Description
This adventure is a translation of my favourite pen and paper module written by Chris Hind for Dungeon magazine, July/August 1993. This is a module for a party of 1st level characters, who are townsfolk of the quiet agricultural village Rillford. The village miller has vanished, taking with him the money desperately needed to buy the grain to see the village through the coming year. The search will take the adventurers past the Dark Forest, rumoured to be haunted by faerie folk, called the Liosalfar. The townsfolk are too busy salvaging what wheat they can, and all fear the spirits of the Dark Forest. It is time for you to prove that you are cut from the cloth of heroes ... Credits: Simple Balance System by Johan Generic NPC Script by Eugene Scully. Willing accomplice: PlayMate. Thanks to all who have given feedback, especially Stefan for early feedback.
I don't know if anyone is still playing this, but if there is, hopefully someone can tell me where I'm going wrong. The grain merchant has told me that Werthan bought the grain off him, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere else to go. Is this a bug or am I just being monumentally stupid?
The teleport to the forest does work but the one to the realm does not.

Its simple, fun, and short.

That's a great little mod! And a change of pace too... a fairy tale! Short, but very well done and quite atmospheric, with some cleverly placed descriptions to help set the mood and also advance the story.
Chris Hind did a great job writing this and a sequel is a nice idea... specially if it can be made into another little gem such as this module.

A charming little story, but I suspect I somehow missed a key point as I never encountered the "false Werthan" mentioned by another player. Still, I finished successfully.
I'm quite flattered that my adventure lives on as a computer RPG mod. I also like the fact that at least two people (the developer of the mod, and a reviewer) actually called my adventure a "favorite." :) To think I never submitted my almost-finished sequel, "Dance of the Dockalfar" or the finale to the trilogy. If anyone thinks it worth pursuing, I might pitch the adventure to Paizo for inclusion in the most recent incarnation of Dungeon magazine. I'd appeciate encouragement sent to [email protected]. Thanks.

Nice mod to spend an hour or so playing.

***OK - it is updated.***
Erinnern - the area that the starting point should be placed is called 'Waiting Room'. Ta.

Oh good grief!!!! I don't believe I managed to do this again!!!
I am the undisputed king of putting the start position in the wrong place after playtesting!
Terribly sorry. Will update it immediately. For those who have this version - open up the mod in the Toolset and put the starting point on the only floor space in the 'Waiting Area'. This is where it should go.
Very sorry, ...

This has to be a big bug--the starting point for the game was in the hall with the guy I think I was supposed to play the game to find! I have both SoU and HotU installed.

***** UPDATED TO VERSION 1.4 ******
Version 1.4 has fully fixed what was broken by the HotU change in DelayCommand processing.
Also fixed are a handful of smaller bugs brought to my attention by kind players, the most important of these being the fixing of the premature ending to the Liosalfar Queen conversation.
Cheers, and happy playing!

**** YEAY! FIXED!!!! ****
Thanks to PlayMate, the DelayCommand problems have been fixed while still retaining 1.32 compatibility and not requiring HotU.
Also, the problems people have encountered when Werthan's master dies and with the strangely disappearing area transition should be fixed, so let me know if you encounter any problems.
Happy playing all!

****** IF YOU HAVE V1.61 THE MODULE IS BROKEN AND UNPLAYABLE *****
Yes, unfortunately, the changes made to the processing of DelayCommand in patch 1.61 has broken this module, and it is no longer playable.
The changes to the script are easily made, but I now have HotU, and making these changes would flag the module as requiring HotU. I am currently trying to find a way to work around this. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Ahh! This happened to me once as well, and has utterly baffled me. There is absolutely no scripting in the module that could possibly cause the area transition to disappear - but very occasionally (only once in the many times I have run through the module) this area transition just vanishes ...
At least there is an easy way around the transition, just go south to the glade and then east, rather than straight south.
If any one has heard of something similar happening, or knows what could cause such a bizarre bug, let me know.

A really nice faery tale. We were four to play, and it took us 3 hours to finish it. It was really good, but there was a bug at the end : we weren't able to go from the dark forest-north to the dark forest-east. The area transition had disapeared, but it was possible to go through the glade and then to go to the dark forest-east.

Glad you enjoyed it.
It seems your buggy trouble was due to the character leading Werthan dying. I hadn't thought of this possibility ... I will have to think of some code to put on PlayerDeath to overcome this ....
Cheers!

Well a pretty little faery tale :D
I play it with three camrades, me as a Druid. It takes us about 2 hours to complete it.
All is good and funny, except the end which bugs.
************** SPOILERS ***********
When we come back to Rillford with Werthan, the dialog of the mayor says good but ends if I click "continue". And the dialog of Werthan's wife is the same than before we left the village. Perhaps is it due to the fact that the character whom Werthan followed died by the Liosalfars soldiers ? It seems that he made an error and attacked one of them while the false Werthan took his real aspect. But we are not sure of what happens at that moment.
Continue the good job ;) perhaps a sequel ?

OK, I have to make a sincere apology here.
Chris Hind is the author of the PnP Legacy of the Liosalfar, not Marco Aidala, who did the (very nice) artwork for the article. I was misled by the layout of the page, but looking at it now, I'm not sure how ....
All the documentation included has been changed. Sincere apologies to Chris Hind, and Marco Aidala.

And the sad thing is, I actually own that Dungeon and remember the adventure. I have no life :D

Sorry for the false start folks.
Don't know what happened to the description I included when I uploaded the module, but no matter, I've updated it and stuck it back it. I also fixed two plot variables that were a bit skewiff (Cheers Stefan ;-) )
Everything should now be working properly. Please enjoy.
