The Devil in the Stone is a module that is set in the actual historical settings of the Medieval Europe, and not in the D& D universe. Because of the Medieval Europe setting the module is destined for one player game only, the player having the choice of one of the three premade characters. One can choose from the following: a knight - Jaxa, a bard - Korff, or a student - Hlava. We advise to advance your characters only in the professions of the barbarian, the warrior, or the rouge. The story is set, though, in actual historical settings, therefore the religious and ethnic minorities inhabiting medieval Europe, which the main character encounters during gameplay, are portrayed according to the stereotype of those times. Each of them spoke in their own dialect, which the authors have emphasized in order to show the uniqueness of each of the groups. The authors did not intend to offend anybody's religious or ethnic feelings, though if they might, they wish to apologize in advance.

I remember playing Polish version, but it is nowhere to be find on the vault:(
Do you know that this module was based on a story written by a professional writer about francois villoin(historical French poet - I do not know if I spelled it well) investigating a cathedral being built for devil?
Both the story and module was very atmospheric. _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

This is a very irritatingly written mod. The author's comments are "We advise to advance your characters only in the professions of the barbarian, the warrior, or the rouge." If you level up in any other class, an event script dumps you to the end of the mod. I'd say that calls for stronger language than "we recommend." Also, in the "OnClientEnter" script there is some other annoyance that dumps you to the end of the mod. It'd be nice if the author had said what exactly the condition(s) is/are, so as to be able to avoid it/them.
Seemd promising, but not worht the effort with all that annoyance-factor.
Very atmospheric and even though my knowledge of this particular time in history is limited, it felt right.
Had similar problems as below. Used the headless knight to take out more letahl undead, wisdom drainers and Marc? Used fire arrows (26) for mummy, while use advantage of uphill and terrain to kill the rest and a little bit of save and reload inparticular the bears. Managed to find most clues but Templar ruins got to me. With so many books. Prob should have written down books I had collected and then read them all. Have an idea about seventy so going to give it a shot, enjoyable and very different.
Cheers

The historic setting is very nice. There is one glaring inconsistency. The Roman Inquisition did not investiate civil matters like murder. Protestant Europe, after the reformation did infact do that and thousands of poor midwives found themselves burned as witches by Protestant church authorities. During the time period the MOD is set in the Roman Inquisition would have taken exception to some of the books but the murders would have been investigated and punished by secular authorities.

what do you do with the thrones and stone table? I assumed it had something to do with seventy the word, but that option is not available.
spoiler above

Great concept; score would have been 9 or 10 but for some minor flaws, largely mentioned elsewhere, like mixed English and Polish item descriptions. Also, the specificity of the final trigger was a problem for me.

A fascinating module with an exceptionally immersive mood.

A very, very cool module. The medieval setting was a great idea and extremely well done. Having a semi-familiar background while playing really added to the immersion, especially when references to historical events appeared. Only problems were untranslated item descriptions... Good think I happen to speak Polish!
I'd love to see more modules in a realistic medieval setting like this, especially by this author. Great job!

Excellent! Fantastic medieval setting. Needs to be updated though and it looks like the creator doesn't visit here anymore.

Cool game sor far. You may want to set the module year to 1450 so the journal entries jibe with the story

Well done. Enjoyed it a lot. Refreshing change of setting. Makes me remember the classic RPG game "Darklands". The same dark & moody atmosfere.
******critic --- spoilers******
There is some minor quality checkup pending, as you have town houses without doors, book shelves and book piles with Forgotten Realms treasure (at templars labyrinth.)
Plot: Where is the town´s mayor (burgomeister) or the mayor´s scribe murder scene?.
Dialog: is ok, but could be better just flagging variables when you already talked, started or finished a subquest for a NPC.
The ending: is way to fast and abrupt, could you make the hero return and talk to the inquisitor and free the scholar, before the ending movie? Resolving the main quest and saving the imprisioned friend from the abusive inquisitor is the purpose of the adventure.

Keep on rocking... Medieval Tales was fun!

Excellent job conveying the real medieval world. The translation was lacking in some places, but only one important place (one object in the final scene), and the game was enjoyable despite that.
One critical problem: bad/no ending (?)
Play it anyway!
SPOILERS FOLLOW
I discover the stonemason's diary. Inquisitor doesn't react. So I go to the cathedral and kill the cultists. Inquisitor doesn't react. So I start trying to destroy the cathdral, as prompted by the journal. Either
(1) I get in a fight with the devil, and on the killing blow the game ends (!?), or
(2) I ignore the devil, destroy the altar and all the statues. Hmm, Inquisitor still doesn't react. Nothing else I can destroy at the cathedral, and nothing I do forwards either releasing Archibald or the "Devil of Roncesvalles" note, which are the only other things left in the journal.

I have enjoyed the mod so far. However,
*Spoiler?*
I am at the templar ruins, and cannot push the button on the pole, nor open the trapdoor. I click on either of the items, and my character walks over to it, but nothing happens. I am running HotU. Everything else has worked out fine.

Hey, I can't play this mod, the premade characters don't show up
Posted by Tyler ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-23 05:40:00
Hey one problem when I start to try to play it the Bioware credits come up so I skip them and the game is gone. What does that mean and how do I fix it?

I loved the story. It was somewhat challenging not to use any magic, but I really liked the way you created the story. My only complaint is that the translation from Polish to English was not complete.

Well, I just want to say that this module is inspired by one of the Sapkowski's (the best polish fantasy author) novels - "Narrenturm part 1" and made by a firm not a one/several players :)
I've played polish version and I really liked it.
I hope you will also anjoy this mod :))
ps. for those who know: Samson Miodek vel Honey ;) rulez!!
