After looking at the skinned monsters I tried to see how this could be applied to robes. Obviously this doesn't work for PC characters unless the PC model is replaced by an NPC model. Adding the mdl file to your override folder is the easiest way to give it a test run. The model replaces the human female model no. 9.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 4 that made this score of 9.25 then rounded to 9.

Is the download suppose to be in text format? Will I need 3Dmax to convert the file back to '.MDL' before placing it in the 'override' folder? This looks like a sweet model, but I can't get it to work. I'm working on my first mod and have been trying to find a dress for so long. Please help. THANKS!

The only way I see this working for PCs a change in the engine and BW has said many times it's not happening. The big problem is that PC models are made up of parts that share the same animation files and I don't think you could add more parts to them. NPC models that aren't made up of the basic races contain their own animation files, so you can give them just about any feature and animate it. If you can somehow make more body parts for the armor, then maybe... but I don't see how you can do that since there is no option to change them in the toolset.

Well, there may be another way...
Have you ever played Ultima IX(9)?
Well, if you look at the enemy "wyrmguard-model's", you'l see that they are wearing "chainmail-robes", and the models are built in a way similar to NWN.
The way tees robes was made, was to make the model of each part of the leg, so large that it eventually looked like a robe (closed both in frot, and behind) It will not look exeptionally good, but it is at least not too difficult to make...

After giving this model a good looking at, I can only think "Hrmm, there must be a way!"
I can only wonder if it would be possible to have the skin node attached to only a single part of a PC model, i.e. skinmesh for top half of the skirt (waist to knees) is attached to the appropriate part, for bottom half of the skirt (from the knees down) is attached to lower legs...Or perhaps it'd be possible to just make the entire legs and skirt one "piece" of the PC model, with invisible replacements for the standard legs...might that work? If not, it's a real pity, because the skinmesh here looks great. I'm only a novice modeller myself, so I don't know what I could offer beyond that.
Of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of skeleton the often-used PC wings attach to? Is it pre-existing? Or is one added to the torso? Because if one can be added to the torso....

I had some trouble getting everything to work, but once I did, I had to admit, I loved the model. If this could be an item, maybe in a belt slot or as part of a costum armour, that would be perfect, especially if it were colourable like the normal pieces. Maybe even a mini / short / long / floorlenght variant option?
But I'm probably asking the impossible here ^_^
Anyway, great job and keep up the good work.

Very nice, I hope that someone can find a way to make a dress like this useable for PCs. The top half of the dress as a thigh modle and the bottem of the dress as a shin modle is a good idea, try that out.
That's realy interesting, continue to work on it that's great.

Hmmm, this pak sure has a lot of potential. Try e-mailing BioWare and telling them how you did this, maybe they can put an option in the item apperance editor that says like "Cover All Legs". You could choose the thighs and legs like normal, but if you clicked the new option, it would turn the thighs and leg options grey so you couldn't select them, or something like that.

Try coordinating with Lisa on this one. Your work has enough potential to give Bioware a run for their money.

hmmm... I have been thinking...
wouldn't it be easiets to add half a dress model to the thighs section and the bottom half to the shins areas.
Would that work?

you need to ZIP the file!

Perhaps this could be added as a new base model, rather then trying to implement the dress as an equipable item ?

So how much time did it take to do this one model, because it's very impressive. I just stuck it in a test mod, and dress animaton is great. Too bad no one has been able to figure out how to get this on PC's.

Have you tried to take your 3d Skirt and applied it to a armor belt area, rather then making it replace a human model. This may make it workable for PC's. Just make is as Lisa's did, when the skirt(Belt) is selected it makes the thigh model of the char disapear, or when the skirt is choosen it removes the ability to choose leg textures. I have played with armors that when put on removes a piece of the PC's body type. Perhaps this is the solution. Just a quick thought i had. BTW looks great! Keep Up the great work.

We have already seen a Half-Fiend with an unremovable arm, no matter what the armor was. If this was done with a skirt, the torso would still be changeable. Can it be done? Of course the skirt should be the same colour as the upper body.

I wonder, lisa prevents clipping by removing legs and sush from the pc right? What if the legs where a part of the robe/dress model?

As far as doing this for PC's goes...I worked on the idea some time ago while playing around with winged PC's (Wings are skin nodes as well). For some reason that I have yet to solve, trying to attach a skin node to a PC model causes two problems.
A). If attached as a child to, say, a torso node, the skin winds up looking like it's been put through a blender.
B). If you get around this by attaching the skin to a racial skeleton (this was feasible for wings, but wouldn't make much sense for a dress), it winds up ruining the model's environment mapping (ie. armour shinniness) by making it ghostly transparent.
The only real way to apply a decent skin node to a PC is to make it a VFX. Unfortunately, this leaves the skin unable to respond to any actions or animations the PC performs.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not sure the community will be able to solve this problem without major (and unlikely) BioWare changes to the the way the graphics engine handles PC's and Skins.

it appers like yo umanaged to get a skirt model that has collision feature...if this is so i think yo umanaged to do solve one of the greates problems the modding community has been struggling against so far, even if you havent solved out all of the bugs....*s* Do hope you can find a way to make it available for Pc´s,i for onwe would like to see some decent Kilts, chain shirts and hakamas (samurai «skirts») for my male pc´s...as well as mague robes etc.keep up the great work.
