Tired of toiling on your Uncle's pig farm, you've decided to leave the drudgery of Port Llast, and hit the road, seeking fame and fortune as an Adventurer... Starting from your humble beginnings, you'll quickly discover that an Adventurer's life isn't always rosy, and that even the best of intentions can have dire consequences. Along the way, you'll encounter a wide range of interesting characters (including a legendary hero), hear many compelling stories, be insulted by drunk goblins, and ultimately be tempted by the allure of Godhood. What choice will you make? (updated to version 1.61b)
Fun adventure. Nifty scripting. Outstanding use of journal. No hak paks needed. Good and Evil endings. Tight layouts. Detailed descriptions. Good storytelling. The module as a whole improves so drastically that by the end of it, I was in hog heaven.
Combat can be tough, walkthrough documentation file unreadable (for me). The beginning was so hackneyed, that I thought I had gotten a pig in a poke.

Played for 30 minutes.
- got +3 weapon on my first level
- got bored by senseless fights
- got my game crashed several times(tried cleaning override, lowering settings)
- decided it isn't worth it
- looked at the rest of the module in the toolset _________________________ Thanks Rolo:)

Good story, but difficult combat.

This started well, but..... I'm sorry.
There are a LOT of mods where (if don't like constantly respawning or reloading) you just turn on God-mode, point your character at the baddies, press the attack button and go away for a cup of tea.
This is one of those mods. You haven't a hope of defeating the villains, so don't even try.

Story-wise, this is a perfect 10, but there is some bad or outdated scripting, and I did not like the crypt puzzle. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

Worth a 7 (on the non-inflated scale) for the attention to detail in the mod (scripting, conversations, custom descriptions) and the care put into it. An old mod, so don't expect much from the area design, although some good design choices were made regarding the size of the areas and layout. Combat requires gamesmanship (run and gun, run away and rest, repeat) rather than real tactics.
This is more of a storytelling mod rather than a role-playing one, so don't expect to have much in the way of decisions, unless you count decisions to take a couple side quests. You're railroaded all the way to the end, although there is a good/evil choice there that is well done. The evil ending leads to the setting of the sequel ("The Turning").
Thanks to the author for putting thought, effort, and polish into key aspects of the mod.

What a fun little module. I didn't find it hackneyed at all; quite the contrary, it played little games with fantasy clichés quite succesfully, and had a nicely twisted sense of humor. I played as a combat-oriented cleric, and it worked extremely well -- I got to use all my abilities, and the challenge level of the battles stayed quite good most of the time. Great quality control, too.

With more balancing of the combats, I think this could be a very good module. It seems too heavily skewed in favour of fighters, not only in weapons but the nature of the fights. Also, if you do not take the henchman along, there is no apparent other option to even things out and it could well be impossible. Even with the henchman, there is a lot of running away to rest and return, especially once the character enters the finale area.
Story is excellent, and how the character is plausibly and reasonably allowed to breeze past the very first combat is also well done. It lets a 1st-level character of any sort get right to the action.
Miscellany: There is a floating Chair near the first Doom Knight.

Overall excellent. It's amazing what authors can do without dozens of mb of haks. Great plot, role play, storyline. Some combats were very tough though but running and shooting does the trick. Did both endings just to check them out. Can not believe this is ranked so lowly.
I do not like the way the first quest was implemented, the item given to complete the quest requires a lvl 18/19 character if ILR is enforced. They are various alternatives to make the quest doable by a lvl 1, one is to reduce the power of the monsters, another one is that the NPC can cast various spells on the PC (stoneskin for example) or give similar potions.
Overall, I found combats to be rather unbalanced.
I completed the first quest with a lvl 7 character (did not use the special item). Continued the module with a lvl 3 (barbarian) but was smashed by a couple of ogres.
I know that there is an issue with older modules being played with the latest patch. The problem is related to drawing all monsters of a given map to attack the PC all at once.

This module had nice twists of plot and also managed to keep my overlevel character interested - not by the fights, which wasn't my goal either, but by the storyline and even some of the gear rewards. Some minor punctuatory typos here and there, but no show-stoppers.

An above average module. Some overly contrived plot ideas here, but still a fun module. Not quite the "Forgotten Realms" genre. _________________________ Old School

An underrated little gem that would deserve a place higher up in the top rated list.
Very good story, great opening that really motivates the player and some very funny twists (including one of the funnier hench... uh... beings :)
Interesting and well balanced fights and good puzzles. Great ending. _________________________ With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince...

Just posted a very minor update, to version 1.61b (see Read Me file for details).
Thanks for all your comments and votes! I'm very pleased to see that the Pig Farmer remains a popular module nearly a year after its release.
My sequel, "The Turning", is now available on the Vault. The Turning continues the story of the Pig Farmer, though from a new character's perspective. It is a different module, darker and far more sprawling, with a custom tileset, an original song, and much more. Hope you like it!

Loved the humor and the storyline immensely. Good balance of money/loot vs. prices for essential equipment (like potions).
A few quest items didn't get removed from my inventory, but that's a minor bit, compared to the whole of this fun mod.

*** ANNOUNCEMENT ***
After months of development, I expect to release the Beta version of the sequel to The Pig Farmer in the next week.
If you are interested in playtesting the new module (which is a significant evolution above the P.F. in complexity), please watch this page over the next few days for details.

I really enjoyed this module. The story was well thought out and the dialogs well written. I played through with a wizard and then went through a second time with a fighter. I found the module much easier the second time, as I expected, thanks to the special items and the types of encounters.
