to Axe, and this tutorial:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=other.Detail&id=1104
The download including the hakpak, a demo module, an override folder, and a readme. :) Small update to fix black cat done on Aug 19. Further fixes to several critters whose scripts were off done Aug 21.
The only reason I did not download this is because of the lack of levels.
This seems very, very promising otherwise. _________________________ "A dagger in the night is worth a thousand swords at dawn..."

Lots o stuff, I am happy with this. _________________________ @===============================================@
Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.
This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

@Khaos1987: I've thought of doing something for pally's before, yes. I'm waiting for DLA's horses though. The wait should be pretty much over--if they don't have a paladin mount, you can bet within days I, or someone else will have it added to the class. :) Thanks for the vote and the comment! _________________________ Aspiring author; NWN builder and DM.

Now this is a good idea turned into a better hak. Excellent work my friend. I will be watching for those epic level fams and ACs. The normal ones really lose their touch at epic levels, I hope yours will be just as useful at level 40 as they are at level 10. (Which is very useful!)
Also, have you ever thought of doing the paladin's special mount as a part of this pack? They lost that abilitiy in NWN, and even though a few people have tried to recreate it, they don't seem to function too well.

*sigh* I need a new keyboard. As I was saying, including a folder with just the resources needed for doing it via override, for those who are unfamiliar with the hakpak editor utility. And the size of the download is still SMALL! :P _________________________ Aspiring author; NWN builder and DM.

Oops is right. :P I forgot on the black cat and two other familiars to apply the correct scripts. I have fixed this, and am uploading a new package (including the files in an override folder for people who aren't familiar` _________________________ Aspiring author; NWN builder and DM.

Dirgesinger: I installed this into a module, including the tlk file, and the menagerie hak on the top and it worked - sort of...
I got all the extra familiars (yay!) but the black cat I chose as a familiar just stood there. It 'moved' when I went through a transition or possessed the animal, but the rest of the time it just stood there!
The seagull, however, worked beautifully!
Despite this minor hick-up which I'm sure you will fix, the fact that it was so easy to install into a CEP module and the sheer variety this hak adds, you've earned yourself another ten.
I might set up a mini-mod so I can test them all out and report back... BTW the mod I used was Saleron's Gambit - Chapter 1 which, in chapter 5, takes the PC beyond level 10 - so you have one keen fan for levels beyond 10 here.
When the next version of DoD is out, I might try add the CEP and this hak to it as well - as long as you add the levels... Great Fun!
Cheers,
Mungo

Thanks. Looking forward to your mod...

Ok, there was an error in the .2da file hen_familiar.2da. This is now fixed, but if you do not wish to re-download, then in that file simply remove the space between "Black" and "Cat" in line 16...
Also fixed whatever it is I did to make those images all screwy. Weird! :P _________________________ Aspiring author; NWN builder and DM.

Dirge, I'll definitely be using this for my ranger module. Great stuff, man.
@MasterDecoy: I may be able to find time to bring it up to 20th level this week, though probably not higher for now. :)
Thanks for the votes and comments!

Definitely interested in the higher levels; I love new options for AC and Familiars!

Very cool. I really, really like the smaller familiars and companions such as the black cat and the ferret. Mostly because, from a Roleplaying perspective, the PC could actually hold them/place them in a backpack. Soon, the snakes and probably even the seagull fall into that category too.
I considered, back when you announced it at the NWN boards, suggesting making the ice spider, for example, spiderling size, but then it wouldn't be very believable as a heavy-hitting monster with damage resistance. :)
Anyway, thanks for releasing this, great stuff!
