Title  Sleeping Drow Placeables
Author  hmmm83
Submitted / Updated  11-16-2002 / 11-17-2002
Category  Placeables
Model Format  BioWare Standard
Description
Here are three drow sleepers to add to the last package (Sleeping NPC Placeables). I discovered .dds, so the textures are a bit better. I included 2 scripts to make your NPC's go to bed at night and wake up in the morning. These are intended for use with the tileset beds. Salut

Drow are cursed and corrupted elves, so anything goes :)

In fact the modules D3 Vault of The Drow, and Q1 Queen of Spiders defiantly imply that Drow sleep unlike the elven rave from whom they were sundered millenia ago ago...

a drow is a subrace of elf so i think thay sleep the same way but i mite be wrong and i now this becose my main pc is a drow and. but mabey some can and some cant and also i think that the drow head shouldn't have a moustache becose it says in the D&D players guide that elfs never have facial hair and once again drows are just a surace of elf.

How can I get that drow head with moustache for PC model? I'd like that look for my drow weaponmaster

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 7 that made this score of 7.43 then rounded to 7.

Rabidgoalie said that none of his one-hundred and fifty books (nor the dozens he had in digital format) said anything about the fact that drow had lost their ability to enter reverie.

Elaine Cunningham mentions it in her series of books called "Daughter of the Drow", which are about Liriel Baenre.

I agree, Spayced. Salvator is a pimp. 'Aint no city greater than Menzoberanzen.

Oh I DO enjoy a good 'ol conflict to liven up the scene. My Three cents: Drow sleep. Elves Reverie. They aren't the same being. Neither dream. As for the hair? I'm not sure... Id like a shoutout to the Salvatore. Thats my main man, man.

Posted by Nitocris ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-01 21:29:00
These are totally awesome. I'm going to use them for "sleeping" drow in my new module. Yes.. sleeping..with a dagger in their backs from their fellows.. Mm..

Posted by Soopaman ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-04-12 22:25:00
Bad Guy: you got the right idea all the way. R.A. Salvatore rocks and so do sleeping drow w/mustaches and pubes!

Posted by Bad Guy ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-04-08 13:33:00
All you stupid retards are wrong. Well, not all of you, just the ones who you think you know it all.

Drow do sleep. Elves CAN sleep, like any human, as someone mentioned before. Drow enjoy their sleep, and are often guided into it while being massaged by their favorite thrall. So shut up, all of you, and buy a damned book. R.A. Salvatore explains things pretty easily if you're too cheap to buy a D&D Players Guide.

Oh and by the way, it IS just a fantasy game. I believe that TSR (Wizards of the Coast for all you newbs, which most of you seem to be) calls it "Sword and Sorcery." ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. Dur!

Duck the Mighty and Garrick, I do not know where you read that drow lost their ability to enter reverie, but please post this source because I have played for over fifteen years and I have never read that in any of the books that I have (which is over one-hundred and fifty, not counting the dozens that I have in digital format). I am not saying this to imply that you are wrong, I am only saying this because I would like to know FOR SURE if they can or can't. It is my understanding that the only diffences between drow and other elves (besides innate powers) is philosophical and esthetic. Again, please post this source of information because I really want to know now. :-)

Guus Pot is absolutely correct. If you want drow that go to the beach, hand out flowers at the airport, and set themselves on fire to protest war...THAT IS EVERYONES CHOICE! This is fantasy, and ANYTHING is possible. If you want an elf that looks like a wookie, you can do that too (please send me a picture...I think that would be hilarious). As far as an elf who smokes weed...well I have always felt that elves are as close to hippies as you can get without a VW bus (hehehe).

To close, does it really matter if these models are academically correct? Not all of NWN adheres to the rules of AD&D anyway...so who cares. I only posted what I did in hopes that it would help someone out, not because I am trying to force my ideas on everyone. And _NO_ Duck the Mighty, I do not think that I am smarter than I really am. But I do know that I have played AD&D longer than computer games have tried to recreate the experience of it (except of coarse the text-based games on the old Commodore 64's...those where kind of fun).

Posted by Velexia ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-03-31 22:16:00
ok now I want my character to sleep like that ^_^

Posted by Duck the Mighty ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-03-21 13:55:00
You people think you're smarter than your really are. Elves do not sleep, DROW do. The dark-elves lost the ability to enter reverie, which was granted them by the gods of the Selderine, when they went into exile.

Posted by auriel ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-03-21 09:03:00
OMG what kind of sad people are you?
i mean... WHO THE HELL CARES IF ELVES HAVE PUBES!!! GET A GIRLFREIND AND SEE IF SHE HAS SOME!!! SHEESH....

Posted by Drake ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-03-11 19:24:00
It appears that there is a problem with the
leg texture on the female drow.
Her boots show up as solid white.
Anyone else getting this?

All the other sleepers look fine.

Posted by Guus Pot ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-03-06 05:40:00
Why is everybody giving such a discussion about this ? Like
someone said. If somebody want sto make an elf that has to
shave her legs on a ragular basis, so be it. If anybody
wants to make an elf that sleeps, So be it. It's a fantasy
game, guys. Fantasy as in 'the only limits to the
possibillities are the limits of your imagination'

So if i want to, for instance, make an elf that smokes
weed, waxes her pubes every week and has hair on her back,
then i damned well will... As soon as i learn how to make
Models for NWN.

Thank you for your attention.

Posted by Garrick ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-02-27 19:23:00
Actually, the drow lost the ability to replace sleep with
reverie when they left the Seldarine. Sorry peeps. Oh,
and no, elves do not have hair anywhere but on their heads.

Posted by lorrdyn ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-02-06 19:56:00
Fantasy authors agreed that the only hair elves can have
is from their neck up.

Posted by Gunndar ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-17 00:58:00
Riddle me this... do elves has pubes then??? Any takers???

Posted by guru7892 ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-04 19:05:00
ya know we wouldnt have this big argument if he used half-
orcs or some other race, so can we just pretend that there
not elves for just a little bit?

Posted by Ultimo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-03 19:19:00
Until Reverie is mentioned in my 3rd edition phb, Elves
sleep like babies.

Posted by rabidgoalie ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-01-03 18:04:00
"Yet another difference between elves and the other
humanoids of the worlds they share is that elves do not
sleep in the typical sense, though they can enter that
state if they desire. Instead, they gain their rest through
a process known as 'the reverie'. The reverie is akin to
sleep, yet is very much unlike it. When elves enter this
state, they vividly relive past memories, those both
pleasant and painful. Like the dreaming of humans, elves
have no control over which memories rise to the fore when
they relinquish their bodies to the reverie. Occasionally,
elves do actually dream, but this is not a frequent
occurrence and mostly occurs only when they truly sleep." -
an excerpt from PHBR8, The Complete Book of ELVES.

I have been a PnP DM for over fifteen years, and a player
before that, with mostly everyone playing elves in these
campaigns (doesn't anyone like dwarves of halflings?). So,
I have been forced to explore the world of the elf quite a
bit! Elves DO sleep...if they want to (or if someone casts
a really lucky sleep spell :-). As for drow not entering
reverie, I am quite certain that they are able to enter
that state, but why would they when a sibling or
subordinate would take that opportunity to 'prune the
family tree'? Besides, in a world such as the drows, ANY
memory is bound to be bad, so why bother to relive it!? As
far as facial hair is concerned, any elf (drow or
otherwise) that has facial hair has human ancestry of some
sort, because elves DO NOT have facial hair. They were
created by their god, Corellon Larethian, into the form
they now occupy. They skipped the evolution process
undergone by so many other races (they also don't have
canine teeth for the same reason), and facial hair is a
natural insulator used to stave off the cold (which elves
are practically immune to anyway). I am not trying to be a
know-it-all, but I have a _LOT_ of experience with drow and
elves in general and I know how popular they are, so I
offer my humble knowledge in hopes that it will clear up
some misconceptions about elves. But as Ishtanna and
Stripes said, you can do whatever you like, this is a
FANTASY game after all. :-)

These are very nicely done placeables, no matter how
academically correct they may or may not be! They will fit
in to any drow based module very well (maybe a drow massage
parlor or festhall). Thank's for the good work!

Posted by Haevlyn ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-28 16:50:00
Yes Jerel... Elves don't sleep per se, they sit down and
slide into the Reverie...
But you're wrong in the sense that they don't sleep at all.
I think you'll find that because drow elves strayed from
the lands of light their ways changed from the high, grey,
sylvan and aquatic elves. You'll find that drow elves *do*
sleep.... simply because they have forgotton how to slip
into the Reverie.

Nice job... going into my drow-based mod.

Posted by Ishtanna ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-12 20:40:00
I think he did a wonderful job. Don't blame him for the game
creators for their depiction of drow. Second, as stripes
said, this is a flexible game. We can make up whatever we
want and make whoever do it to whatever whereever. This game
is for the creative minded D&D players. And did you ever
think that someone could have cursed that drow with facial
hair or that he made some kind of potion or spell to give
himself the illusion of it? Think about it.... =)

Posted by stripes ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-12-03 19:17:00
You people are too closed minded, we don't have to use
just ideas given from D&D make up your own races with
whatever you want them to do, maybe in my world an elf can
have a beard even, or sleep 23 hours a day, who cares?

Posted by Kendaric Varkellen ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-11-27 04:49:00
@ Lord Lightbane
True, normal elves can't grow facial hair but drow males
have often been shown with moustaches (2nd Ed. Monster
Compendium, miniatures made by Ral Partha...).
At least in 2nd Ed. they were described as growing
moustaches.

Also... is that one sleeping in full chainmail? OUCH!

Nice job, but the details'll getcha. ;)

Posted by Lord Lightbane ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-11-18 19:21:00
lol. I think they messed up there...cuz elves can't grow
facial hair or any hair at all except for on the head for
that matter :). I think the idea totally sucked, but they
probably wanted to make drow look different from a simple
elf male model with different colour hair&skin.

Posted by Smash ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-11-18 18:56:00
Something I never figured out : WHY did they give the male
drow mustaches???
