Welcome to the world of Raion, a world made of the eras of the universe. You are part of an expedition into the depths of Mt. Seri in the Seri Desert, to uncover artifacts at an old dig site. The remains of a crescent gem begin your adventure of danger,
Description
8th Place NWN 2 Module Idea Contest Winner:
Chandelier Lights takes place in a world known as Raion. The year is 344 TE (Third Era). The world seems that it has reached a peak: nations of civilized races, large technological advancements such as flying ships (cheesy, yet effective), and a surprisingly large thirst for knowledge. Raion is, for one reason or another, largely rooted in mystery. There are numerous theories as to why, with the most popular being that the leaders of the First Era sought to destroy all knowledge of the downfall of the time before the Eras began. The Second Era occurred with the overthrow of the oppression of knowledge, and the Third Era after the Battle of that Erias Key, an artifact rumored to have powers beyond that of all the spells in the world combined.
Still, the search for knowledge goes on, and the adventure of Chandelier Lights begins with such a search. You arrive in the Seri Desert, as a member of an expedition. Whether you are hired protection, a researcher, or of a different position shall be decided by one of the first conversations taking place. The traveling party finally reaches its destination: Mount Seri. Remains of a dig site of the Second Era have recently been discovered, and the Institute of Second Era Enigmas has funded the expedition. Apparently the Second Era researchers got as far as finding a door into a dungeon, but not much farther inside. The team goes inside, with you leading, either due to drawing straws or youre the muscle of the group.
After being attacked by a small group of zombies, you meet a floating light that advises you turn back. Classic. Nevertheless, you proceed onward, since youll likely serve a prison sentence if you come back empty handed (due to your breach of contract with the Institution). You continue to proceed through the dungeon, coming across a room filled with treasure. In the corner room, next to all the stacks of gold, books, and treasures, lays a crescent-shaped gem. Its translucent, yet still has substance to it. Whether you show it to the rest of the group or not, the rest of the group packs up a variety of items: weapons, books, spell scrolls, and a large variety of shiny objects. You all load up and exit the dungeon. After you wade the rest of the day out, you begin traveling at night, until you come across Gahlil, a small town on the outskirts of the desert.
The expedition spends the night at the local inn, and during that night, someone comes breaking into your window. The figure is covered in dark clothing, and their face masked and cloaked. Theyre definitely male; he covers your mouth (text says it, doesnt actually appear on screen), and then says to you, Leave the vescaras (an elven word meaning, roughly, sacred artifact) here, lest the consequences be dire. And with that, he exits the same way he came in. After explaining last night to your fellow party members, you take an airship across oceans and lands back to Borlandi, capital of the country of Noralis. After numerous dull meetings and presentations, you and the rest of the party are first on the tour of the museum that houses most of your findings (minus whatever you decided to keep for yourself *wink wink nudge nudge*). This doesnt include the crescent gem, as for some reason, the institution decided not to keep it, saying it had no value.
And therein lies their error. And therein begins your adventure.
- Projected to have multiple romance plotlines
- Play any type of character you wish
- Various endings, with both positive and negative effects on the world
- Anywhere from 5 to 12 hours of gameplay
- Plenty pop culture references that hopefully most people will get a laugh out of
PLOTLINE SPOILERS AHEAD
Fairly warned be ye, fan boys. ~ Leo, VG Cats
- The Chandelier will, essentially, be a very important piece of the module. It holds significant value to the plot. I envision the Chandelier to be a magical device, made in the shape of a chandelier. Crystals are what power it, like the one found in the Mt. Seri dig. In fact, the one in this module is the last one needed. With it, the ability to distort the fabric of time can be changed. The Chandelier can also be used as a portal to allow one to venture through the past and, supposedly, the future of Raion.
- Lights are, as you may have guessed from reading the above idea, the crystals. They allow certain powers to be added to the Chandelier. For example, the Light of Present Observation allows one to look at any moment within 5 years backwards. The Light of Past Observation allows sight to go back even farther. There are assumedly 19 crystals on the Chandelier. The player characters shall be the 19th. That crystal is the Light of Travel, the Light that supposedly allows users to travel through time.
- Although a minor idea, there should be plenty implication of space/universe concepts. Granted, space travel is not yet possible in the world of Raion, but perhaps the atmosphere of space would bring a new light to it Or perhaps something that just adds a supernatural feel to the module concept. Most of it will be in a normal-type fantasy setting, but a strange atmosphere would help the stranger parts, such as the room where the Chandelier is.

Strikes me as a good idea but not very original really.

Oh snap. . . XD
I apologize if I angered you in any way, shape, or form. But thanks for the high vote. ^^ I got over it after a good night's sleep, and doing some "soul-searching" and realizing all I really wanted was a copy, whether it be download or boxed.
Also, I think your concept is utterly genius. It seems a bit hard to code from my perspective, but as I said, the raw idea is amazing. It didn't have that much supporting detail, but it was still a pretty interesting idea.
If you do win a box, please don't feel to bad. You just got that last vote, and I'll learn to live with it. ^^ Plus, come next competition, I don't think I'll vote for my own. It introduces way too much bias from my view, so I'd rather be voting for other people in the community. Even so, I'd just rather have the mods pick then the community. But that's not the case here, so oh well, eh?
About the 10 though, nothing here is really a 10 work, but neither are they all that bad. Again, bias due to the community's part. Not that it's wrong or anything, it's just that it doesn't work out quite right. _________________________ Related Works:

I read that you were upset about someone swooping in and giving my module idea (Inn of Tales) a 10. That was my little brother back at home. He said he would be my last minute "savior," even though I told him both not to vote on mine and, if he did, not to give me a 10. Little brothers never listen.
You're right: I really don't deserve to be that highly rated; I think that people just like the concept of my module idea. Plus, it's not too much reading :-P
At least I made it into the top 20; that was my goal. I now gots me a free copy of NWN2 :-D
Btw, I read your idea. It's good. I'll be sure to play it when it comes out.

Yeah. It is a very good idea. ^^ Original and seems like I'd be alot of fun to play in my opinion. Choosing what job you want and all... and digging through old stuff. >.<
Looks like you put alot of effort into it.

I'll admit to feeling slightly guilty for voting for my own idea, but nevertheless, I am part of the community, and do get to decide what I think is good, and what I think great.
Nothing is perfect. My idea is not perfect. 10's on this site should not be given lightly, but I do believe my idea is not a full 10 idea. Nonetheless, I think it's pretty awesome. I'm really hoping it can be made into a module, even if I make it myself. That's not entirely likely since I'm too much of a procrastinator to do it, although there's the possibility I'd finish it. That said, I find my idea quite nice, but not ground-breaking on any level. That may be changed if it is made into a mod, but that not being the case, I give it a 9.5.
This far into the competition, my vote probably doesn't make that much of a difference. But I am still quite satisfied, proud, and glad to have earned a high rank in a competition of 150-something ideas. _________________________ Related Works:

Meph and Aess: Thanks for the comment. XD And the vote. The more the better! :3
I just somehow need to amass a score of 8.43 to break into 5th place, scoring me a retail box. w00ts! But I'm happy if I win something in the first place. XD _________________________ Related Works:

Another well done presentation. There are some rather common elements to the story, but originality for originalities sake is not so original. A good amount of work and a well designed story. Good Job!

Thanks, but the only problem is that it doesn't get me back my spot in the top 5! XD No retail box for Kenac. T_T Which means I can't resell it to my friends and buy the LE edition for cheaper. XD _________________________ Related Works:

This is well thought out. It has a good backstory with an interesting world concept (I like that fact that it ISN'T Faerun...). It sounds like the plot will be fairly linear, but what isn't? (It's very hard to avoid...) This is solid - I think this deserves somewhere between "Very Good, Deserves a Look" and "Excellent, Recommended to Anyone."

Definately deserves a look.. even if it has been done.. it sounds like you'd do it well.. well enough to enjoy playing! Good attention to detail.. and no.. I didn't read the spoilers.. and thanks for the spoiler alert!

I'd love to see this idea implemented even if you don't win the contest. The ideas you have described here are intriguing--I like potential for multiple endings/romance options--let's just hope you can achieve those goals. :-) _________________________ vivamus atque amemus

well why is the description divided in two? is the first part playable or not? I see no reason to make it a cutscene or limited story. but so far it's nothing orginal about it. not even a new twist.

Though you did work on those detais I'm all for 'simple is beautiful' and there are choices out there with way lesser details and way better ideas. That's IMHO of course!
As a module per se, I think it would work good and I might play it surely so have my good vote :)
