Character is (usually) a wiseass, but all alignments get options.
Description
The Penultima University of Thaumatological Science (or PUTS) is one of the finest schools in the land, provided you define 'finest' with a very wide margin of error. But it has one notable feature... a magical library which only senior students and aides are allowed to plumb the depths of, as freshman are unlikely to return. Guess who gets to play fetch-a-book? ... This module is a classic errand-running adventure, loaded with conversation, combat, and neat locales. Side quests and secrets abound. Suitable for solo play or cooperative multiplayer. (Updated to v1.4)

All I can say is WOW! I can't believe I'd never played this series before!
It's very funny (sometimes down right hilarious), but still manages to tell a great story with engaging characters.
I agree with others that posted that the combat was too freakin' hard at times, but I was having such a good time with this, that I didn't even mind really.
Excellent work, everyone should try this series! _________________________ The less you know, the more you believe.

I played through the hole campaign and it was really good ( the rating is for the whole campaign). Note : I'm really greedy on tens...
I had not given a ten because in the first 5 modules (out of ten). I got really frustrated by too hard combat and by the fact that XP was only gained through fight. I was playing a rogue and it was really hard without a good henchmen to help me maneuver for placing my sneak attacks. Indeed, the balance is really much better in the ''rerolled'' campaign and the fact that you have a henchmen with you helped me much. The second part of the campaign is really better than the first one so keep on playing up to those one and you'll be surprised.
Still, the humor and the storyline is good (or should I say GOOD !!!) so it deserve its 9 rightfully !!! Be prepared for a good laugh and don't take it seriously !!!

I like the university design. I just wish it could be more elaborate. Overall this game is fun.

Bigger and better than 1, with a fresh NWN setting (a university). The main story really starts heating up here, and it looks interesting. I like the humorous modernization (a recurring theme with the series so far) of magic and magic study.
Not great though. The humor is still well short of the level it reaches in the City module (liked a few things, like the invisible girl and the geeks lining up for War of the Stars). The areas all have a rather bland, grid-like layout. Some of the quests are a tad annoying (like running around looking for the five NPC's who will attend the concert). And the xp rewards didn't even allow me to gain a level; I had to go through the Dragon challenge in the city to meet the minimum requirement for part 3.
I notice many people voting high because 'it gets better' or because 'the series is so good.' I can't vote that way. I have to judge the module separately from the rest. While there might be some 9's in future installments, this one is little more than a decent play-through.

Considering the game engine, NWN certainly lends itself to light farce, and this module for the first time made it feel like running round an altar while being chased by enemies, occasionally firing off an arrow. Super stuff, this one, and it really did feel like a very fresh NWN experience.
That said, considering the module is part of a series, the fact there are enemies here that require a +2 weapon to hit, which you, err, can't find in any chest/remains up to this point is a bit of an oversight. Ach well, great fun - even though I had to leave all the tough enemies to wandering mages!

This is even worse than the first one.
Just running around doing menial tasks. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Stefan, your ability to make an excellent, hilarious, and well-planned storyline is top-notch. I've been a fan of your stuff since I first found the fan-fic farse named "Magical Troubleshooting Crossover Fighting Tournament Beta" on the net almost 10 years ago!
I can't wait until I get all the modules downloaded, because I know they're gonna be good!

Apparently I never rated Penultima. Play it. The early parts aren't the greatest, but the series as a whole is a brilliant trip.

Stefan Gagne, hats off. This entire series is terrific. I recommend it to any and all players. The time and effort put into crafting a well thought out series such as this makes this a must play for all gamers. Each installment was better than the next. Thank you.

Not sure what the problem is CWASI, I had no trouble with Andrea's quest. Thanks for the comments on the difficult fights and slow xp, I went into the toolset and noticed the xp is set for 10% in Penultima 1 and 2. I upped it to 50% and that seemed to work much better.

This Sucks! Every fight is a pain and Never worth the piddling experience I get. I can't find a store when I find out there's some gear I need.
And now, I can't get the quest complete for Andrea. What gives?

This was my favorite of the series. Not only was there more variety to the action, but the character also had more opportunity to talk with the various NPCs. Since Stefan Gagne excels at dialog, this is a good thing. I did stumble across the Andrea bug, but after some panic, was able to find a DebugMode command that saved the day.

Definately an improvement over the first one. Interesting locales. Varied tilesets. Better dialogue all around. And better quests. What more could you want?
*spoilers ahead*
Some battles were fairly difficult. I'm playing solo with a monk. But I was able to take out the skeleton chieftan. I have healing as one of my skills, and I needed a few healing kits. I also landed the killing blow on the balor. So I'm level 6 exiting this module. Still, experience is hard to come by at times. It looks like I've completed all sidequest (I read the spoilers after completing it). There was this one chest in the magical engineering section with a difficult trap on it. If I roll a 20 I can evade it for no damage. But the trap still remains on the chest. I don't have the patience to continue reloading to continue to get 20's on my reflex rolls. I guess I'll never know what's in it.
No bugs that I can tell. Everything flowed smoothly. I'm running latest patch of NWN, HOTU expansion. Now to the next one (if I have time- I have some work I need to do...)
