Description
You start out in the fields of northern Sendargus, where trouble seems to be brewing. Creatures once thought only to have existed in legend and mythology have appeared, and are raiding the outlying areas. The King does not believe in the legendary monsters, so he refuses to take action. The people are afraid. And there are rumors of an even more sinister plot afoot. There are also rumors of a missing member of the royal family, though the king's people deny it. Can you find out what is wrong in Sendargus, learn what has happened to the prince, and discover who is behind the sudden appearance of these creatures? This is module 1 of 6 in the 'Shards of Power' (SP) series.

I have not experienced faction issues with the guards as M. did, however my game crashed after loading second area for the first time, but again after clearing override and turning down graphics I managed to go through second area without any problems. _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

Very tedious and boring. What part of this is outstanding is beyond me. Decided to gave this campaign another try as I needed something to go from lvl 4 to 10. Thing thing was not even remotely fun with a character ready to enter SP2. The areas are so big that you just spend most of the time walking around or looking for place. With the paladin we got to the camp. Again the paladin got killed by the first bugbear hero we met (module lvl 1-3 remember) while my character barely managed to handle them. Eventually I found the King palace and was eager to bring the good news. Yet some lousy guards would not let me in. They must have had a bad day a they attacked without warning. Three dead guards later I broke the main door and guess what (lousy faction setting) all the guards inside the castle were hostile they must have had telepathic powers to know what was going outside. The King was not hostile at first so I tried to speak to him but then he too turned hostile. All this would be OK if it was a parody but in a serious module with such a high rating it just shows how relative a module quality and the rating can be.

A few inconsistencies, but a great mod nevertheless. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

SP 2 is better. I believe ftr classes will prob do better but for non-ftr soloists there is a 3rd lvl pal in Knights Hall, not a brill hench but will be a big assist. See comments for additional stuff.

Played this a long time ago. One of the first custom mods ever actually. Anyway replayed and enjoyed it with a 1/1 barb/ftr finished 1/3 barb/ftr.
Combats in some areas are very tough but the plot line to be further developed in SP 2 is VG.
Having probs downloading P 3 but that could be the internet. Anyway as I have mentioned it is a VG mod. SP2 is much better and I can see why the author gave up after SP3, you develop som VG mods but nobody downloads. GO FOR IT
Sorry, I do not maintain these modules so I have not checked in months. I assume you won't read this but what the hey.
It sounds like you missed a lot of stuff in the early part of the module. But even so a level 3-4 with a henchman should definitely be able to get through the later stages (you should finish the module roughly around level 4). Note that I do say in the specs that this module is designed for a small party. Solo play is doable, but not going to be easy, and how easy or hard will depend upon your class and how you do things with it.
The dairy (your previous question) was in the southern part of town. The quest to get into the crypt is given out by talking with the prince in the main castle, and the guy in the Lord Mayor's palace who runs the graveyard.
As for "west" it seems like you found it. You go south out of town and the road then bends west.
As for the cleric not turning undead... well argue with bioware. When I wrote this module I did not know their default henchman AI was so stupid. In a later module I had to spend hours and hours fixing the bard henchman to actually act like a bard instead of an archer, and after that I finally threw up my hands and quit building.
I'm sorry if you found the module too hard but I got consistent complaints in earlier versions (which you can readon their comment pages, e.g. the pre-SOU version) that it was too easy so in this version I beefed up the difficulty a bit. It's hard to know what the tolerances are for each person.
I will say, I played through solo on this module, with and without henchmen, on a cleric, a fighter, a paladin, a rogue, and a wizard, and was able to win all the fights each time. That's not to say I didn't occasionally have to die and reload, but I never faced invincible monsters.
I wonder if you are playing with the HOTU version and if the spawn algorithm has changed since I wrote this module... hmm...

Something that was a quasi perfect module for a Lone Wolf type character is going into my trash can.
No answer to my previous post is already not a good sign.
The whole thing is now so boring. Whatever the story is (oh is there really a story I would like to see more of that) the fights are simply over the top.
Go someplace, fight (not that you have a choice all the monsters seems to see me sneaking around perhaps they all have true seeing or something), use stone of recall (or die), rest come back to continue the fight. Repeat over and over.
There was a good moment when we walked in the fortress (using the password) but after that we got into the first level, had a couple of already tough figths than the Hero bugbear came and there is no way we can take him out. Well if we had a chance to level up (in other words where are the quests if any this is the only one left) or use something a bit better than a club +1 or handaxe +1 perhaps but no. He on the contrary does 15 HP of damage on average taking you down with only two hits. not to mention that with our AC of 15-20 he has got no trouble to hit us.
Sorry the idea is good but not the module itself or just specify that it is for uber fighter type character only.
BTW I survived a bit thanks to the animal empathy skill of my druid I can't imagine how I would have survived with a pure rogue. An other idea would be to have more than one henchman and to ensure that the players can find them easily enough. Not to mention that making it tough for the players is fine but ensure that you make it tough also for the monsters (e.g. if the characters can only use light armor and small melee weapon don't give the monsters heavy armor and greatsword something rare in a world should be rare for everyone not only PCs).

Stuck.
* Spoilers *
1. There does not seems to be a quest related to the crypt or how do we get it.
2. Were is the rogue guild. The journal mention to speak to somebody working at the dairy. What dairy? Where? Looked everywhere in the city.
3. One of the main quest is related to something (Evil wizard/daemons) West of some mountains. The trouble is the only way out of town is South. There is no West exit and nothing to do North once you did explore the crypt and the caves.
Running around looking for clues. BTW just found a henchman (cleric) explored as far as the forest with some undead. We tried to defeat them had to flee came back but still at lvl 3 they seems to be quite hard to take out. Why on Oerth does this cleric does not try to turn them or is he just really bad at turning undead?

The zip works this time. I'm gonna play this right away once more... and look toward 2 & 3. Thanks for taking the time to port your mod over to SoU even if it is a real pain.

I have posted a new zip archive of the module. Let me know if there is still a problem with it. It works OK on my machine but if there is some internal problem on my system that may not mean much...

Data ...
Chapter 2 is done and is in playtest right now. So far it has passed but it is a long and complicated module and testing takes some time. I hope to have it done and posted in a week or two.
No ETA right now on Chapter 3... it's even more complex and there are potential waypoint issues... I have to find every case and add a modified script set because the SOU generic scripts hose waypoint walking as I use it in my modules... (Which incidentally is why I have waited so long to do SOU versions... I kept hoping BW would fix it but they never have).

Bah... not sure what happened but I will upload again and see if I can get it to work this time. Sorry about that.

Author needs to make a new archive that works and repost it here. Although I have found a workaround. If you have WinRAR or WinAce, you can repair the archive and that appears to work for me.

I tried to download as well and was told that it was an invalid archive.

I also tried to download. Compressed foulder is empty when unpacked.

I've tried to download 3 times, but when I try to open I get the message that it is an invalid archive.

Cool! A new SoU version :)
Though i suspect i will wait until chapters two and three
come out as SoU versions before playing.
Any idea how long that will take?
