No problem. I was just exploring the subject a little bit, to ensure that people interested in such things were not scared off by the concerns posted. It sounds like we all agree that these models are beind used appropriately here.
However, as you quite correctly say, different people have different "comfort zones" when it comes to using existing work, even work that is freely provided for such purposes on the web. I think it's very good for people to be aware of different perspectives on such issues, including your own personal experiences. So thanks for contributing that.
Thanks again, Grzech_U, for sharing these EXCELLENT models with the NWN community! I can't wait to see more! _________________________ - Invisig0th
Hail! My previous posts have been deleted at my request...well, one of them was at my request, the other was by accident because I didn't clearly state which one I wanted removed.
For the record, I did NOT say that there is anything wrong with converting and posting these free models from TurboSquid. What I said was that I decided not to do this myself last year, because I could not get BioWare to make any kind of statement regarding whether, in their opinion, using models from TurboSquid would be considered a EULA violation by the people who made NWN. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with using public domain material in an NWN game. There may be a gray area if the models are sold on TurboSquid rather than given away as free downloads. Since none of the models in this package are "for sale" models, they shouldn't be a problem. I chose not to make myself the test case, that's all.
The authors have purposefully provided these models for exactly this sort of use. That what the Turbosquid site is for. Turbosquid specifically grants members the right to download the models and use them in games, even *commercial* games (i.e. games that you charge people money for). There should be no concern whatsoever with using them for absolutely free community-built mods, such as NWN modules on NWVault. Converting these models for use in NWN is *exactly* the sort of use that the authors intended the models to be used for when they made them available.
I look forward to seeing more of your excellent work with converting these models and making them usable by the NWN community, Grzech_U. Thank you for doing this! _________________________ - Invisig0th
