This is the third in the PHoD Metal Tilesets series and, in my own humble estimation, the best so far. Considerably darker and nastier than the Tartarus colony depicted in the Metal City, the surrounding Wastelands are an unprecedentedly dangerous realm seemingly inhabited solely by a succession of ever more deadly predators.
(In the Tartarus Modules I've almost exclusively used music from the ALIEN films for the Wastelands Areas which should give you the general idea of tone... Just think of the fight music from AvP whilst looking at the screenshots and you pretty much know all you need to know.)
Foremost amongst these lethal creatures is (my Tartarus PC) Ferala, an eight foot tall, metal-clawed carnivore with abundant curves, muscle and homicidal intent. (And the soundset of a Pseudodragon).
Thanks here to Ryuujin for the so-excellent double-jointed leg models and to Ben Harrison for submitting some months ago to a barrage of demands for scaled up parts to make Ferala, and my other Demoness PC, the height they should be.
The Wastelands are Ferala's home and hunting ground and as such the most important 'location' in my Tartarus Modules. I therefore have, so far, no less than three Tilesets to represent them, the hope being to ultimately merge them all into a huge Superset. But that's very much in the future. The Metal Mountains and Metal Rifts still require alot of work before they're 'finished' but in the meantime, here's the completed reskin of the barely recognizable BioWare Rural Tileset.
This gives NWN builders a dark, bleak wasteland sort of place with bizarre metal "rocks" and (hopefully) interesting looking alien structures. You also get tin-plated outpost buildings which should look in keeping with the PHoD Metal City. (This is called 'continuity' by we mad scientists.) You also also get some other strange stuff and also also also get weird bio-mechanoid trees, the textures of which (as far as I know) mark the first appearance of H.R. Giger's art into NWN.
As you will note from the unecessarily ridiculous over-abundance of screenshots (all simply taken in-game from one of the Tartarus Modules) I do rather like this Tileset...
So please do vote for it! Otherwise, I might cry... Or more than likely go and seal myself within one of my Dalek casings and seethe in an embittered fashion to myself... and that always leads to me foaming at the mouth and ranting about how I shall Exterminate the Lesser Races, Conquer the Universe and become the Supreme Being!
And then Fifi has to tranquilize me and it's all best avoided really...
A note on Placeables...
Some of the elements of the Metal Wastelands, for maximum convenience and choice in Area building, are made as Placeables, for example the Metal Pyramids, and these are NOT available in the Tileset as it's already pushing the 25MB limit for submissions.
Before you despair and start beating your heads against your computer monitors whilst calling me a Low, Vile, Contemptible, Detestable, Execrable Placeable Witholder (which isn't the easiest thing to call someone) the PHoD Metal Placeables Pack #1, which contains pyramids, huge building, walls, bizarre monuments with Giger textures, metal statues, pillars, minaret, tower, etc, will be available within 24 hours or so of the Metal Wastelands. (Can't do it all at the same time as this computer can only do so much UL/DL before suffering a debilitating brain aneurysm.) So, keep an eye out for that. (The Placeables Pack that is, not a computer having a spectacularly uninteresting diode aneurysm.)
Note. The little Turf House feature is a null Tile. It doesn't work. It won't crash anything but it won't appear either, so just ignore it.
LOADSCREENS! Yes! At absolutely no extra cost, this Tileset comes with the awesome Metal Tilesets Loadscreen Expansion Pack! Which is just as well because the selection of loadscreens with the previous two Tilesets was pathetic. There were 3 with the City and 2 with the Crypt. Utterly pathetic.
But now, with the Metal Wastelands Tileset, Director's Cut, Special Edition, in widescreen, you get a mighty 37 loadscreens for Wastelands, City and Crypt! (And also a couple that give a little preview of the Metal Mountains and Metal Castle Interior, the latter of which should be available moderately soon. For a not very exciting preview image, see the shot of Juhani in a corridor from the "KotOR:Legacy" Module which is on my Vault Interview (Link on any of my posted comments; bound to be one here soon!).
Note - To use Loadscreens, Wastelands must be ABOVE other PHoD Mental Tilesets. Sorry. That should read 'Metal' Tilesets. (See ReadMe for tripe about door 2das and boring stuff like that).
As always with these Tilesets, vast thanks to Stacy and Goudea whose textures formed the basis I have been increasingly mutilating ever since. (Huge, Gojira-sized apology to Stacy, by the way. Been spelling it Stacey thus far! Sorry. The only Stacey I know in the physical world spells her name Stacey so I'm just used to writing it that way. Sorry. I've noticed the error now. Won't happen again!)
Thanks also to H.R. Giger for his inspirational art (bits of which I've 'borrowed').
Thanks also also to BioWare, the Community and let's not forget IGN's valiant Vault crew.
Please see the Dribblingly Insane Readme file for details, loadscreen information, a word on scribbled gravestones, pointless repetition, some glaring omissions (see if you can spot 'em) and the horrifying truth about the Fifteenth Church of the Apocalyptic Walrus...

The DARK CRYSTAL.
Nearly.
PHoD ought to license some of his settings to Pen and Paper RPG companies. I'm in the process of making a general purposes, skill increase based PnP system myself, and the setting that is described in his comments (Tartarus) seems very well written and brutal (in fact, the brutality would make it a good fit for the kind of settings I think would fit the best in my own almost-finished product)
I honestly wish I'd heard of this setting before, but it's relative unknown status would actually be a boon to someone hoping to purchase the rights to use it as a PnP setting (As in many ways the buyer would be paying to advertise the story written in the comics).

Megadeth has a very intelligent way of talking about governments and religions: Either they bullshit you or try to kill you for not being one of them. I wholeheartedly agree.

The Metal Castle Interior is undergoing a few last minute stupidities and should be on the Vault inside the next couple of days. The Mountains, on the other hand, are still in the "being poked with pointed sticks" stage. Elements of the Tileset work fine, the elements that I require right now, but there's more that hasn't yet been sorted out and thus has the appearance of a huge Wombat. Sort of. I don't want to release half a Tileset so I'm afraid I can't give a specific date on that one yet. Sorry.

i just love this tileset! so atmospheric... thanx, thanx, thanx, phod! Awesome work. love the screenies, your friend ferala looks like she could whip the alien and the predator with one hand! cool loadscreens too, i have to go vote on the other metal tilesets... but when do we get that castle interior and the mountains? soon, huh, please?
Hey guys, thanks for the votes and the good reaction!
Graymaster, Shandi.ni.Kayara - Glad someone likes the idiot ReadMe nonsense that comes completely free with my stupid Haks... But if you liked this one, you're going to LOVE the ReadMe coming up with the PHoD Metal Placeables... Not only do you learn all about the foot epithelium of the Great Grey Field Slug (Deroceras reticulatum) and its curious relevance to bio-temporal feedback in recombinant DNA strands, you also get the thrilling entry on the curious reticence of Ocelots to eat Strawberries and the HORRIFYING rampage of the Giant Undead Skunk in Episode 4 of Fifteenth Church of the Apocalyptic Walrus...
And apart from the exciting ReadMe, you also get some Placeables too.
Speaking of which, the Placeables include several Giger elements and spiky things perfect for increasing this Tileset's 'LV-426 quotient'.
And it's uploading to the Vault as we speak... write... damn... I've confused myself...
I haven't even dowloaded this one and I'm giving it a ten. I'm forbidding myself from downloading any other haks until I finish several projects, and this might just be enough to make me get around to them. _________________________ Friends do not have to be like us.

Neato, looks sweet. A tileset meant for some planar fun.
