Good or Neutral. Evil characters wont have much fun
Description
This is a conversion of the classic DnD module of the same name, from 1980 by Gary Gygax. It was designed to be a basic hack-n-slash with very little roleplaying. You will wander down dark caverns, fight evil monsters and take their treasure! It was converted to NWN with the intention of making it as close as possible to the original. It took me six months, with over 140 bugs squashed and many sessions of playtesting to get this far. I wanted to make this module as high-quality and as fun as possible. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have! NOTE: This version, v1.21 requires SOU. If you want to play a 'classic' NWN, version v1.20 is also available here: http://www.nznights.com/downloads/Keep on the Borderlands (B2) HCR v120.zip

I just came back to Neverwinter Nights from having played it long ago. I only have vanilla NWN, so my comments are for version 120 (I greatly appreciate that this was available btw).
I had a lot of fun with this module. I never played the original myself but I do have it, and I remember reading parts of it and thinking it would be fun to run through it.
I played solo as a 3rd level cleric and the biggest issue I had was whenever I restored a save game, all the spells that I had previously memorized/prayed for were now gone. This is some setting in the Hardcore Ruleset I assume, but coupled with the inability to rest until 8 in game hours had passed, this was a real annoyance. The only way around this was to save just before resting.
Other than that, I found the module to be quite accurate in it's conversion, and the encounters to be pretty balanced.
As for making it better, I like the idea of a better reward and speech from the Castellan at the end. Also, it would be nice to get a better sell back rate from merchants (it was a let down when the module says a silver cup is worth 500 gp, but I could only sell it for 175). Finally, I would like the plot flags removed from some of the guards and doors in the keep (I went on a rampage for fun at one point and was mysteriously unable to damage some guards or break down the keep door).

No quests means no direction. I did not have fun with this module. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

A very nice conversion of one of the classics. I thought you did a great job recreating the spirit of old D&D.
One thing for single-player players who might get scared away from this mod because of the warning about certain devices need two PCs to operate: Don't worry, I completed this single player with a 6th level cleric (the special abilities of this class and level did sort of spoil some later encounters, but not too badly). The one thing you need to worry about is in Cave A and it's avoidable, so just make sure you save before going in.
I recommend this mod for groups or single players, but some relatively minor criticisms below:
I do think the 8.5 rating is a little high for one reason: you didn't flesh out the keep very much beyond giving everybody a unique name. Conversations could have been much richer, especially as the PC confirms or denies the rumors they tell him. Also, the baliff gave out invites over and over for the same quests being completed. Not good. There should also have been a sort of final word (and bigger reward) from the Castellan after the five quests are complete.
Finally, this mod would have been better if the PC's actions had more bearing on alignment. My lawful neutral cleric, after completing the mod, went on a little jaunt through the keep for fun and his lawfulness wasn't affected at all by breaking & entering, stealing, or murdering the guards. Consequences for actions are important in my opinion. Paladins and monks and assassins should all pay the price for out-of-alignment behaviour like this.
Anyway, that's my editorial. All things considered, I really like the mod and had great fun playing it. One of the better ones I've downloaded. Thanks, Stumble.

Great and faithful conversation of the B2 module.
only some comments:
- the henchmen system is awful. those guys die faster than flies and are darn stupid. Having no control over henchies doesn't help either. I droped a full plate for my henchmen, asked him to grab it - and he grabed an old garment (AC0)!
- B2 should play in the mystara or grayhawk campaign. nevertheless i find OC books from FR everywhere - kills a portion of the atmosphere.
All in all - great work with microscopic flaws

Wow!! This brings back so many good memories when my budies and I first started playing D&D back in the 1980's. Great job of re-creating a classic adventure!!

This is a very high quality adaptation of the classic module. The author spent a tremendous ammount of time crafting this module, adding in a ton of conversations, original scripts, and fine details that made this a great adventure. I played the module solo with a third level fighter, rising to seventh level by the end.

This mod got me hooked on MP NWN. It's a sentimental vote, but one I am free to give. :)

This is one of the first PnP games I ever played. If fact, it is the first MP game that I played for NWN. Imagine my excitement when I clicked on mutiplayer only to find one of my all time fovorites PnP games right there in front of me (this was two years ago).
Your module is what kept me involved with NWN for the last two years. I cant thank you enough for that.
